SW Daily Buzz: RogueOne Soundtrack Cover Revealed; New TV Spot and Galen Erso Poster; Gwendoline Christie on Episode VIII and More

Today on the buzz we have a new Rogue One TV spot, new Jyn and Galen Erso images, Gwendoline Christie talking Episode VIII, Riz Ahmed has seen Rogue One on his birthday and more.

Today we start with a new Rogue One TV spot (#16) with no new footage:

With all the Rogue One news it’s nice to hear something different from time to time, like a brief comment on Episode VIII from Gwendoline Christie herself.

From EW:

“I don’t think anyone’s going to be disappointed.”

“I thought it was a really interesting opportunity to play a female character where we formed an opinion of her based on her actions rather than the way she has been made flesh,” Christie told us. “And that concept within a Star Wars movie, a mainstream phenomenon, was very modern and interesting and exciting. I made no secret of the fact I wanted to be in the film, I campaigned hard to be in the film. But to be in it as that kind of character – she’s a woman, she’s in armor, the armor isn’t sexualized, and in the film we don’t see the actor’s face – I thought that was an exciting, modern concept.”

The cover art for the Rogue One soundtrack has been revealed. As expected it is using the movie’s official poster. It’s nice to see John Williams’ name mentioned there as well.

Riz Ahmed received the best present ever for his birthday yesterday. He got to watch the full Rogue One movie at Skywalker Ranch!

New cool image of Jyn Erso was revealed by the US Weekly magazine (see the title image of this article). That’s the same magazine that gave us a first look at Bail Organa.

A new Galen Erso poster was also revealed. He was not among the other similar posters that were revealed a few weeks ago.

Also Pacman…. I mean Rogue One gets a new poster. 🙂

Another box office prediction for Rogue One.

New interview with Felicity Jones!

From Deadline:

It’s just a fantastic story and it was magical making it. The scale of it, I think, and being thrown around in a spaceship that’s on a really high gimbal and it’s rocking from side to side and then you and your cast mates are all hanging on to each other, and there’s a camera right up in front of your face, and you’re shouting to each other, “Come on, we got to get to hyperspace.” It’s brilliant.

Gareth Edwards can go big and he can go epic, but he can also bring it back to the details. He made sure that all the stormtroopers were muddy and scruffy, and that it was all rooted in reality. Then, with Kathy [Kennedy], he’s created this great leading female role for me, and stood by her from start to finish.

Chirrut’s lightbow seems to be special. It was built by the “Guardians of the Whills”. As you know, the big temple in the Holy City on Jedha is called “Temple of the Whills”. Interesting…

Speaking of Chirrut, here are more photos from Donnie Yen on his Hollywood immortalization.

Diego Luna will be on The Ellen Show today:

Forest Whitaker launches an auction for charity. More details at the EW link.

Another announcement on the Rogue One cast appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Here’s a curious tweet from Twitter itself.

The Rogue One live stream starts later today at 1 pm ET. It was said that it will take place from a secret location.

Pablo Hidalgo’s new book, The Ultimate Visual Guide is due for release in 15 days!

More Rogue One props at Launch Bay.

And here’s a nice video with other Rogue One additions to Launch Bay:

More Star Wars: Commander content is now available.

Check out the first person who bought the Rogue One themed Nissan.

Propel’s Star Wars Battle Quads are on the cover of the latest  Bed Bath Beyond issue.

The super cool AT-ACT toy from Hasbro has been spotted at Star Trader.

Something special for the ladies.

And last but not least, here’s a video from the Rogue One wrap party…. kinda. 🙂

This article will be updated throughout the day if new content appears. And it surely will.

That new Jyn shot is awesome. I almost really like the B&W poster too. They should just have made the silhouettes more stylized.

I appreciate Gwendolyn Christie, but am starting to get tired of her pretentious description of Phasma. Yes we form an opinion on the character based on their actions as opposed to how they’re made in flesh, but this is hardly an original or modern idea. I mean within the Star Wars cannon it was first done with Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers. Yes, Phasma is a female who’s outfit isn’t hypersexualized but so is Rey. While I agree there is a tendency to sexualize a female actor, what’s starting to get annoying is that she’s calling this female character of Phasma as some sort of modern idea. Honestly there have been plenty of female protagonists and antagonists who have not been portrayed in a sexual fashion. I’m not calling her statements pretentious to slight her (I think she’s great), but they are pretentious in the sense that we all saw Captain Phasma in The Force Awakens, you can try to talk about attributing all of these deeper meanings and ideas about the character and philosophy of acting behind it but I act as well, and to me you’re trying to convince me the plain ham sandwich you sold me is really a triple decker BLT. C’mon Gwen. I’m sure you’ll do loads more in VIII, but until then lay off talking about how “modern/avant-garde” this character was for you because more often than not people will say one of the most disappointing characters was Phasma (due to lack of screentime)

Exactly, stop the definitions why don’t you and let us know of the character’s motivations, afflictions, backstory, future story, damn there’s so much to say about characters other than “strong female”

Except there isn’t. She’s harping on it because when interviewed actors have to talk up their roles, no matter how minor, for good PR.

Phasma was the Boba Fett of VII. Looked cool. No substance. Supposedly it was due to editing, but since this is still the song she’s singing, I’m beginning to think all Phasma is ever going to be is a neat set of Stormtrooper armor.

Sorry! I think only the short quote about Ep 8 is new. I recognize the long quote from around the time TFA came out. Not sure why it is posted here.

Let me guess, white male. Even if not, you surely don’t understand the female experience well enough to get why this is important to her. Or why you shouldn’t even give a hoot if it is.

For women, any and every character like hers that breaks the sexualized mold is meaning.

Carry Fisher dealt with this very think for Episode 7, where her appearance had to be changed because of Disney’s need to cater to a male dominated audience.

Of course most males won’t get this, and will put their views and needs above that of the women who actually is in the industries feeling the kinds of pressures women feel to be specialized. Not shocking men don’t get this, and heck, why would they even take the woman’s word for it.

No need to be racist. White male or not, LastOfTheDeji is entitled to express an opinion.

And you speak for “most males” as if you are some kind of expert on the matter. What are your qualifications in that field?

That’s the problem. Someone brings up the reality of white heterosexual male privilege and truly ignorant people believe this someone stating you are racist.

It’s a reality that occurs in American society due to Caucasians being the majority ethnic group which itself is male dominated.

It doesn’t make anyone racist for that being a truth. It isn’t racist or sexist to deny it. But it is ignorant.

I took offense at the post (by Timothy Bladel, above) implying that white man were probably too dumb to understand something.

I called the poster on it precisely because I don’t want to see this brilliant forum descend into that crap.

The problem is Captain Phasma just isn’t interesting…….yet, and it was made to feel before the release of TFA that her character was the new Boba Fett. A character that broke ground and became a favourite for not really doing that much other than looking fresh and cool.

Brienne of Tarth, whom she plays on GoT, on the other hand is an excellent character. The way she plays the character is excellent and though I’ve not read the books, the tv version is certainly breaking ground and is a great role model for women and men.
