And, there we have more Social Justice from Mark Ellis and the rest. Really getting sick of it all. You should choose directors / actors by their capabilities, and maybe personalities ( Harrison Ford’s really helped Han Solo’s character a lot ), but not by their skin colour, what they have in between their legs, or where they place their junk at night.

    • November 24, 2016 at 2:44 am

I highly doubt Lucasfilm are going to choose someone they think isn’t capable. The diversity thing is a money making strategy as is hiring good directors.

    • November 24, 2016 at 2:46 am

Nobody’s said they’re going to hire anyone unqualified. In fact they’ve explicitly said they’re looking for someone at the right point in their career.

Cue lots of: Waah waah! It’s not fair! Straight white men used to have it all their own way!

    • November 24, 2016 at 2:48 am

2 men(one of them black) and one woman have been cast so far. sounds pretty diverse to me. not sure what more ellis wants.

    • November 24, 2016 at 6:05 am

By your reasoning then everything should remain white washed.

      • November 24, 2016 at 9:50 am

No, that is not what I’m saying.
You see, in the past 2 trilogies, we have had white male main characters, And many star wars fans are used to this, this is their norm for star wars. However, in 2 consecutive years, we got 2 female leads, and a black stormtrooper, and many people were indeed shocked.
Look, I have nothing against diversity. After all, star wars takes place in a huge galaxy, so it would be normal to see a wide variety ie creatures and ethnicities, but Disney shouldn’t change everything so drastically, as many fans are just, used to the white male.
And if I remember correctly ( correct me if I’m wrong) J J Abrams choose John Boyega based in his ethnicities, and not acting talent ( well, of course he looked at his acting skills, butmostly ethnicity) which is what really worries me

        • November 24, 2016 at 10:09 am

Yes, so you think it should be white washed. Got you.

Two movies with TWO female leads and a black man back to back is just TOO much for Star Wars fans to handle.

You have no evidence that Boyega was cast because he was black. Sorry it’s so distracting for you to see a diverse cast on the screen.

          • November 24, 2016 at 8:25 pm

in fact i think the role of finn was open to anyone, regardless of race. the only stipulation they had was no british accent. boyega was(clearly) the best choice for the part.

        • November 27, 2016 at 5:07 am

wow. Congratulations on the election. You shouldnt express this so openly you havnt burned America down yet.

Dont really get why white people need to look at other white people in their Nazi flavored Space Comic movies… or why Disney would also want that or think thats how you make a billion dollars… They need to grow their bizness.

You also need to fucking grow. What you wrote is less cro magnon than it is indicative of your social consciousness and world view. Or in your case suburban view. That should shame you. My guess is your job and family probably already do that for you … so why pile on – am i right ?

But seriously bring on the blacks, gays and girls please. But no jews. Im kidding. I meant Arabs… Fuck the audience being comfortable – so long as you give them the red meat they clamor for. Disney will grow the buisness the same way they have in the cartoons…. Princess and Frog ? Mulan…. ???

Youre painfully ignorant and embarassing – sad white friend.

  • November 24, 2016 at 2:49 am

i’m pretty sure its an act, but campea’s rants really come across as petulant.

    • November 24, 2016 at 2:53 am

Yeah. Weirdly he’s usually the one I agree with most but simultaneously the one I find the most annoying.

    • November 24, 2016 at 6:19 am

Why is it an act? Because he’s critical of Star Wars? The audacity! Campea hasn’t said anything that comes close to the whiny petulance seen in the comment section here on a daily basis.

      • November 24, 2016 at 7:45 am

he likes to stomp his feet once in a while to stir up the pot. as to your second point, i don’t think we’re as bad as that. 😉

        • November 24, 2016 at 10:07 am

He’s on a show of die hard fans who do have trouble being critical of Star Wars. He does play that role; and while he does sound like a dick from time to time he usually does make a good point.

But the guy above hit it on the head.

          • November 24, 2016 at 8:28 pm

exactly. i have no problem with contrary SW positions(lord knows i take plenty of them), i just dislike his rants.

  • November 24, 2016 at 4:36 am

The ‘bacta tank’ scene from the teaser trailer, perhaps it’s not a bacta tank:
    Catalyst heavily emphasis kyber chrstals
Jedha is a planet rich in kyber crystals
The Death Star’s main weapon is powered by kyber crystals

Just maybe it’s not a bacta tank, and instead the kyber crystals’ housing that powers the weapon.

