Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Official Trailer Arrives!
Buckle up, ladies and gentlemen: the first full trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story has finally arrived after last night’s Super Bowl ad.
Stay tuned for our full trailer breakdown later today.
Grant has been a fan of Star Wars for as long as he can remember, having seen every movie on the big screen. When he’s not hard at work with his college studies, he keeps himself busy by reporting on all kinds of Star Wars news for SWNN and general movie news on the sister site, Movie News Net. He served as a frequent commentator on SWNN’s The Resistance Broadcast.
Nice.
Cool.
Hmm. Not sure what I think about it yet.
It’s a heist movie! Dear lord, yes, it’s a heist movie and God is real! Oooh weee! Solo heist movie! HEIST!
Gotta be honest. I was not a fan of Alden Ehrenreich as Han solo when I first heard about him playing. I didn’t think he could pull it off. That still remains to be seen of course, but during that speeder chase where he exhales, I actually thought he looked much closer to Han as we know him. I have a feeling it won’t take much for me to get sucked in and take the character for what he is, much like a young Bilbo from the Hobbit.
I’m thinking this could be a lot of fun!
exactly my point. I think we have to step back and look at it for what it is. Obi Wan in the prequels doesn’t look or sound anything like Alec Guinness, but he got us convinced to a point that most people think of Ewan McGregor as being the definite Obi Wan today, even with all the prequel baggage.
” I’m going to be a pilot… the best in the galaxy ” WHOO HOO! I LOVE It!
That buddy is ObiWan as the first Knight Of Ren and it’s the father of Rey Kenobi. Mother is Emilia Clark.
if rey was 45 years old.
LOOOVED IT!! ALMOST CRYING HERE!!! Fantastic. And I am convinced by Alden acting. Always had faith in the movie, and that faith is rewarded.
Looks like the rumours are not so true… (acting coach. Rubbish.)
That acting coach thing was a taken so far out. So many movies hire coaches to come in and help actors achieve better performances. Especially when the tone of the film gets changed last minute.
Ok. But the “report” that Alden can’t act at all?? So exagerated. The guy passed in a long testing process with lots of people. I never saw other movies with him, but never heared bad critics about his performances.
Check out the Coen Brothers’ “Hail Caesar.” He’s the best thing in it. It’s the movie that got him noticed, and rightly so.
Thanks bro, gonna check it!!
I recently heard Sam Rockwell – Oscar nominated – that he had an acting coach on the set of Three Billboards. David Harbour from Stranger Things regularly takes acting classes. People don’t realize that this is normal, especially for the actors who want to evolve and do better. The entire acting coach story was overblown out of proportion.
Looks great, had a smile on my face, and I love the group/team dynamic with the falcon as the headquarters for this small rebel cell. Feels like it could be the live action version of Star Wars Rebels, just a different cast.
Like this idea. We have to think that there was many cells spread all across the galaxy. That’s how Rebellion operates. Also fit right in with Rogue One operation.
Don’t like it!!!It’s very Disney-Marvel like. It’s missing the SW feel magic. If that’s the way they are gonna make every movie from now on, I won’t probably be watching any. I’ll still give the movie a shot!!!
Franchises are valuable because they induce people to be impressed by less.
Okay…well…Star Wars is a franchise so you go ahead and move along….
So Woody Harleson is Yondu and Alden Ehrenreich is Star-Lord in this one, right?
Oh, I hope not. My eyes can’t take another “daddy” scene.
Looks good. Definitely only a teaser, though. Interested to see what happens to the Falcon. And you could definitely see where L&M could have gone cute & goofy with it. But it seems like Howard went more Fast & Furious with it (in a good way, an appropriate way considering the characters).
You’re assuming that you’re not looking at L&M footage.
Looks more blade runner than Star Wars but I like it, it’s gritty and weird. Looks like a great sci fi movie with plenty of elements to please SW fans. I can see what they’re doing, rather than make a movie that will just appeal to fans they’ve made a blockbuster that will appeal to everyone it’s just the mould of what works nowadays and what people pay to see, nothing wrong with it. I’m sure it will make bank, be fun to watch and tickle the nostalgia bone in parts
Star Wars is at it’s best when it’s a little weird.
