Updated with the Results! Poll: How Would You Rate Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

I’ve seen many people being vocal about this movie in our comments and with the rating drama going on, I decided that we should do our own poll on Twitter. Please vote and share for the most accurate result. The poll will be open just for 24 hours.

I’m glad you posted this poll. It shows that all the loudmouth negativity is clearly in the minority and that people overwhelmingly love The Last Jedi.

True, if the poll was open to everyone (not just fans) it would receive an even higher vote total.

The Last Jedi is fucking awesome to me.

I hope it’s awesome for you. If not, I respect your opinion. Not everyone will like it. If you respect mine, we’re all good, we just disagree.

    SHIT POSTERS:

If it’s not awesome for you – and you keep coming on here spewing your shit – NO ONE owes you any courtesy whatsoever for coming onto this site and going on and on about it.

I don’t care about the feelings and opinions of those with no respect. If I feel like responding to one of them for some personal catharsis, and I see a particularly stupid new form of recency bias or confirmation bias coming from someone’s filthy sewer, I may gleefully slaughter their words. And then I will laugh AT them, and walk away while they squirm and cry. And I’ll respond again – if I feel like it. Or not.

    We owe trolls NOTHING.

Freedom of speech works both ways.

May The Force of Others Be With Us.

I like what they did with Luke and Mark Hamill – whatever he thought – acted really well and brought back some classic magic too.

The lightsaber toss is unforgivable however. Discarding it would be ok. But for me that single moment was wrong.

Anyway I am 8-10 range. 6 is also a reasonable score. I think the problem with RT is that there are loads of zero score protests.

I think an important part of what he was able to do for the resistance was to further his legend and help light that spark that will motivate the Galaxy to care. The kids at the end were already telling the story of Luke facing down Kylo…its not nearly so awe inspiring for Luke to go to Crait and get gunned down by some walkers. Much more inspirational to the galaxy to survive everything the first order had to give, face off with Kylo Ren, make Kylo look foolish, and then vanish. And Luke got to be pretty bad ass doing it.

Absolutely. In addition to becoming a legend and symbol, he also does this without poisoning his own soul by striking down Kylo. Nor does he allow Kylo to strike him down and thereby further poison Kylo’s soul. It is an ultimate act of compassion and selflessness. Saving his frienfs and not further contributing to turmoil. The only issue now is that his act will bring more people and forces to the resistance. He said himself that the war is just beginning. However, if light and dark must always strive for balance then dark can never be entirely destroyed. It would seem there can be no winner in the war unless Kylo and Rey unite.

    My List:

    1) Return of the Jedi(80/100) 2) Empire Strikes back (90/100) 3) Revenge of the Sith (70/100) 4) A New Hope (85/100) 5) Rogue One (75/100) 6) The Force Awakens (67/100) 7) The Phantom Menace (60/100) and 7) Attack of the Clones ( 50/100)

I haven’t seen The Last Jedi for a second time so I don’t feel like really rating it as usually I watch ever SWs film twice. First time passively and second time actively(with a notepad. Yeah, I’m that guy) and pay attention.

ROTJ is the most flawed of the OT but it is my favorite due to its sense finality and Luke’s arc. Hence, why I am mixed on TLJ with Luke. Overall, Empire to me is the best made Star Wars film and was lightning in a bottle, but NOT my favorite.

Simple. And yeah, I prefer RO over TFA. Namely, for its plot and themes.

    • December 22, 2017 at 3:32 am
      Permalink

I’m there with you. I think overall, ROTJ was the weakest of the OT films, but the final duel between Vader and Luke will always be my favorite Star Wars scene. Also, I thought the Space Battle was the best.

      • December 22, 2017 at 3:37 am
        Permalink

Yeah, I love that battle for many reasons. The lighting and symbolism of Luke and the conflict he is going through. And him temporarily giving into darkness only to reel it back.

He experienced darkness and a horrible truth and ultimately grew up.That is he pulled back the darkness and proved to Vader and Palpatine why he deserved to be a Jedi. And it was that act of selflessness that proved to be the thing that redeemed Vader. As those final moments, they always bring me to tears.

It is kind of why I am mixed on Luke’s portrayal in The last Jedi when i consider ROTJ. Also, on a side note; ROTJ Luke’s costume is my favorite costume he has.

Seriously, I have a cosplay of it as to me it perfectly symbolizes Luke’s growth. Bright cheery colors, darker gray in ESB and full black in ROTJ. And why I dug Luke’s robes as they too symbolized his jadedness.