  • November 24, 2016 at 6:20 pm

Then don’t be excited about it. The end.

However you’ve proven you’ve cared with your last post. Mr. “Well we can’t have so much diversity all at once, please slowly phase out white and male actors because Star Wars fans just can’t handle the change”.

    • November 24, 2016 at 6:34 pm

No, what I care about is how they are making this whole diversity matter to seem like the holy grail of humanity’s advance. And to be honest, a movie can only ever take so much diversity and change, as at some point, the movie no longer feels like the movie it’s supposed to be. Now, this wasn’t the case with tfa, as it was the first movie in the reboot franchise, but the all-of-a-sudden diversity wave can, and if this wave continues, will negate the overall star wars-ey feeling, as it will be an overflow of diversity, and that original “kick-ass princess Leia cool” feeling won’t be there anymore.

And in the end, I am just expressing my opinion against mark Ellis’ pro-pc and social justice approach towards star wars.

      • November 24, 2016 at 7:27 pm

They’re not though. You’re making it that way. You’re making a mountain range out of a mole hill. They said “Hey we want to have a woman director” “Hey we want a more diverse cast” and then you literally whine and cry about it..why? You can ignore it, never think or hear about it again, and it’s over.

They have the right to cast the film in any way they say fit, if they decide to be progressive about it and include more genders then just males and more ethnicity’s than Caucasian, they can do that.

But right now you sound like the white genocide people who came onto this forum when it was revealed there was black Stormtrooper for VII.

“If you don’t cast more white people, Star Wars isn’t Star Wars anymore”

I’m not actually going to talk to you anymore, because I can’t combat willful ignorance at this level.

      • November 24, 2016 at 8:49 pm

I understand your position. At the end of the day the US box office is still the prime focus for success, and like it or not the main demographic is still male and white. This and the fact no-one likes to have obvious politically correct statements forced upon them. Look at the new Ghostbusters, it has forced home how an all female lead would be funny and if you disagreed you must be sexist.

Personally if a director is talented and can bring something to the film they are working on gender doesn’t matter, but to say we want a female director is just wrong.

Rey was a perfect character to have against Han Solo and Kylo, as for R1 we will have to see if its the right choice, so far I’m in.

        • November 25, 2016 at 12:45 am

Except the people who disagreed about Ghostbusters were being sexist for the most part. Funny thing is, diversity wasn’t the reason for the all female cast.

A new ghostbusters had been in development he’ll for years. When a concept that was fresh enough for studio execs came along, an all woman cast, it was green lit.

Then when the trailer came out white males came out in droves to complain even though Sony didn’t have a Kathleen Kennedy out front with a clenched fist shouting “girl power”.

In response to the rampant sexist statements hurled at the cast and crew the film adopted a pro diversity stance.

It was the insecurity of angry white men that initiated the entire fiasco.

This conversation is a microcosm of it. White males here are taking Kennedy’s statement and blowing it way out of proportion.

I’m a white dude yet never feel threatened about embracing change or acknowledging the existence of heterosexual white male privilege. I have and continue to benefit from it even when I don’t want it.

          • November 25, 2016 at 7:22 pm

            “white mail privilege”

            …… bruh….

I bet you also believe in the gender pay gap

          • November 25, 2016 at 11:25 pm

Blind ignorance. You must be a blissful individual. White as snow, too.

          • November 26, 2016 at 1:21 am

I may be ( and probably am) ignorant/ misinformed on several matters. However one thing I know for sure is that i am not guilty, even in the slightest, for the actions of people who lived before both of us were born, even if they’re the same race as I am.
My question is, why should I be looked down upon prejudged just because I’m white and over a hundred years ago, America was a country of slavery?

          • November 26, 2016 at 6:04 am

There’s no reasoning with some people.

          • November 27, 2016 at 12:29 am

You’ve proven that pretty consistently as of late.

          • November 26, 2016 at 11:09 pm

            Your insecurity is showing.

          • November 26, 2016 at 11:36 pm

Not insecure, just aware that I’m not Albert fucking Einstein and am not always right. And what’s wrong with being “white as snow”, even though I’m not?

          • November 27, 2016 at 12:32 am

It is, though. Now you’re somehow insinuating that I think you’re racist because your forefathers were racist? I don’t understand why America being a country of slavery in the past plays into your argument that you’re not being ignorant with your current statements.

It’s your words that brought on my accusations, not your lineage or your past.