That was my thinking. Loved the weird things!!
Most accurate statement on this thread yet.
“…rather than make a movie that will just appeal to fans they’ve made a blockbuster that will appeal to everyone…”
That’s the way Star Wars has always been. Star Wars became a blockbuster franchise just a handful of days after it’s initial release in 1977 and none of the films have been made with the sole interest of pleasing fans. It’s better that way.
But yeah, it looks great and I can’t wait to see it!
Looks great! It’s hard to go wrong when Wood Harrelson says “I’m putting together a team”. The Falcon wiping out that TIE is classic.
Cool trailer, new Solo looks odd, but hey, the movie that matters, high hopes here.
They need to keep that music in the film. It’s like the music found in a Ry Cooder composed Walter Hill movie.
Seems the tone is more like a Western movie. Bygone days of the old frontier. The music compliments it nicely.
Feels way less a fan film than Rogue One.
I really like it.
Nice Cantina Easter Egg: Han’s hand hovering over his holster.

Looks like a very fun ride!
But…I am reminded that no one matches up to Harrison Ford. Alden Ehrenreich isn’t even close.
Still, I hope he can convince me when I watch the movie.
I don’t think he has to try to be Ford, though. If he can capture the character, then he will convince the audience that he is Han Solo.
Fair point.
Han Solo looks aside, he delivered those lines horribly.
Maybe it’s just me, he looked, sounded, acted completely unlike Ford in any way.
I thought he delivered the lines very Ford-like. Especially the one scene with Emilia Clarke where she tells him “I know who you really are”
Fair enough, I didn’t “see” it – but I’m being quite cynical.
I thought he did a fine job. However, since he’s obviously not Harrison Ford, it’ll be impossible for him to deliver a perfect performance. Fans are just going to have to go into the movie aware and prepared for the difference. If it’s a well written movie, I think Lucasfilm can get away with it.
Like Ewan was not Alec Guinness. Normal.
That’s all I’m doing. It looks like it’s got plenty to enjoy about it.
good. doing a ford impression is a bad idea. he needs to play han solo the character..not play harrison ford playing solo.
That would make sense if a number of people had portrayed Han Solo alongside Ford. This isn’t a James Bond situation for me where you can swap in and out people who look and sound and act nothing like the other Bond portrayals.
I was skeptical to see a Han Solo movie without Harrison Ford. Alden Ehrenreich looked pretty damn convincing in that last scene. Count me officially excited.
Yes!! Ehrenreich’s performance is slightly “off” but this still looks great. Excited about Star Wars again.

These are great! I love the Lando and Qi-Ra ones best.
I am 30 years old and I would hang that Lando poster in my room. Convincing my wife is the real Kessel Run there.
Here’s the quick rule:
Ages 10-25: stick your posters anywhere, any way you want
Ages 26-30: stick your posters anywhere, just frame them first
Ages 30- : frame your posters and with rare exception, keep them on display in a den or basement hangout room
You’re right on the cusp. I’m 42. I have a Revenge of the Jedi poster framed in my collection display room. The only Star Wars item outside of this room is a framed Chaykin poster in my living room. But that’s a pretty special piece so I made the exception.
Right now there is only a second bedroom for me to stuff on display and sooner than later it is going to be a nursery so currently my collection of stuff is going to be SOL.
This is visually beautiful, but I just don’t know if I see or hear Han in Alden. It legitimately worries me.
Yeah, again, it’s just a couple of lines, but I’m not loving his delivery.
Not at all.
Again this is less than 2 minutes of footage but I don’t believe that it’s Han Solo flying the Falcon at the end there. It seems like it’s just some guy. It’s what is going to separate it from being a good movie and a really bad movie for me.
Am I the only one who actually thinks Alden Ehrenreich makes a really good figure as Han Solo?
I like all his line deliveries, especially the one towards the end when Emilia Clarke’s character confronts him “I know who you really are” and he responds with “oh really”. The snark and his swallowing paired with the look on his face afterwards seem very Ford like to me.
