Ok. I need some help from my fellow Star Wars fans here. I’m 47, and all the gaming I have ever done has been on the PC.

I am really, really thinking about buying whatever gaming platform would be the best for this game, just so I can play this game, lol. I have no idea of the difference between Playstation and all the others. Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

The PC version will probably look the best if you have the right set up. Of the consoles, I’d say PS4 will have the best graphics. But I personally enjoy the Xbox Live community, so I will be playing it on the Xbox One. Graphically, the Xbox will probably be the least of the three (but it will still look great).

I’m thinking of playing it on the flatscreen TV, and while I know that’s possible with my PC, I’m thinking that type of setup would be better with a gaming console. Am I wrong?

I am not a big gamer myself. But when I do play, I go for consoles. Hardcore PC gamers tend to lean towards the more diversified experience you can get with a PC, but I prefer the simplicity of a console.

You can hook up a PC to a TV and get a decent experience with some effort, but it’s not really an easy “plug-and-play” solution.

Yeah, I’ve got an HDMI port on my PC and I’ve used it before…It just seems like a console is more designed for that type of configuration.

Yeah, if your’e a casual gamer and you just want to chill and enjoy Battlefront II, i would recommend a PS4 hands down, i have both PS4 and XB1 and in my experience PS4 is superior in almost every way and most importantly the Battlefront community is bigger on PSN than Xbox live, although it is entirely down to personal preference.

Been an XBox guy for years, so I can’t speak to the differences between XBox One and PS4. Hard Case may well be correct about PS4 having a slight graphical edge, but I suspect that it will be minimal.

My suggestion is to have a look at what other games and game franchises each console has, and see which one lines up with the kind of games that you dig playing as a PC gamer.

If you wait until Nov. 7, you can get the newer Xbox One X (the latest version of the One). But if you’re not a big gamer you can get an older version that will play the game just fine and same you some dough. I have an Xbox One S myself. But the X and the S are just basically updates to the base system. To answer your question, the Xbox One is the latest console from Microsoft.

I know I could do my homework and dig through all the different opinions on the internet, but since I am specifically interested in this particular game and because I know most of you here know a lot about this stuff, I wanted to get my info from you guys.

It supports 1080p as well. You’ll still get advantages. Honestly that aspect of it is up for debate. Do you want 4k? Or do you want guaranteed frame rates with more visuals bells and whistles? Most games will have options that you can select.

Microsoft has said it’s up to the developers to take advantage of it anyway they see fit. So 1080p isn’t out in the cold. A few games already take advantage of it by smoothing the frames and super sampling.

If budget is a concern and graphics aren’t the end all for you… then yeah a standard box will do.

In order of power from weakest to strongest Xbox, Xbox S, PS4, PS4 pro and finally Xbox One X is as they say… the most powerful console ever released.

Xbox S supports 4k blu ray playback and PS4 pro does not. Some might find that important. They both support 4k from Netflix.

Except that the 1X is going to launch with titles (like BF2 in fact) that, while compatible with the 1 and 1S, offer enhanced graphics, lighting, and particle effects, in addition to better audio on the 1x.

I bought a PS4 simply to play Battlefront. It didn’t disappoint. Nearest we’ve got yet to a true SW experience in my opinion. I easily got a year and a half of entertainment from that game alone. The graphics in the sequel look superior, and I can’t wait to play it in November. I’d recommend going for a PS4, it will be the most popular platform, I recall PC users complaining that not enough gamers were playing this game, so they’d struggle to find enough players to enjoy a 20 v 20 online multiplayer experience.

I’ve been an Xbox gamer for years now, and the new Xbox X seems pretty cool. For my job, I have contact with many gaming news outlets, and most of those ‘pros’ seem to play in PS4. Now, they say that nothing beats a top-notch PC, if you can afford it.

A new top-notch PC will be out of the question, if only because the other one I have does everything else (besides being able to play this new game) that I need it to do. I’m guessing that buying the newest version of a gaming console would be much less cheaper than buying a top-noctch PC?

36 Gamer here. XBOX One is garbage. I had one, and every cross-platform game was worse on it. I traded it in for a PS4 Pro and have not once regretted it. Also been a PC player since TIE Fighter. This Generation of Consoles PS4 has won hands down. One example is Dark Souls III. On PC I get a crisp 60fps. On XBOX One I was getting dips down to 20-25fps. That was unacceptable. On PS4 Pro I get a constant 30fps. No dips. I cannot speak for regular PS4 though. And the other big thing was Player Base. Sony is just more popular world wide so the Player Base is huge. When I want to ruin someone’s day in Dark Souls III, I go straight to PS4 Pro now. No cheaters, and always someone playing.