And now you’re not white, even though you admitted to being white? See you later buddy, this was fun. Not really, it was sad, but I’ll lie for the benefit of saving you face.

          • November 27, 2016 at 12:49 am

I never said I want white. I said I wasn’t white as snow. Us Slavs have a darker tint, but still white.

I didn’t say you’re racist either. I just pointed out that the belief of white male privilege shows white male people as bad, which sparks tensions between the races

          • November 27, 2016 at 12:51 am

            Wasn’t* not “want”

          • November 27, 2016 at 4:06 pm

White male privilege in the US exists. It doesn’t show that white people are bad, it shows they are the majority and being a white heterosexual in the US affords you more opportunity than anyone else in the country.

The problem is when people in my country act like that isn’t the case, because they don’t know better then get offended by the fact that someone else insists it exists.

I don’t know what it’s like in your country, so I can’t and won’t share an opinion on it.

          • November 26, 2016 at 7:16 am

Just a damn shame we as males cannot take these weaker yet more aggressive types to the end of the pasture and help them walk out their problems. Shame it’s 2016 and we are still having heels dragging out of the 1960’s.

          • November 25, 2016 at 8:58 pm

The new Ghostbusters is a bad film, even if it wasn’t an all female crew. Just look at the original teaser, it was coming over as a sequel/soft reboot with the whole thing of showing the original Fire Station and saying the world was saved x amount of years ago. It gave out mixed messages from the start.

Honestly I don’t know why you label people as sexist just because their opinion is different. All that was said by the OP was that talent and expertise should come before colour or sex. I agree with that statement, its totally neutral and not sexist or racist. I didn’t vote Trump, not being an American citizen, and wouldn’t in my dreams even if I was. However, with people accusing people so extremely of being sexist and racist at the drop of the hat its obviously a protest vote.

          • November 25, 2016 at 11:23 pm

            Read my post again.

Also I agree, Ghostbusters wasn’t great.

          • November 26, 2016 at 5:49 pm

I have, and your basically saying people with a different opinion are sexist or racist. There will no doubt be an element of truth, as minorities in both sides of the argument are as guilty as each other. However, the original statement of talent and skill should come before a need for diversity in colour or sex is neutral.

I don’t believe angry white males started the fiasco that was Ghostbusters. The majority would of been angry at a reboot, with or without an all female cast. However the studio used the female cast as an excuse to shout down those with concerns as sexist. Had it been a soft reboot in the form of a continuation of the originals it would of worked far better. I lost interest once it was finally revealed as a complete reboot.

          • November 26, 2016 at 11:07 pm

The statements they make are sexist, and they’re being sexist or racist by making those statements.

Sorry, but the scape goat argument “This is my opinion, it isn’t sexism” doesn’t make something you say not sexist.

And I’m sorry you don’t believe easily re-searchable facts.

          • November 27, 2016 at 11:00 am

The OP: “You should choose directors / actors by their capabilities, and maybe personalities ( Harrison Ford’s really helped Han Solo’s character a lot ), but not by their skin colour, what they have in between their legs, or where they place their junk at night”

Your reply: “By your reasoning then everything should remain white washed”

I’m not saying some of the other stuff that’s been said in the thread isn’t sexist or racist. But how is it white washing when all he asked for at this point was for choices to be made by talent? Of course if a role is for a female/coloured/white/asian, or whatever, then you get the most talented person you can. I personally don’t care if Finn and Poe become more than friends, great new direction, but don’t do it just for the sake of appealing to minority groups.

What fact are you referring, the Ghostbusters? Yes the fan reaction at the start killed it, but its not because of sexist feelings. How many were like me, onboard until it was revealed as a total reboot? Maybe unsure because it was another reboot? There are so many other reasons than being sexist, though note I’m not saying it wasn’t one of them. I’m just saying don’t tarnish everyone with the same brush, otherwise your as bad as those you attack.

          • November 27, 2016 at 4:04 pm

That is *NOT* all he asked for or stated. He literally said that if you took too many white people out of Star Wars, it wouldn’t be Star Wars anymore. He also said that Lucasfilm should introduce a more diverse cast more slowly, again, or the films would fail to be what they’ve been in the past.

Because without white people, it isn’t Star Wars.

          • November 27, 2016 at 7:38 pm

NO – That is what he went on to say after you baited him. I’ve just had a quick scan and I can’t see anyplace where he’s said ‘Because without white people, it isn’t Star Wars’ It appears he’s afraid of change happening quickly, that is his right, yet you felt obliged to bait him and call him racist on his first comment.

