Star Wars: Inferno Squad Novel Sets the Empire Against the Partisans.

A new novel, set shortly after the events of Rogue One (and, by extension, A New Hope), will focus on the perspective of a group of Imperial crack operatives as they go after the scattered Partisans, formerly led by Saw Gerrera. Christie Golden, who previously worked on the novelization of the unproduced Dark Disciple episodes of The Clone Wars, will write the book.

From the official Star Wars website:

The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad.

After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire — no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?

A novel with the Imperials as the protagonists is a welcome change of pace – but it does raise the question of whatever happened to Delta Squad (who were made canon through their cameo in The Clone Wars) and why they’re not present in this kind of a story instead.

Inferno Squad will be released on July 25, 2017.

    Re: Golden / Dark Disciple
I enjoyed the Dark Disciple novel.

Much more worried every time I see news about a new SW novel that Wendig might be given more chances.

I liked Dark Disciple. Golden has a clean writing style that lends itself pretty nicely to licensed fiction like this. I’m looking forward to it.

i liked it up until the third act when the story seemed to fall apart. though i’d blame it more on the source material then christine.

    Re: Delta Squad
Mention of Delta Squad ….(*sigh*)… just reminds me that we never got a sequel to the outstanding (under appreciated) game “Republic Commando”.

    That’s Inferno *Squad*, not Squadron.

I’d really like to see a Rogue Squadron series of books focused on Black Squadron and what the TIE pilots were up to during the OT. That’s an area of SW that’s never really been explored before outside maybe that 90’s computer game.

I really don’t see where they could go with this. I didn’t really care for Saw’s character, in Clone Wars or in RO so a book about his underlings doesn’t exactly appeal to me but an elite group of troopers for the Empire does a bit. It won’t be an audible preorder but if the reviews are good I’m sure I’ll eventually give it a shot.
