Awesome, as usual! Am I the only one who thinks Forrest Whitaker’s line delivery was a little strange here, though? Maybe it’s just because it’s out of context.

Just as a reminder, “retard” is not a socially acceptable term, and could be flagged by mods. It is generally found offensive by people with developmental disabilities, their friends and family.

I think so, as they also seem to have blended from previous trailers KS20 lines ‘the chances of her using the weapon against you’ and ‘the odds of failure’. or whatever the exact lines are.

The trailers and other tv spots made me like this movie…. but I think this was the tv spot that really did it for me!

Interesting. For me I ultimately decide whether or not to like something after I’ve see it.

Further confirmation that the Death Star will fire at the surface of Jedha. I wonder if they will say it is like “one thousandth of the full capacity” or something? Surely it must be a deliberate choice not to blow up the planet altogether.

Continuity makes that impossible, since Tarkin back in ’77 said that Alderaan would be the first “demonstration”. At the same time, Rogue One would feel unsastifactory as a stand-alone movie if they keep talking about this inrcredibly powerful weapon but we never saw it being used at all.

      Fully Operational

Tarkin says: “I think it is time we demonstrated the full power of this station. Set your course for Alderaan.” So we should probably assume that it wasn’t at full power when they fired on Jedha.

Mon Mothma in the trailers simply says “weapons test” so I think we can conclude from that it is indeed just a test and not a “fully operational battlestation”.

I like how the deathstar eclipses the sun when firing on Jedha. Just like how the sun died in TFA as Kylo took out Han.

A tearful Anakin also watched an eclipse on Mustafar, after he had murdered the separatists. It was plainly symbolic of he himself having gone dark, and you could tell that he realized that something terrible had happened to him.

I guess they will have the same strange hissing noise in the background as well (presumably meant to be the ventilation system, or whatever — it adds to the atmosphere anyhow).

He just said “awesome”? Jesus. I am not english nor american, but there are no more words to describe such incommensurable situation? With that great voice and his rank in the empire ” awesome” doesn’t fit with this character. The language is so rich just to put awesome. My biggest fear of this projects is the writers. Hope they will not delight us with embarrassing dialogs.

In terms of literal English, they are correct in using “awesome” in this context. See my reply above to Joseph Daniel.

Thank you Evan. I know is correct using it. My opinion is awesome is so overused actually. Today it’s more like “supercool” (i’m trying to express in english what I think, sometimes difficult for me :p). In this scene I would prefer something more Shakespearean, or something like magnificent, imposing, formidable

Our colloquial use of “awesome” is grammatically incorrect. The literal definition is “extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear.” My mom was an English major and would scold me for using “awesome” incorrectly at the dinner table for this reason. They are using it correctly in this context.

I’m aware it’s grammatically correct, however, in our culture most people don’t use it that way anymore. All I’m saying is it took me out of the TVspot.

I’m sure the original line in an earlier trailer used “immeasurable” as the tail of that line. Not sure why they felt a need to fix that.

^ what Evan said. From my understanding, the term was traditionally used to describe truly incredible things. In the bible in traditional translations, the term is used to describe God. Being the highest word for describing God, it really has more weight than any other word used to describe an indescribable being. With that knowledge of the history of the word, when I heard Krennic use the word, I was filled with awe and wonder. If anything, awesome is too great of a word, not too casual of a word.

MODS: Please don’t post spoiler photos in the story leads. For people avoiding the way-too-spoilerific marketing that happens in the final two weeks, this is exactly the type of imagery that I was hoping to avoid. You’re making it so I can’t even visit the site and read headlines.

      Here we go again.

They are perfectly entitled to put screens from TV spots in the story leads. This are internationally broadcast TV spot, which are not designed to give away the most secret elements of the plot, and are going to be everywhere. SO in order to avoid it all you’re going to have to switch your TV off and avoid going to the cinema until the movie is released. Are you going to do that? No, I thought not….

      • December 9, 2016 at 7:43 pm
        Permalink

You thought wrong. If I were to see a Rogue One spot on TV right now I would immediately change channels or find a way to immediately mute it.

You seem to have a problem with people who think differently than you. Seems like a common problem these days.

Anyway, posting new content can be done just fine without posting spoiler images that will upset people trying not to be spoiled.

Think differently? No. I have a problem with people who don’t think at all and don’t employ logic.

For the reasons I have highlighted, this is material that the studio deems non-spoilery. If you are that worried about seeing any content at all that you would immediately turn off the TV when a TV spot airs (which even then you couldn’t do quick enough to avoid all of it) then logic would have it that you should not come to a Star Wars news website where the risk of seeing the studio manufactured marketing material is even higher.

Instead of crying like someone who needs to be wrapped up in cotton wool to the extent that even trailer images are too much, how about you simply do yourself a favour and not come to such sites until after you’ve seen the film? Simple solution, isn’t it?

          SMH.

Gonna mention this again: That blast would leave a scar nearly identical to what we see on the surface of Jakku.

    • December 9, 2016 at 7:11 pm
      Permalink

So you’re claiming we’re seeing the creation of a ST planet? I’ve read this before but I’m not buying it. I think it’s as silly as “Rey is Jyn’s daughter”.

I think people want this stuff for the squee factor, but I don’t see what it adds to the overall story or universe.

    • December 9, 2016 at 7:45 pm

The “scars” on Jakku were already explained as being from the Battle of Jakku. It happens when Star Destroyers crash on a planet.