From the end of The Last Jedi, there really looks to be a love triangle developing:
      Kylo Ren fancies Rey rotten
Rey slams that door shut, both literally and figuratively (the Millennium Falcon’s ramp going up at the end)
Poe and Rey finally engage in conversation, that ‘hello sailer’ moment the way they look at each other

There are no rankings among fandom, we are all are **true** fans of Star Wars. It’s okay to disagree or to like something or to dislike something. If someone said the only thing I like about Star Wars is Jar Jar and the Gungans, yepp still a true fan even if the vast majority doesn’t agree with them.

Hmm, that seems like a very loose definition to me. My wife likes the ending credits because I am almost done watching “that silly movie”. Does that make her a fan? I mean, by that definition I’m a Yankees fan because they have hotdogs at their stadium. Lord help me if unbeknownst to me I’ve been a closet Yankees fan all these years….

Hotdogs are not essentially tied to the Yankees or any baseball team. Liking a hotdog means you’re a fan of hotdogs. For example: say you like Aaron Judge, on some level it makes you a Yankees fan or whatever team he is on. At heart you may be an Dodgers fan or a Twins fan so they may be higher on your list of baseball fandoms, but it still makes you on some level a fan of the team that Judge is on. If you think lightsabers are cool at some level you’re a Star Wars fan. Just not on the level where you feel the need to go on the internet and debate people about it. Ending credits have nothing to do with Star Wars specifically, so no your wife isn’t a fan of Star Wars. If she thinks Darth Vader looks cool, but wants nothing to do with the story, she at some level is a fan. You following?

It really does seem that half of this movie was just a big middle finger to JJ and TFA and undoes almost everything that was set up. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is really subjective.

yes but JJ is going to direct the 9 ! Not RJ right ? So an other twist is possible.
        – maybe Kylo will admit that I lied purposely to trick Rey (Smeagol lied !).
        – maybe he was himself tricked as his sister was hidden from him.

        In addition :
        – TFA still shows a space shuttle.
        – and in the TLJ, when Kylo confronts Rey and forces her to admit the supposed truth, there is no “FLASH-BACK CERTIFICATION” (when there is one with the scenes Luke trying to kill Kylo). And precisely, if Rey’s parents were really nobodies, we would have had a flash-back (Rey’s recollection at last happening) certifying the truth, making it official, indisputable.

Wrong. There is one arc they are devolping since the very begining: Kylo Ren. JJ from the start said his arc would be a dark reflection of Luke. And now to an extent, a bit of Vaders arc too.

          Random theory:
Rey’s parents are the two pilots from the upcoming Lego Sandspeeder set.

The box art has Jakku as it’s location.
The maile pilot has the same helmet Rey wears in TFA, the one with the yellow aurabesh.

So maybe there’s a deleted scene where these pilots crash, have a kid, hit it hard (being drunks as Ben tells Rey or something else happens) and abandon this kid / leave her with Unkar Plutt.

Clearly they do. I used to value ratings a lot more than I do now. I just need to see the trailer to know whether I’ll check a movie out or not. If there is a movie I’m interested in, I’ll read reviews just to gage how it reflects my feelings from the trailer. At the end of the day though, the only opinion the matters is our own.

Obviously there is going to be a showdown between Rey and Kylo at some point in Episode 9. Rey already bested this guy, twice so is there really any sort of dramatic tension to think that she won’t do it a third time? I know the good guys are going to win because this is Star Wars but I think a big fault of The Last Jedi is that they didn’t challenge Rey enough. Her challenges were to try and help other people (Getting Luke back into the fight, Turning Ben Solo back towards the light, lifting rocks to save what is left of the Resistance) Nothing challenged her and her abilities. She is still the powerful yet untrained force user, that now has no teacher and some books. TLJ really felt like a conclusion rather than a middle part of a story.

Eh. She had a connection to Kylo when she got him to murder his master! And even as they are fighting the Patoreon Guards, while a challenge to Rey, Kylo seems to be one struggling and needs Rey to toss him her lightsaber to defend himself. I personally don’t think that Rey as a character has been challenged enough in the first two movies and I have no idea how they would accomplish that in the 3rd. This was movie where she’s supposed to struggle and she really hasn’t. Her main conflicts were her efforts to get others to act, nothing really about herself aside from who her parents are and she didn’t even seem phased when she found out they deserted her. This is Rey’s trilogy and while she has gone on adventures she hasn’t really don’t anything that’s a presented as a real challenge for her.

While I don’t agree that Rey got Kylo to kill Snoke (I think that was all Kylo, and I love it as a part of his arc), I actually do agree that Rey needs to be challenged a bit more, maybe she needs to be pulled towards the Dark Side in IX.

It’s pretty accurate to say somewhere around 8-8.5/10. This is not a perfect movie, but I found it satisfying, especially after seeing it a second time. The truth is we don’t know what direction this is going…for all we know, Luke or Rey wakes up at the end of Episode XI and finds out it’s all been a dream (not saying that’s what I want, just throwing that out there as a possibility).

