‘Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition’ Coming to PlayStation VR2

A new iteration of the hit Star Wars VR game Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge has just been announced for PlayStation VR2, exclusive to PS5.

Originally limited to Oculus headsets, Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge was first released in November 2020. The virtual reality game takes players to Batuu, the main scenery of Disney Parks’ Galaxy’s Edge. The official synopsis reads as follows:

You’ll begin your story as a droid repair technician who gets swept up into a grand adventure when you crash land on the planet Batuu following an attack by the Guavian Death Gang. This kicks off a series of extraordinary events, proving that anyone in the galaxy can become a hero.

As you live out your own unforgettable Star Wars adventure, you will be joined by fan-favorite characters like R2-D2, C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), Jedi Master Yoda (Frank Oz), and Hondo Ohnaka (Jim Cummings). You’ll also come face-to-face with new characters like the boisterous barkeep Seezelslak (Bobby Moynihan), treasure hunter Lens Kamo (Karla Crome), and Guavian Death Gang leader Tara Rashin (Debra Wilson).

Indeed, Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge was quite a high-profile release that many fans without an Oculus headset wanted to try. With PS VR2 getting lots of love recently and being tied to Sony’s PlayStation 5 console, it’s likely that many Star Wars gamers will finally jump into this remastered experience as soon as it’s available.

As you can tell, Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge looks better than ever thanks to PS5’s raw graphical power (VR games are more demanding than regular ones), but other tech advancements coming from PS VR2 and the console’s 3D audio engine aim to make the experience even richer and more immersive. Here are the specific details that were shared on the PlayStation Blog:

Utilizing all tech that the PS VR2 has to offer, the game pushes what’s possible with VR to immerse you within the world of Star Wars like never before. The high-fidelity visual experience will include headset-based controller tracking and eye tracking ensuring that your movements and direction you look are reflected as you play.

The audio and haptics also play a major role in the experience, where you’ll be able to hear the soundscape surround you with rich 3D audio and feel even the smallest detail with the haptics built into the PS VR2 Sense controller and headset. Combining all the sensory features that the PS VR2 has to offer, the experience will make you feel as though you are living within the Star Wars galaxy.

The end of the trailer points to a 2023 release, telling players the game is still in development. That being said, the PS Blog article promises more news and details soon, so it seems PS VR2 owners won’t have to wait too long to journey to Batuu from the comfort of their homes.