          • November 28, 2016 at 12:20 am

I didn’t bait him. He said that in response to my post.

The ignorance in this thread doesn’t need someone to bait it out. You guys run it up a pole for all to see without any one else’s assistance.

          • November 28, 2016 at 7:05 pm

OMG you can’t just outright tell a lie like that! Its plain to see you commented upon his original post, a post that wasn’t upon anyone’s thread. Your clearly baited him.

You must be either smoking something or so up yourself. Scroll up to the original post and see for yourself that you lie.

          • November 29, 2016 at 1:22 am

Oh please. I baited him by calling out what he was doing? That he makes completely ignorant statements?

You must be so upset I had a valid point and you’re still supporting his.

Feels dirty, doesn’t it? Sorry. Actually not really.

          • November 29, 2016 at 11:44 am

You both make valid points as far as I can see. After all its called a discussion and for the record I’ve supported him by saying I understood his position. Understanding and discussion will resolve differences. You instead tar people with the brush of being either sexist or racist, and lie to support your argument.

Upon being called out for lying you turn it back upon me. You must be a very sad, lonely and angry individual.

I have nothing more to say.

          • November 30, 2016 at 4:14 am

When did I lie? Because I denied baiting him? It’s a discussion Steven, understanding it will resolve differences.

Your definition of baiting is what?

I call him out for making a racist/sexist statement. He then makes another, worse one, more or less proving my initial point, and that’s baiting?

Sorry you agreed with him and it makes you feel dirty.

          • November 30, 2016 at 9:26 am

Oh please, first you deny baiting him and say he posted on your comment, which he did not. Now your upset for being caught.Sorry you lied and it makes you fell dirty – lol

          • November 30, 2016 at 1:47 pm

I never denied posting under his comment. And it wasn’t baiting. Sorry you’re unable to comprehend that. Sorry you’re openly defending his racist and sexist statements.

          • November 30, 2016 at 6:36 pm

Again with the lies……..his was the original post, you at one stage said he posted on your post, the post with the statement that I’ve actively defended against you –

“You should choose directors / actors by their capabilities, and maybe personalities ( Harrison Ford’s really helped Han Solo’s character a lot ), but not by their skin colour, what they have in between their legs, or where they place their junk at night”

Now how is that sexist or racist, please enlighten me, as I see that statement covering both males and females, as well white, black, or whatever you wish to label an ethnic group. Hell its even pro-gay from what I can see. If anything that mind set should help minority group, certainly would of helped the Oscars.

As for not baiting, well you didn’t put up a educated argument now did you to that post, no, you simple put by his reasoning everything should remain white washed. Please break down that original comment that I have quoted and explain to me which part is sexist or racist.

          • November 30, 2016 at 8:01 pm

I thought you didn’t have anything else to say?

Repeating an empty accusation is something.

          • November 30, 2016 at 8:51 pm

I can change my mind, or isn’t that allowed? Thought you would raise that point, falling on such things when you can’t reply to the question. I find it funny you’ve not pointed out the sections on that post I quoted as sexist or racist. Not really a surprise………as you tend to turn the conversation.

At which point did I comment on his post agreeing that too much diversity ruins Star Wars by the way?. At which point did I defend that post, because I can’t see it.

Oh you are so clever we can all see, we should all bow to your superior intellect………..certainly can’t be bothered to reply any more, pretty sure I have you sussed out now. Though might comeback if you can tell me what is sexist or racist on that quote……..not hold my breath.

          • December 1, 2016 at 3:05 am

I don’t need to reply to the question. And it looks like you’re putting a lot of effort into these posts you’re writing; I’m not reading them.

I won’t be baited. What was that about discussion again?

The answer is sitting right in front of your face. If you truly cannot answer it for yourself, I am not going to repeat the entire conversation I had with another ignorant individual; especially when you’re highlighting single posts and asking me to give you context to a conversation that you can read all by yourself.

It doesn’t take a superior intellect to think. I’m sure you can manage it.

          • December 1, 2016 at 9:05 am

Not really. Can’t answer it though can you as your wrong and you know it, making you nothing more than a troll.

          • December 1, 2016 at 6:12 pm

            Sorry, I didn’t read this.

            Are we still talking?