I think the big problem is the response of those that either like this movie or don’t. It has become like the political climate in the US. Two extremes, putting down the others. If you like the movie, you are a “liberal SJW that is all for Disney’s agenda.” and if you hate the movie, you are an “EU Fanboy that needs to find a new hobby, so take a hike starflake!” What ever happened to going to a movie and WATCHING the movie and letting go. The community needs to realize a couple of things:

    1) It’s a part of our lives, yes, but it should not be our lives! We may not like all or parts of this movie, but are we really going to let this burn us on all of Star Wars? Episode I and II didn’t make us hate the entire series, did it?

    2) It is Lucasfilm’s movie, and movies are subjective. Everyone’s opinion is ok. So while we may not agree with the opinion, we should not blast one another for that opinion.

The best thing to do is debate, but leave the name calling and vitriol at home, and discuss this as fans. With that said, I hope each of you take time out to spend time with your friends and family this holiday season and have a great one! Take care and let’s build the community up instead of tearing each other down.

My version was a little different:

At the end, we see Ewoks and people celebrating…a young Han and Leia (played by Aiden Edenreich -sp- and Daisy Ridley) come up to a young Luke Skywalker (also new actor) and ask if everything is ok. He says he’s fine…just had a daydream and he sees Force ghosts of Anakin (Hayden Christensen), Yoda, and Obi Wan (Ewan McGregor). Pose for end pictures with Lando (Donald Glover) clapping. QUE MUSIC AND CREDITS.

Abrams sets up Star Wars to be just like Star Trek and resets it. If it happens, you heard it here first!!!!!

Luke Skywalker: “Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong. The Rebellion is reborn today. The war is just beginning. And I will not be the last Jedi.”

I think this quote from the end of the movie explains exactly how Disney/Lucasfilm/KK/RJ do not understand Star Wars.

-Luke should know better. One of the first things Yoda teaches Luke on Dagobah is that “war does not make one great”, but here is Luke now pretty much fully endorsing war with almost a prideful tone. So different from where we last saw him at the end of ROTJ when he sacrifices himself to save his father.

-This also pretty much flat out tells the audience, hey this an undercover reboot, and everything will cycle again. I’m not saying this saga had to end with IX (and never expected it to with Disney), but can we have a different story than empire vs fledgling rebellion???

-Can we officially re-title this movie to “Not The Last Jedi” ? Haha, I kid.

-While I’m at it, just curious: Wasn’t the creation of the Resistance sort of the rebirth of the Rebellion? Why just that moment did the Rebellion become alive? I guess this is nitpicking, but I suppose someone will reply to this with a totally legitimate rationale (sarcasm)

    • December 23, 2017 at 3:54 am
      Permalink

Oh sure it’s nothing like the Luke that decided to leave Tatooine to train with Obi Wan so he can help win the war against the empire. That obviously wasn’t the bigger picture of the OT at all. (That came off a bit sarcastic, I suppose your prediction was correct).

He is in a different place, but that doesn’t mean he will be perfect. Luke was a character who was always learning new lessons in life, and these lessons were something fans can take with them as well. We learned that you don’t have to come from anywhere special to BE someone special, we learned the importance of friendship, the importance of family, and now the importance of overcoming your failures, and to learn from these failures in turn making you a stronger person. It doesn’t matter what age you are, there will always be new lessons to learn in life. This was the point of the character of Luke Skywalker in TLJ, to me at least.

The resistance was just the name they gave themselves, which was basically just a ragtag renegade group of pilots, soldiers, militia, officers, that followed Leia and wanted to help her fight against the First Order in secret because the New Republic was not allowed to fight against the First Order publicly due to some sort of treaty.

Leia also was one of the few leaders who actually took the First Order seriously as a threat while many of the other New Republic senators and leaders either didn’t believe her or just didn’t trust her because she was publicly revealed to be Darth Vader’s daughter.

So, once the First Order actually revealed their cards and blew up the Hosnian Prime sector, which happened to be the capitol of the New Republic. That dealt a huge blow to the New Republic and pretty much wiped out a majority of the New Republic’s military and leadership. So, all that was left was the small Resistance group which already been fighting against the First Order in private.

In TLJ, the First Order has built up enough ships and has amassed a large enough army/navy and supposedly has near limitless resources. Since the New Republic is gone, the first Order is said by Rey to be able to take over the Outer Rim systems within weeks and eventually the major systems.

The Resistance is pretty much the only significant threat, besides Rey and Luke, who can actually fight against the First Order and even then they are severely outmatched. At the end of the film, Luke tells Kylo that he’s wrong and that there is still hope in the galaxy and that the Resistance is reborn as the Rebellion against the First Order since the First Order is assumed to be taking over a lot of the galaxy within months essentially turning into the Empire 2.0.

