I’ve watched all of the extras from the Blu-ray. There are a total of 11 extras on the bonus disc (nothing on the movie disc). They are all typical 2-8 minute “featurettes” dealing with specific characters or “The Empire”. There is one featurette on “the look” of the movie.

I’m sorry to say there is nothing that you’re going to want to watch a second time. No commentary track. No deleted scenes. This really is the bare-bones release, and you’ll need to wait until the holidays to pick up the “better” version with some real extras.

Of course the movie itself is among the best of all the SW movies, so it’s worth buying for that reason, but I don’t think I’m alone in being completely annoyed by Disney, producing yet another tiered release schedule designed to keep fans buying multiple copies of the movie.

Then again, I got the 3D TFA collector’s for half price on Black Friday. Also, while with TFA they had the excuse (they released the 3D later), I feel that there might be not a latter edition with more extras for Rogue. But if there will be one, I’ll just get it half priced or something, at least, and that only IF it’s so much worth it.

Im not buy this first release.
The hobbit films had a valid excuse for releasing the Extended editions later in the year; they had to finishes cgi/music scores for the extended scenes + there is usually 9 hrs of bonus featurettes (which themselves are edited and stylized documentaries).
There is no excuse not to release all the bonus content for Rogue one in the initial release + the commentary.
What they did for Force Awakens was worse. Holding back a few extra deleted scenes (which didnt even have finished cgi) + 2 short featurettes.
Whats worse is the atleast WBs tells us the extended editions are released later in the year. Disney tells us after everyone buys the first realese.

To be fair, Disney DID say that the 3D release was coming later in the year, but they didn’t say that it would come with extra features.

What extra features did it come with (besides the 2 Target exclusives from the initial Bluray Release)?

But TFA features were quite grat, i just want more of the creature shop and props… like….. 30min each.

Here’s hoping they consolidate/edit some more stuff for the 4K release… i’ll be double-dipping anyways lol

And JJ didn’t record the commentary until after April last year because he mentioned Erik Bauersfeld’s death on it which happened in early April about the same time as the first Blu-ray release

Indeed. I’ll probably just pick up the dvd copy and get the blu-ray when they release the awesome edition later on. Or maybe they’re saving all the snazzy extras (along with the still missing deleted scenes from TFA) for a box set release at the end of this trilogy. Of course that’d probably be a bank-breaking billion-disk plantinum version that comes with a complimentary handjob from mickey mouse himself.

Give me the movie on a single disc in a steelbook case and I’m 100% happy. Don’t care about the extras. Though I’d bet that I’m in the minority.

I almost never watch extras myself, but for a star wars movie I’d like to see deleted scenes & the making of. The rest of the stuff tends to be filler content. The listed extras speednet21 has mentioned on the blue-ray don’t interest me at all.

Come to think of it, until several years ago you used to see ‘making of’ documentaries on TV around the time of a big-budget movie’s release, haven’t seen one of those in a long time.

I will likely be slammed for this, but do we really need more promotion for Rogue One when we haven’t gotten anything for SW VIII? Believe me, I’ll be backtracking once the wave starts, but I don’t think the Rogue One disc promotion is going to move anyone off the fence. And I could use a good trailer to get my mind right for the next release.

Ok, slam away… I know I deserve it.

There is a method to the madness. Disney’s marketing know their psychology well, and there is a detailed calendar to every move they make. In this case, they know that Celebration is ground zero for Episode VIII promotion, and it makes no sense to generate consumer confusion at a time when Rogue One is just hitting digital and Blu-Ray. Now that the IP is firmly reestablished in people’s minds, they no longer have to do the long tease like they did for TFA. Just remember, the vast majority of people are not going to Star Wars fan sites on a regular basis, so what is overkill to us hits a basic level of consumer awareness for most.

Thanks, Maude St. Nubbins. I do agree with you, and I know that Disney is a finely tuned marketing machine. It just feels awkward to promote this film that is in DVD release when the elephant in the room is late (based on the last two films) to the party with promotion. The painful part, is that I will be one who complains that they are revealing too much prior to release. I am sure I’ll feel better after the trailer is released. Thanks for the thoughtful response!

I highly recommend for everyone to wait for the “collectors” edition of Rogue One, if they want the extra content.

Having a character that is partially mechanical w/ a breathing apparatus in the same movie as Vader … utterly retarded.

An issue I have is that Rebels used Saw in Season 3 and I dont think he is close enough in physical state as Saw in Rogue One. Since Rebels Season 3 is ~2 years prior to Rogue One should Saw be in worse state.

Maybe aw just gets in an accident between Rebels and R1.

From Kathleen Kennedy commentary in Rogue One making of she says he gets the way he does through years of fighting. Also I believe when you first see him save young Jyn he already appears similar to final form except with less bald. Need to rewatch to confirm that last bit, but thats how I remember.

Saw’s origin discovered in the blu-ray?!? Even though we know for sure that his origin is from the Clone Wars on Onderon? What else is there to discover? The discovery was made years prior to this DVD release. That’s like Christopher Colombus “discovering” America.
