‘Skeleton Crew’ Reportedly Recruits ‘Thunderbolts’ Director Jake Schreier

Not quite a week after the news that David Lowery was rumored to have joined Skeleton Crew, which dropped shortly after the reveal that The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) also directed an episode, One Take News have yet another name to add to the Skeleton Crew directing team: Jake Schreier, director of the upcoming Marvel Studios Thunderbolts movie, is the latest reportedly joining the team.

Lucasfilm has declined to comment on all of these stories, but The Daniels confirmed that they directed an episode, which lends credibility to the other names. Certainly, there is a lot of Marvel collaboration going on already, with Jon Watts as showrunner and executive producer, Christopher Ford (who co-wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming) as the main writer, and Jon Favreau as executive producer.

In addition to the anticipated release of Thunderbolts, Schreier also directed six episodes of the new Netflix series Beef, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. Prior to Beef, Schreier directed on numerous TV shows, including Shameless, Dave, and Minx. He is also well-known for directing music videos, which is a bit of a departure from some of the other directing talent we’ve seen brought in. Cinematically, he’s most known for Paper Towns, the film adaptation of John Green’s novel, starring Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff, as well as Robot & Frank, written by Christopher Ford and starring Frank Langella. It will be interesting to see how Schreier applies his diverse background to the Star Wars universe.

Here is the official synopsis for Skeleton Crew:

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, set in the New Republic era, is about a group of kids lost in the Star Wars galaxy trying to find their way home.

Skeleton Crew has yet to confirm a release date, but Disney asserted late last year that it would be coming out in 2023. Production wrapped in January in Los Angeles, so we could be getting some news during Star Wars Celebration and possibly even some footage for attendees.
