I’m just going to go ahead and say that I really hope this movie is surprisingly good. I don’t expect it to be, but it sure would be awesome if it was. Ultimately it really does hinge on Ehrenreich’s performance. We know the look, feel and effects will be good. We know the story doesn’t have to mess with canon that much, given it’s likely to not touch much on the Force, and it will probably be fun. But damn, Ehrenreich’s gotta nail it.

Hopefully you are right!! We need to give Ehrenreich a chance and not to ask the impossible. I’m agree visually might be amazing. Just wondering what are these speeders that has the shape of a book. Found them weird ! but if they fit a new world, new shapes are welcomed.

Agreed. In order to take these new films in for what they are, I think it’s equally important to not just avoid spoilers, but avoid early reviews, speculation, rumors and extreme personal opinions. It’s all part of being able to see it fresh, from your own point of view. Everyone’s got their own, and that’s the magic of living. 🙂

I can’t help wondering where Harloff get’s so many of his strong and critical views from, given he hasn’t seen a single frame of Solo! I have no idea what to expect from this movie as I’ve nothing to go on yet! Let’s hang fire before ripping into it out of frustration!

No trailer or anything when this movie comes out in 5 months is a little alarming.

Yeah it is a bit alarming! I’m putting trust in Kath Kennedy to have a marketing plan thoufh, even if she is cutting it fine!! 🙂

Its hard for me to trust the woman who hired the man who thought it was a good idea to give Star Trek a Beastie Boys soundtrack.

I’ve lost all faith in KK just for the fact that she let JJ and Rian Johnson essentially write two standalone movies in Episode 7 & 8 with no consistent narrative.

At this point, I’m waiting for them to show Episode 4 footage of Han for the Trailer and the movie is going to sold on Harrison Ford, despite not being in the new movie!

I love this podcast and have been listening to them since the early days of Episode 7. I do feel they never really addressed the backlash by a part of the fanbase towards TLJ. They mentioned it in passing, but they really didn’t do a segment and discuss it since the movie came out. What’s ironic is many of them will whole criticize the Prequels without any reservations, but for some reason TLJ seems untouchable?

Because it’s not cool yet. Whenever I try to point out some positive aspects of the PT and that I watch them just as frequently as any other SW movie during my yearly SW marathon people always lose their sh*t . If I say something bad about TLJ which I feel similar about like I feel about the prequels they lose their sh*t too. I stopped watching content created by Collider for that reason. If you want to be critical of movies the sure go ahead but try to treat every SW movie equally.

I noticed that among the internet. As Pro-TLJ fans get mad at anyone saying the movie is crap, yet in the same sentence, they will say the PT is crap. Ironic that they are making the same argument towards the PT that they are getting mad at when someone talks about TLJ. If you want to argue with anyone who defends TLJ, just tell them it’s as bad or worse then the PT, and watch how they belittle the PT like THOSE are the worst movies ever, despite getting mad at fans for saying TLJ is the worst movie ever. There is too much irony!

It seems those people are here mostly, I think the veil has been lifted and many now see defending the Last Jedi makes them look dumb, so they have doubled down and direct insult the person rather the flaws pointed out

It’s funny that those same fans who defend TLJ all of the sudden have no problem with Snoke dying or Random Rey now. I would love if JJ shoehorns Snoke or Rey Skywalker back in Episode 9 and see them freak out.

The prequels are poorly-made movies in basically every aspect. TLJ has excellent acting, good dialogue, an excellent blend of CGI and practical effects, great and interesting shooting style and framing that serves the story, and interesting characters with defined personalities, which is much more than you can say about the prequels. Keep in mind I didn’t mention anything related to the story itself because that’s probably what everyone already hates and it’s pointless to mention. And if you think they ruined Luke, look at how the prequels treat Darth Vader, Yoda and the Emperor. And neither the prequels or TLJ are the worst movie ever, you have to be extremely naive about cinema to think so, but as movies the prequels are just bad even from a technical level which already makes them worse than any of the Disney era movies.

TLJ suffers from the same problems that the PT does: bad pacing, bad attempts at humor, convoluted storyline, etc. The only aspect I will agree with on is the acting in TLJ is better then the PT as Hamill and the cast have been good in the ST so far.

Thumbs up, I have a newfound respect for the Prequals and will gladly watch Revenge of the Sith over Last Jedi. There is no compairing the story structure and pacing between the two, and the awful humor(your mama jokes)

Gave up on collider when the one guy freaked out about fans having theories about Rey’s lineage. “Who told you to think that?”
Um, you guys did….when all your Star Wars videos are speculation fodder.

Still calling on this being pushed back to Dec, esp after reports came out that Last Jedi has failed to crack the Asian market like they hoped.

TFA’s narrative was built on 2 hours of mystery boxes along with literally a cliffhanger ending, and now it’s our fault for trying to guess those answers for the past 2 years? It’s unbelievable that fans like us are scolded for walking into the movie wanting answers. Don’t build a narrative that tricks the audience and then pulls the rug out from them and we will stop complaining.

You are exactly right as this weekly postcast was built on debating those theories on Snoke and Rey’s lineage.

If the Pro-TLJ just like the movie and stopped scolding the fans who didn’t like it, I’d be cool with that because it’s all opinion. But there has been a weird defense of TLJ I have never seen with a movie Sequel before.

Im looking forward to Colliders first impressions video of Solo, the one where they cant talk about the film because of the press blackout, So we will see pictures of the staff at the red carpet event with the limo and all, Then we can be sure there is no bias in there review

They will always go easy on Disney and make excuses for bad writing so long as they get to go to preimeres, get free schwag, and have cushy movie review jobs. They’ll never trash a Disney SW movie that deserves it. Mark Ellis once insisted he HAD to see the green get used in this film months ago; since then has totally walked that back. Follow the money

They fooled me twice already !
TFA was the first time, then RO was great so i was going for the TLJ just for the SW brand and it was a big disappointment.
So i would really like to see a good SW movie in SOLO, but a SW brand for a movie is no longer a must see for me.

I will watch spoiler discussions after the movie is out, try to download ANY cam-version that will be out there, watch it and then come to one of the 3 conclusions:

    1) Movie is totally wrong and full of nonsense and PC/SJW agendas and stupid humor like TLJ -> i will not go to the cinema (not adding to the BOX office numbers)

    2) Story wont be that good and there wil be some flaws but it will be at least a good enjoyable SW movie without PC/SJW crap -> I will go to my local cinema once, maybe then a IMAX screening for a 2nd view.

    3) The movie is unlike TLJ, it has to be at least so good as RO, it will be something that i accept story-wise / lore-wise as a replacement of the Solo Trilogy books -> I will buy a permanent ticket for 25Eur and go and see it at least 10 times in cinema, then buy the necessary supplemental books like Crossections and Visual Dictionary and keep spending money on other related products (3.75″ Super Articulated figures, Lego …)

So I disagree with you that the SOLO movie will be the turning point. For a lot of people TLJ was the turning point already. The damage to the franchise is already done.