I’m actually quite excited now
I agree. Chris Pine’s portrayal of Kirk hits notes of Shatner but he never does a full on impression. I can see where Ehrenreich is channeling Ford in the trailer but hopefully he makes it his own.
Chris Pine’s Kirk inhabits a rebooted Trek-verse.
If this was a rebooted STAR WARS universe, then I’d be more forgiving of Ehrenreich.
As he is supposed to be THE Han Solo – the Harrison Ford Han Solo, just younger, there shold be some continuity.
come on folks, it’s a film. it’s make believe. They can’t time travel and they want to make the film. just deal with it. Don’t get so hung up with it and just go with the flow..it’s not that big a deal..
Agreed. He may not have the deep voice but he’s got the cockiness down perfectly, which to me is the most important thing.
Agreed. It was subtle, but one of the trademark characteristics of Solo as portrayed by Ford was his frank smugness, immediately followed by visible dread. Ehrenreich nails it in that shot.
Huh. Well…it IS still just a teaser, but I thought the Superbowl ad worked significantly better. As the major difference is just more Alden in this one, that’s…a little worrying
It’s promising. Some intriguing new environments. Overly gray palette. Character design looks good. Not yet convinced it will be great, nor will I declare it to be the bomb so many others have already decided it to be.
Also, i think I think we have to step back and look at it for what it is. Obi Wan in
the prequels doesn’t look or sound anything like Alec Guinness, but he
got us convinced to a point that most people think of Ewan McGregor as
being the definite Obi Wan today, even with all the prequel baggage.
Not saying that Alden will replace Harrison, but just convince us enough, so that we forget about Harrison while watching the movie. We just have to keep an open mind for now.
The problem with your Obi-Wan analogy is that we only saw Obi-Wan as an older man in his 50s-60s in ANH. We saw a late 20’s early 30’s Han already. There are so close in age where you have to think that this movie can’t be THAT far away from ANH. In order for the movie to work you have to believe that this guy grows up to be Han Solo really quickly. I just don’t know.
I always thought that Han Solo in EP IV was more like mid to late 30’s. At least that’s what Harrison’s age suggests.
He was born Juli 1942, which would make him exactly 35 when Ep. 4 came out.
Assuming you attend the Empire academy in your late teens, that would create a 15+ year gap in age between the two films.
Yeah I can see 35 years old. But Alden is playing Han at 25? It’s still a relatively short amount of time.
No.
We’ll first see Han as a teenager (18/19 years old).
Kathleen Kennedy: He’ll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s. We’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo.
https://www.cinemablend.com/new/How-Han-Solo-Star-Wars-Prequel-76997.html
If we see Han as 35-ish in ANH, then this fella as a 18-20 year old Solo works just fine for me.
What’s the current agreement on Han’s actual age in ANH?
Back from years ago, I thought he wass 33 in ANH, but not sure if that’s changed.
I believe his character was 29 in A New Hope. But, with everything he’s been through, he appears older.
That sounds about right, but they keep changing the ages of SW characters.
Obi-Wan is now meant to be 57 in ANH (?!) And of course Anakin Skywalker/Sebastian Shaw is meant to be in his early 40s now (!)
“That sounds about right, but they keep changing the ages of SW characters.”
I guess this is inevitable when you’re writing stories around things that already happened on film. Prior to the Prequels, most of my friends and I saw Obi-Wan as a character in his late 60’s or early 70’s. Guiness was in his early 60’s when ANH was filmed. So…having the character be in his 50’s takes a bit of rethinking.
That said, if I fought a war, all of my friends were killed off, my best friend tried to kill me, the galaxy was thrown into tyranny, and I plopped myself on a desert planet with two suns for 20 years and come see how great I look. Hell, look was a few years in the presidency does…
It’s intentionally vague so that this movie will work better. But Harrison Ford was 35 during the filming in 1977.
Okay. I didn’t know if his character age was codified anywhere.
He is not Ford and it’s not fair to compare just from a familiarity and age standpoint. Harrison was already mid-30s in ANH and 40 by ROTJ.
But, for some reason, I can buy this more than someone else playing Indy.