          • December 1, 2016 at 6:34 pm

lol – you are easy to bait, and you don’t seem to like it as much coming the other way do you. Don’t you like my tone is response to your’s, because you seem to think everyone else should take it from you.

Checking my profile out……well that is a bit creepy isn’t it.

          • December 1, 2016 at 7:08 pm

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

          • December 1, 2016 at 7:32 pm

I don’t mean in terms of fishing…….but I assume you are American and not really using English correctly if you don’t get the way its used in this context.

          • December 2, 2016 at 12:51 am

Did you hear that? The wooshing sound near your head?

          • December 2, 2016 at 11:56 am

You still continuing with talking gibberish? Resulting to childish ways because you can’t answer a simple basic question. Not still stalking me are you?

          • December 3, 2016 at 4:41 am

You were interesting at first, but as with all your ilk, you begin to become quite boring a few days in when you run out of original material to attempt to insult or rile me up.

Man, how many months did you wait to confront me? And this was all you had? Pffft.

          • December 3, 2016 at 9:07 am

lol – what a sad individual you are.

          • December 3, 2016 at 10:30 am

Who’s acting tough and calling people out LOL? What was that I said earlier..

            Pot. Kettle. Black. Boring.

          • December 3, 2016 at 11:49 am

Boring yet still you reply??? Brilliant.

I’m not calling you out, you can hide all you like and stamp on people with your moral high ground all you like, I’m not bothered. Act tough and clever, and I’m still not really bothered.

Said earlier I’m was now baiting you for fun to see how you like it and you are still falling for it – LOL

          • December 3, 2016 at 4:11 pm

The repetition is really starting to kill me. If you’re going to continue to try to have the last word, why don’t you do it not saying the same thing you have the past..however many times you’ve said.

Baiting. Internet tough guy. Calling out. Hiding. Speaking down to you and everyone around me because I somehow think I’m intellectually superior. Completely whiffing on a Princess Bride Reference.

Yeah. It got boring a while ago. And you just can’t let it slide because you have a hard on for me. And now this whole “Oh I’m just here to mess with you and you’re letting me!” routine makes it even more pathetic.

This started out as a decent conversation and you’ve let it devolve into something Whedonslisp would perform. Bravo. You don’t get sadder than that guy.

I believe I said several posts earlier I was winding you up, baiting you as you do others with attitude. The term pot-kettle-black was spot on, but then I need to go to such measures – seems to be working very well.

I asked what was racist on that first post simple because that was the post you called out on, the others I’ve not bothered to read and I’ll not take your word on what was said, who would trust your word?

I’m not sure why you have such an attitude, maybe bullied or abused as a kid, I don’t really care. Maybe you are a kid, in which its kinda of sad, but in either case you need professional help. You might think I’m using a false name, whatever, but I’ve no need to hide behind another and act with attitude and then take offence when the flack comes back.

I bet you don’t speak to people on the street with your attitude, of course you don’t, its safer to do so on the internet. I’m glad its boring and you think I’ve wasted my time, even though you’ve been doing the same. I’ve happily filled in posts as a distraction to watching kids tv for the most part, so thanks for that at least. Also rather sad you think I’ve been after the last word when even after my admission of baiting earlier you still keep coming back, its almost as if that attitude you can’t control is desperately in need to have the last word………

            Not reading this.

I read the first or last sentence. Then reply.

Well I’m calling it a day. Read what you will.

I do regret some of the things I’ve said and I think we both over reacted in some areas. I admit I don’t like the attitude that some posts portray, seeing a lot as simply not needed between adults, and I’ve had fun for the most part in trying to get this through to you. In your eyes this might be right or wrong, but its the way it went down.

Probably could of had a good banter over a pint or two in a different time and place, walking away to agree to disagree.

            I don’t actually believe you’re calling anything.

I agree. There was only one actress who nailed the humor the rest kind of just stood there. Which was sad, based on the casting I did have high hopes. The first trailer told me no though. Still, I went to see it.

See. This is exactly where youve been misled. Human Advancement is hung up on how we percieve those we think are different from us and we see that difference most often via Race and Gender… do you not see that ? American culture and our Media (genre not buisness) are tasked with reflecting ourselves back to us in the most honest manifestation of that idea. And tthe rubber meets the road in only one place in film – Casting. No more white people movies. Its over man. Not even Trump can bring back that train. Disney and others arent casting for fucking flavor dipshit – they trying t o make art and to make art inherently you have to change things… Its a recipe but thankfully not your fucking receipe.
