Future Star Wars Film Production Names Revealed

Phil Lord & Chris Miller

Lucasfilm brought in ‘Lego Movie’ masterminds Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to return Han Solo to the big screen. The film seems to be moving right along as new information is starting to see the light of day. Today, the production names for the all-new Han Solo spin-off film have been uncovered along with a sixth as yet unknown film as well. Read on for more!

The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was only the beginning in kicking of this new Lucasfilm Star Wars empire. ‘The Force Awakens’ acted as the first in a brand new trilogy, with self-contained Star Wars spin-of films being released in the off-years. The new spin-off series kicks off in December with with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but many are looking past that toward 2018, eagerly awaiting the new ‘Han Solo: A Star Wars Story’ film.

Apparently Lucasfilm is getting very serious about the future of the Han Solo spin-off, as the guys from JediNews report that they uncovered the  names for the Han Solo anthology movie, and a sixth as yet unknown movie.

The as yet untitled Han Solo movie will trade under the name Carbonado Industries (UK) Ltd – yes with this name they truly have jumped the shark!

The sixth film has a production name of PLT Productions Ltd.

This could be the trading name for Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX or an as yet unknown anthology film.

Some readers may recognise that plt is a file type used by the 3D modelling software Autocad, and speculation will no doubt rise to a potential animated Star Wars feature. Equally it could be a non Star Wars film from Lucasfilm, such as the upcoming Indiana Jones movie. Let the speculation begin.

Interesting news indeed!

Cool! I wish the miller brothers all the best! Looking forward to what they will bring to the character.

That being said, the one film that I am personally still curious about is episode IX. I personally thought that Jurassic World was one of the worst soft reboots ive seen in a while. Ive never had an experience sitting in a theater where i am visually thinking about how flat and poorly staged this scene is. Apparently, Treverrow has never heard of the word DEPTH OF FIELD. Plus the script had flat, dum, boring characters

Yeah, Jurassic World, imo, wasn’t very bad. It was just extremely predictable and lifeless.

I agree. It kind of felt like a movie that was made in a boardroom committee with no particular sense of vision.

Your right, I dont. All I know is that there have been other filmmakers (like justin lin and joss whedon) who have been able to turn around projects in less than six months and turn it into a pretty good movie. Probably because they have a vision for the film. Colins take? Not so much.

Also people like Joss Whedon and Chris Nolan who prior to both their blockbuster debut had never had any other kind of experience in making a large scale production, where able to pretty much make it their own. Both are (objectively speaking ) good writers and have a particular style or vision to filmmaking. Whether you enjoy their style’s or not is entirely up to you.

Tru dat. With the post mortems already starting on Suicide Squad, it’s becoming really, really clear that a disheartening number, if not most of these tent pole films we’re getting lately are starting production with nothing more than studio notes and a release date. For the record, I enjoyed JW while I was watching it, but it’s not something I felt any need to revisit.

JW was a terrible movie. Seriously, the worst movie I have seen in a long time. As I was watching it, I was really hoping that Treverrow did not write it so that I could give him the benefit of the doubt for having done the best he could with the pile of crap he was given. I noticed in the credits that was listed as one of the writers. My heart sank. 🙁

You need to see more movies. It was by no means even the worst movie of the year. It’s uninspired and safe, and squanders a good cast, but it’s technically competent and isn’t aggressively stupid. Just…forgettable.

I dont think he needs to see more movies. IMO if you spend more than 2 million making a movie, it should at least be competently made, with a script that gets your characters from point A to point B. Shoot Jaws is a competently made thriller, its not some examination over the human condition such as anything Stanley Kubrick would have made. That doesnt make me intelectually or emotionally immature when it comes to my oponion on films. It comes across as arrogant and somewhat aloof, as if you know better than anyone what should is exceptional and what isnt.

True, but there are some objective things that can be said about a film. JW WAS technically competent, there were no really appalling performances, the effects work is decent, it moved from A to B logically (if completely predictably), and it didn’t drag on like, say, BvS did. That film objectively did some things very badly, no matter if you liked it or not. It’s badly edited, Eisenberg’s performance is just from some other movie, and it’s an ordeal of a dour slog to get through the ‘improved’ version.

I never demanded everything be a silent, navel-gazing contemplation of the human condition. I like popcorn as much as the next person. What I was reacting to was the “worst film” – that’s pretty hyperbolic. And it was in fact “competently” made, it just didn’t do anything particularly well. It’s inoffensive and forgettable.

I don’t know, haven’t given it much thought really. JP isn’t a franchise I’ve ever had that much investment in, so I don’t even know who’s attached to the next one creatively apart from the leads. I didn’t find the setup to the sequel to be overly clunky (certainly not as bad as say, the one in ID2 – yuck), and it has the promise of more payoff than the one Spielberg put into the first movie (seriously, if you show a cryocan hanging over the mantle in act one, it has to be fired by act three…or something…).