25fps is bad these days? Playing Star Wars Galaxies 10+ years ago I’d think it was running smoothly if I could get 12fps. However If there was a base attack going on it’d be a slideshow.

Playstation is the dominant console right now. They tend to get the best versions of 3rd party games and their exclusives are pretty great. Find out what your friends have and get that, but in a wash, go with PS4.

Xbox 1S is close to the PS4 pro in terms of performance, but is very inexpensive in comparison, and the 1X is going to absolutely eat Sony’s lunch for the next few years. 1X will also offer improved performance and enhanced graphics (think particle effects, more complex shaders and lighting engines) for titles designed to take advantage of it’s raw power, plus XB has been steadily rolling out backward compatibility for 360 games and is adding original XB compatibility this fall. Comes with a price, but if 4X is important to you, I’d say the 1X will keep you going for years. (Only regret is no MLB The Show. Hell, no AAA Baseball title at ALL on the One. GRRRR!!!!!!!)

PS4/PS4 Pro, the Battlefront player base is much bigger on PS than XB and PC, so for a casual player like yourself it’s would be by far the best option. I love my PS4, it’s reliable and generally fun/easy to use all-round. Get a PS4.

I did not buy the first one. The lack of single player content and the sorely focus on Original Trilogy puts me off. I played the original Battlefront II on PS2, and there was SO MUCH content, a very good and chalenging campaign. The BF of 2015 was so lacking on that… Only one Era… Even if I am living my greatest time as a fan, I skiped that game. Battlefront II otherwise, won me over.

Hey guys, this is an update to my previous post regarding buying a new console system just to play Battlefront II. After reading the replies, I realized I left out some relevant information.

Here is the situation: I have a 1080p Sony KDR series TV…that is what I would be playing this game on. I will not be playing it on a PC. I now know the price differences between top-of-the-line consoles and buying a top-of-the-line PC, so it’s going to be a console.

From what I understand so far, the limitiation is my 1080p TV? The new consoles are UHD 4K? As it’s said in Spanish, “Perdon mi ignorancia”, but I think we have limited it down to the limitations of my TV, right? Any more info would be appreciated. Gracias a mi hermanos fanaticos.

4k games are non existent for the PS4 pro..they havent even made any yet. all ps4 games are 1080…there is plenty of point in getting the ps4 pro..besides the act that it has a better graphics card, more ram, faster cpu and faster hard drive..u can boost older games graphics. Telling someone not to buy the ps4 pro if they dont have a 4k tv made me belly laugh out loud…………..

You don’t need a 4K tv for PS4 pro and Xbox One X, but you aren’t getting any added benefit for the extra cost.

Again, there are some advantages to the 1S, 1X, and Pro (more horsepower under the hood, and at least in the 1X, that’s going to translate for this game to some additional graphic tricks it can do over the Sony and previous XB1 offerings) even without being able to take advantage of 4K, however I think in most cases they’re not worth the extra cash.
BF plays just fine on my standard, run of the mill old XB1, and it doesn’t sound like there’s been a total rewrite of the engine, just more…stuff (that frankly should have been there in the first game), and tweaks to how game mechanics work in BF2. In short, anything you do, either XB, or PS, will run fine, look, and sound, great. Only strong-ish argument for the Pro or 1X would be future-proofing yourself for a few years.

Even if you have a 4k tv or gaming monitor…it does not matter..This game will not be in 4k…4k games are rare at this point. and so far the PS4 pro is the ONLY console to support 4k gaming. The Xbox ONe X only supports 4k blu ray movies, and not games.battlefront II will be a 1080p game. PS4 pro is the way to go though..it has a faster processor, better graphics card and more ram and also the ability to boost older ps4 games graphics. it also has more audio output options….and theres also the fact that PS4 will get DLC a month before any other platform.

I don’t really do gaming these days, but I had the old Star Wars battlefront games from 7-8 years ago and they were entertaining with a decent campaign. I had a few games on the 2015 battlefront game on my daughter’s PS4 and was surprised how lacking it was without the PS network jazz. Battlefront 2 pretty much has to be better but outside of graphics, I’d stick with the old battlefront games.

Only worry is the comment, which pops up twice in the video, about ‘honing your skills in offline arcade mode’. That COULD be a simple attempt to downplay offline, SP, as the game is still designed to sell online subs, but it COULD also be read as an indication that offline is going to be as weak as it was in BF. Hmmm.

Yeah, but that’s my worry. I mean, there’s TECHNICALLY local offline in the current game…it just is so unbelievably limited (only a handful of modes and maps, only VS) as to be really, really, reeeeeeeeealy boring after a single sitting. Still not cancelling my pre-order (which I swore I wouldn’t place after playing BF, but hi-ho, so it goes), but there’s always that little nagging worry with EA titles that sometimes turns out to be completely justified 🙂
