Diego Luna Scores “Best Performance” Nomination for ‘Andor’ at Golden Globes

The Golden Globes have announced their nominations for next year’s ceremony, and Andor‘s Diego Luna has received a history-making honor. Nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Drama) thanks to his work in Andor, Luna is now only the second Star Wars actor to ever be nominated in the awards. Alec Guinness’ supporting role in A New Hope was the only other performance that garnered attention from the Golden Globes, meaning Luna is the first to be nominated as a lead.

Luna is up against some of television’s heaviest hitters, including Jeff Bridges (The Old Man), Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), and Adam Scott (Severance). The full list of nominations can be found here.

The Golden Globes are an annual award show organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The 2023 ceremony will be held on January 10, and can be watched on NBC and Peacock. This will be the 80th incarnation of the Golden Globes.

The HFPA is not the only major awards body to recognize Luna and Andor this awards season. The Critics Choice Awards have already nominated Luna for Best Actor and the show with a Best Drama Series nod. Other candidates to recognize various sectors of Andor include the Writers Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild, and potentially, the Directors Guild of America. Those nominations will come out the day after the Golden Globes, on January 11.

Andor is currently shooting its second season in the UK and is aiming for a summer or early fall release in 2024.