I guess you never watched the young Indy series…brought to you by Rick McCallum, producer of the prequels
Looks nothing like Harrison Ford as Han Solo, sounds nothing like Harrison Ford as Han Solo – what could go wrong?
The first Disney Star Wars cosplay movie where the main characters looks and sound nothing like their characters!
To say I ‘have a bad feeling about this’ is an understatement.
It’s the biggest challenge this movie has facing it. If you aren’t convinced that Alden is Han Solo then it won’t work. It’s so much riding on his shoulders that I almost feel bad for the guy.
It’s not about mimicry and doing an impression of Han Solo so much as it is replicating the feel of his character and attitude.
It won’t be easy for everyone, but you have to separate the actor from the character. If the portrayal sounds like something Han would say or do something Han would do, it should work.
See that is where I respectfully disagree. We saw Han relatively the same age in ANH. What could the difference be? 10 years at most? He has to be closer to the Han we met than we are realizing. It’s going to be such a challenge separating the character from the actor because they are so close in age. Nobody had that problem with Obi-Wan because Obi-Wan was an old man when we met him. If all we knew of Han Solo was from TFA then this would work better, but it isn’t.
Yeah, it won’t be easy, but as long as he captures the character up and down, I will be okay with it. It will block a lot of viewers I am sure, but we all know how impossible it is to replace Ford.
It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rUMa8bFbqo
It is supposed to be 10 years before A New Hope according to screenplay writer Lawrence Kasdan. Solo is mostly in his early twenties in this movie and he’s in his early 30s in A New Hope
If people had an issue with Grumpy Luke there is no way in hell the “hardcore” are going to accept Young Han. It’s unfortunate but the complaints will be the there regardless
I see your point, but in ROGUE ONE, they went to pains to recreate Tarkin exactly, and they had Mon Mothma who was accurate to the ROTJ portrayal.
Here Han ( does not seemingly – to me anyhow ) have a semblance of Han/Ford.
Think back to River Phoenix as Young Indy – he was nigh on PERFECT.
Yeah, but those were very small screentime roles. This is the lead character. It is a tall order to find someone who looks, sounds and acts like Harrison Ford. Then you have to ensure they are a competent actor and can drive this movie. Even then, the differences will be there and it won’t be perfect.
The primary thing that could go wrong is if he tries to play Harrison Ford instead of playing Han Solo. The same as Chris Pine attempting a Shatner impression would have sunk Star Trek. Nonetheless, I certainly see notes of Harrison’s Solo in that trailer.
My only buy in is if it is set at least 10 years or more before ANH. Then we could easily look past voice and such…imo
So…what sort of time frame are we looking at here? How long prior to ANH is this supposed to be set?
not sure yet…I’m just hoping that they don’t sale it as like a year or two before ANH, or even worse have this end with them about to go into the bar for the Obi-Wan charter with Luke.
No no no. That would be awful. If Solo is in his early-mid 30’s during ANH and Ehrenreich plays a late teens/very early 20’s Solo – well, I can roll with that.
Daniel Craig doesn’t look anything like Pierce Brosnan, or any Bond actor before him … what could go wrong … hmm wait. He has to create his own version of Solo and not act being Harrison Ford. And we, we’ll just have accept it … and enjoy the performance for what it is.
You can’t ask an actor to portray a character as portrayed by another actor.
If you do, you are destined to be disappointed.
Unless … https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/edd60da56167734bbeb22ca23676edd78980a7b182ab07fe33b69ca1ede98e3f.gif
Lmaoooooo
exactly, I hope he made his own version of Han. Like all the actors that have played James Bond did as well. Same, but different.
You should look up the history of film and be prepared to be so wrong.
yeah, all those James Bond films really flopped didn’t they…oh, and the new star trek ones…
Seems like a lot of people are missing my point, or I stated it poorly.
Basically, Alden shouldn’t be playing Ford playing Solo. If that’s what you expect, you will not like the movie.
This could turn out better than anyone imagined. If this blows people away, I can see a sequel. Who wouldn’t want to see the adventures of Solo and Chewie? Stand alone movie that ties into the larger universe? Yes, please.
