Daisy Ridley Teases Minor Star Wars: Episode VIII Details.

In an interview with Empire, actress Daisy Ridley took a moment to touch base on Episode VIII. She talks about how much of the movie’s rough cut she has watched thus far, implies that we shouldn’t get our hopes up for a surprise trailer for the movie in front of Rogue One, and gives away one (1) word from one (1) line that she speaks in the movie.

From Empire:

Empire: We have to ask about Star Wars. What’s the latest on Episode VIII? Have you watched an early cut yet or is it too soon?

Daisy Ridley: I watched a sizzle reel. I went to go see Rian in the edit, and that was very…[makes excited noise] Rian sounds very happy. It’s very, very exciting. Rian doesn’t love showing stuff. I’ve seen bits and bobs, but he likes it to be done. So I think probably the first time I see it will be when it’s fully done. I don’t think anyone will see an early cut outside of the main editing team….

E: Have you heard anything about a trailer yet?

DR: No. I could probably ask, but Rogue One is out in like a week, so I guess we’ll let that come out, be amazing, let people respond to that first. One step at a time! I know there’s Celebration next year. Hopefully something will be shown there? That’s speculation, by the way…

E: Can you share one line of dialogue from the Episode VIII script?

DR: I can give you one word. “I”.

E: That’s barely a word. That’s just a letter.

DR: “I” sums up so many things. It’s powerful. It’s life. I’ve actually given you a big spoiler!

There’s really not all that much to say here, but on the bright side, we should be getting a lot more news about Episode VIII after Rogue One proves to be a hit at the box office. So maybe we’ll get more than delightfully cheeky responses like this in the next few weeks.

Thanks again to The Cantina user MagnarTheGreat for the find.

I love Daisy!!! Can’t wait to see E8. I don’t think we are going to see even a teaser before April. And honestly, I can wait. I’m in no hurry for teasers and trailers, but I can’t wait for the movie!!!

What kind of a dumbass would think there would be a trailer this early?

I guess because there was a ‘Force Awakens’ teaser trailer a year before it came out, so you never know. Star Wars is a little more of an exception to the rule.

Thousands of people actually. There was a teaser for TFA a year and a month before its release, and production for VIII is so much more ahead of schedule than TFA was.

TFA had no Star Wars in front of it and it was the return of the franchise so they could take their sweet time advertising it, that’s the only reason why it came so early. I always thought that we wouldn’t get a VIII trailer before R1 because it’s a bad move from a marketing point of view, specially with R1 being the first non episodic movie and already confusing casual movie goers. I think it’s more like those thousands of people “wanted” a trailer more than rationally thinking we would get one at this point, after all movies don’t ever show trailers this early on, TFA was a very rare exception.

Are we sure she said “I”? Maybe the intended word was “eye”. As in: “I have joined Kylo Ren on the dark side, so from now on my leading philosophy will not be forgiveness, but ‘an eye for an eye’.”

Or perhaps Daisy meant to say “aye”! As in:

LUKE: Are you the lastest reincarnation of my father Anakin?
    REY: Aye!

For once I am semi grateful for the glacial pace that Disney’s been releasing spoilers about this film since it makes it easier for me to catch up on the missing months.
