Jon Favreau Praises Consistency Across All ‘Star Wars’ TV Series and Upcoming Movies

With so many different creative minds involved in making so many loosely connected TV shows (and now movies), one of Lucasfilm’s biggest responsibilities has become to make all of it as if it belongs in the same galaxy. The topic was brought up by Jon Favreau during a conversation with Screen Rant, when he praised Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni’s abilities to oversee the entire pipeline of shows and films, and to make sure they are consistent with each other.

Favreau said:

“We’re having a great time. And now, I think you’re getting a taste here of how much planning has gone into Star Wars. I could really speak to the time period that we’re working on, but if you look at what Kathy Kennedy has been doing, Dave Filoni has been very involved with all of it.

You see The Acolyte and you see Andor, and you see other films that are going to be coming. All of these things have to be coordinated, because you want to make sure that there’s a consistency across all of them.

As far as within our time period, we have to time out how they go down. Not that you would need to watch each one, but you will have a better experience if you do. We’re making sure that for the people who are watching all of them, it’s additive, and it helps add greater insight to what’s happening in the Star Wars galaxy.”

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau promoting The Mandalorian

The quote is especially relevant this week, as just a few days ago we got confirmation that the upcoming Ahsoka series will be featuring Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, marking the first time an actor crosses over between shows created by different people (of course, O’Reilly had played the character before in Rogue One, but Andor was the first time we really spent time with her). It is also the first time we see an actor playing a character before and after the original trilogy’s incarnation.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are currently overseeing an overarching storyline that spans several series on Disney Plus and will culminate in a feature film directed by Filoni. The Mandalorian season 3 will end its eight-episode run next Wednesday, and Ahsoka will follow this August. A fourth season of The Mandalorian could go into production this year, and a tentative second season of Ahsoka is waiting for studio approval. Meanwhile, Skeleton Crew is set to arrive later this year, and the first season of The Acolyte and the second season of Andor will both be released on Disney Plus in 2024.