I’ve seen all of the movies but ANH on their opening night. I saw ANH about a week after it came out. I literally grew up watching the OT movies. I had most of the Kenner toys & read the original EU books & comics. I’m sure that has a lot to do with my negative view of the prequels vs my positive view of the more OT-ish sequels. Anyway, here’s my list:

    ESB – 10.1 (it’s a special movie)

ANH – 10 (the original, a simple story that hints at so much cool stuff. The ultimate example of show don’t tell moviemaking.)

ROTJ – 9.5 (A great movie… and Ewoks. I don’t hate them, Endor was just so much less interesting than the other locations)

TLJ – 9 (This won’t go the way you think. But actually, it sort of will. I wish the plot were cleaner, like ANH. Then it would be a 10.)

TFA – 8.5 (The rebirth of the franchise. Fun, exiting but a bit too derivative to be truly great.)

R1 – 8 (The ultimate fan movie. And it was really very good. Much better that I expected)

ROTS – 4 (This was almost the story everyone was waiting for. Bad, stilted, performances and awkward plot contrivances kill what was nearly Lucas’s return to form. Also, the lazy writing makes Obi-Wan too young in ANH — so annoyingly close to a good movie.)

TPM – 2 (In some ways it’s the better made of the prequels. The action and some of the sets feel like Star Wars. Nothing else does. Jar Jar & little Annie…)

AOTC – 1 (Such an aggressively bad movie. Every Anakin scene is cringeworthy.)

I’d have the same listing, except I’d put Rogue One over TFA and TLJ.

The main thing that knocks R1 down a bit (for me) really isn’t the filmmakers fault exactly. Plot wise, the movie is just filling in blanks. You can pretty much recognize where the story starts and where it has to end. Within those limits the movie was great & really inventive. My daughter loved K2-SO. The stuff on Jeddah looked amazing. All of the FX were the best blend of modern an an homage to the 70’s. Well, everything but CGI Leia and Tarkin. Also, and this in a nitpick, Vader First few lines in ANH don’t quite line up with the end of R1.

You are correct about Vader and only because of one line.

“Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by rebel spies.”

Rogue One makes it seem like the plans were beamed only to the Profundity, which doesn’t line up with that NEW HOPE line, which they had to manually move to the Tantive IV with that disk.

Unless Vader just thought that the Tantive IV was part of the Profundity and just figured he’d lump them all together anyway lol

TLJ is far worse than Attack of the clones. Which makes it the worst Movie of them all. Destroying the Skywalker legacy with this travesty

Rofl, saying TLJ is worse than AOTC is probably the most obvious trolling in internet history. No one with at least one semi-functioning brain cell would think a movie that includes Anakin Skywalkers manifesto about sand is better than the Star Wars movie with Mark Hamills best performance by far.

But sure, making the future Darth Vader a whiny bitch wasn’t destroying the Skywalker legacy, but a good story about failure, loss and coming to terms with the consequences is. ^^

I’ll instead put my list of the movies I would LIKE to see:
    1. Star Wars: Wrath of Revan
    2. Star Wars: Rise of the Republic
    3. Vader: A Star Wars Story (set right after Ep. 3)
    4. Star Wars: The New Order (Luke’s story of training the new Jedi)
    5. Star Wars: Tales from Wild Space
    6. Palpatine: A Star Wars Story
    7. Star Wars: Plagueis the Wise
    8. Wicket: A Star Wars Story
    9 . Lobot: A Star Wars Story
(Ok the last two were jokes 🙂

I’ll be honest…. i want all new characters and stories. definitely NOTHING with the Original Trilogy Characters in a Post OT timeline (Except Ghost Yoda, Luke, Obiwan (if McGregor) ).

#2 and #3 we are getting in comics/books.
And no Palpatine or Plaguies…. the mystery is more powerful.

Literally no one I have seen has ever said they didn’t like TLJ because it was “so different”. That is a total straw man. The movie is wildly inconsistent, characters make no sense and there are over a dozen obvious gigantic plot holes. The force is no longer a defined thing, it is whatever the plot requires it to be.

The movie is just very badly written with cringy dialogue and some ok jokes but quite a few really cringy ones. “Come on chrome dome” “Make that REBEL scum!” “Can you hear me now?” “Yo mama” joke? “You don’t kill the ones you hate, you save the ones you love” Rey faces zero adversity ever so I found myself actually rooting for Kylo in the movie, at least he has faults.

The space ship ramming at the end was perhaps the most illogical thing I have ever seen in a movie. It is stupid for so many reasons, I could fill this page with them.

Anyway, I am sort of jealous of Star Wars fans that found a way to love this because I thought it was a steaming pile of Bantha poo.