Trevorow is Spielberg’s buddy since he made Jurassic World, and obviously a guy he can manipulate easily, just like JJ Abrams. That’s the only reason he is where he is. I don’t see why they wouldn’t hire Paul S. W. Wanderson, Roland Emmerich or Uwe Boll for the movie instead of him since they’re looking for the shittiest directors around.

Yeah that is the primary reason why treverrow is where he’s at due to Spielberg. That doesnt mean however that he doesn’t have the chops to grow as a filmmaker. We are what, 3 years from Episode XI? There’s plenty of time for improvement.

Also why so do you seem to have so much vitriol and hate? Dont take it personal as to where they are going with the series. I understand that you dont like what they are doing and thats cool. Just dont take it as if you are personally being attacked by the filmmakers (ala the george ruined my childhood argument). You dont like it, speak with your wallet. Thats what I did with amazing spider man 2 and star trek into darkness and ypu know what? It worked! Now spider man is (at least in my eyes) back where he should be as the nerdy kid from queens and paramount finally brought a director who actually gets what star trek is about.

I’ve got to say, I’m a bit worried with Disney’s long-term goal with the Star Wars movies.

One new movie, every year ? Forever ? That’s a bit over doing don’t you think ? This new trilogy seems ok, Episode 7 was good, not great, not bad. Not sure the staying power of Episode 7 like ten years from now ? But what trilogy after that then ? And release this fourth trilogy just two years after Episode 9 ? Will this keep going to like Episode 18 and more ? Wow

Han Solo movie, was that really needed now ? How bout wait till Harrison Ford is retired and very old before recasting him so soon. In the meantime you can get McGregor to do a cool Obi Wan movie or something.

Rogue One, hmm…very curious how that turns out. Could be awesome and something totally different for Star Wars in a good way, or could be boring, and just a lame film.

Well I compare it a little to Marvel, because we’ve had a wave of superhero marvel movies coming in since like iron man 1 for about 8 years now and it’s still doing pretty well. They have well over one movie a year to account for that, so if they can take a handfull of superheros and make that much good media about them I think Star Wars can have an equal amount at least

“Finn shows no sign of force sensitivity”?!?!? Um. He awakens not 10 minutes into the film when the blood is smeared into his helmet and you hear the sound of the force as he flinches back suddenly. When Kylo later walks past him, he feels something as is stated in the script and made obvious by the look he gives Finn. Later in the film there’s a random scene where Snoke asks Kylo if he’s sensed the awakening but Rey doesnt awaken for another 15 minutes in her interrogation with Kylo. Finn however has displayed force sensitivity when he sensed a disturbance in the force and literally heard the screams of thousands of people from 5 separate planets as they were about to be blown up. This was no editing error. Its described in the book, and seeing as to how these planets are light years off the ground its unlikely that Han and the rest of the aliens heard it. Its also worth noting that Finn weilds a lightsaber impressively so for his first time and again for his duel with Kylo. His fighting impresses Kylo and Finn makes himself a worthy opponent. Now no random Jo can just weild a lightsaber and not cut their hand off. The last fact that makes Finn force sensitive is that he survived the attack Kylo dealt him to his back. We know that he is in a coma but since his role will be more physical in ep8 it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that he’s healing himself with the force during his coma.

I agree. So far with the comics and the books I’ve read, it seems they’re doing quite a good job at new story lines. And you can tell they’re taking great care with everything they do. My only concern is that they don’t branch off and take any risks.

The best parts of episode 7 were the new characters in my opinion. So I think that gives me hope for the future of the movies and such. I just hope they get into the old republic and delve deeper into the bad guys side of things.

I agree that I am worried about the long term game of Star Wars. I like what I’ve seen from the new trilogy a lotso far, and the spin-odds, while initially distasteful to me seem like they could be done very well. My concern is just what is the overarching story. Episode 7 was allowed to ramp up the nostalgia since Star Wars has been gone so long, but you can’t ride that train very long before we are over it and want new stories. If they do make an episodes 10 – 12, I don’t want it to be another “rebel vs. imperials” deal. The old republic was so creative with its lore and while I didn’t love the Vong invasion storyline in the EU, it too was something very different. Personally I think you should retire the “saga” films at episode 9 for a good while and just focus on spinoffs if you HAVE to make one a year just to keep a little of the specialness of a new trilogy if they do one

Who says it’s forever? I think they are going to see how it goes. But there’s def a market for it, and heck they have been churning out like 2 marvel movies a year for the last decade and that’s worked really well. We also get a new Pixar movie or 2 a year, so…