I’ve said it before, but Han is the ideal OT main character to unlock more films and spin-off possibilities in the criminal underworld of Star Wars. I’d say a sequel is already very likely, but it might be called “Fett”. 😉
Enter Jabba, the Godfather.
If we can see more of the “strange stuff” alluded too when he first met Luke, that could be interesting.
My white car got dirty really quickly back in High School but those interiors of the Falcon got worn and filthy in a very short amount of time.
Repeated smoke damage from internal explosions, fires, botched modifications.
And smugling questionable cargo.
My guess is we’re going to get some nod to Han basically trashing it towards the end of the film, hauling some space pigs or something haha…
Or, Chewie’s not properly house trained yet.
I think this is at least 10 years before ANH.
That’s a lot better than I was expecting, honestly. It’s visually beautiful, and I can almost fully see Alden Ehrenreich as a younger Han Solo. I love the fact that it’s a heist film too. So consider my hyped up and looking forward to it!
Odds that Vader or Kenobi are in this ?
Approximately 3720 to 1.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/82e721f855b69ca4c7c783f45bf273d176b92f34a3698ea443766e3e4a994933.gif
No Kenobi. Vader is a more likely possibility, but I hope not. They don’t need to shove Space Jesus into every damn thing.
Dont want to see either this is a chance to expand the galaxy
First impression is the kid doesn’t really look or sound like the Han Solo we know, but neither does Chris Pine look or sound like the Captain Kirk we know. Still, something about Pine’s performance gets the essence of the Kirk character, and there’s enough here with Solo to be optimistic. It’s like replacing Sean Connery as Bond. He will always be the best, but subsequent actors have made the role their own while getting the essence of the character. Also, I’m diggin’ the initial looks of visuals, aliens, and worlds – areas the ST movies came up short on, in my opinion. Also, it seems that Emille Clark’s charisma is going to transfer nicely from GOT. Here’s hoping the trailer is reflective of her screen time and she doesn’t get the Phasma treatment.
For all intents and purposes, the JJ TREK films are essentially a “reboot”, so the differences between Pine and Shatner actually work ( Pine still “embodies” certain aspects of Shatner and Kirk very well ).
Alden Ehrenreich’s Han is meant to be “in-continuity” and not a reboot, so he should embody some aspects and qualities of Ford and Han Solo.
I don’t see it at ALL in the trailer, but I am hoping it will all come together in the actual movie.
“For all intents and purposes, the JJ TREK films are essentially a “reboot”, so the differences between Pine and Shatner actually work”
They are still the same person.
You just have to tell yourself it’s a movie and things will be ok.
Actually they’re not, there’s probably 30 years between them. Shatner is also fatter. They also have different names, Chris and William.
I’m surprised you didn’t spot these differences I had you pegged as more observant.
^^Sorry couldn’t resist.
This is also the young Han Solo (late teens initially), not the younger Han Solo. Implies the events of this movie are heavily influential in shaping who he’ll later become.
It’s clearly not Harrison Ford, but I agree with you, if the kid can deliver a strong character we can identify with, then the movie will be fine.
He’s also not carrying the movie totally by himself. He has Chewie, Lando, and the Falcon assisting him.
I think it’s the way Pine stands, tugs at his shirt, the subliminal stuff that helps him pass as Shatner’s Kirk.
Even though he has made no obvious attempt to sound like Ford (From what we’ve seen), I’m hoping the new kid has taken on some of his mannerisms which should help him to be more convincing.
other than his voice not being low or gruff enough…i really have no complaints. he looks right, his acting seems…ok….his young voice..thats my only gripe. and if i can suspend some disbelief (and if we cant do that, we are too old and jaded for star wars no?) then this might be a cool flick.
Agreed. That said, most guys’ voices tend to get rougher and lower as they get older, even well past their twenties. Who knows, maybe he picked up chain smoking a particularly harsh brand of space cigs between this and ANH. 😀
Deathsticks, dude. Deathsticks. : D
Or a particularly bad brand of death sticks in Chalmun’s Cantina
Lando looks fucking great. that smile…yes.
Agreed. I wish we’d gotten at least one line from him, but yeah, lookin dang good. 🙂
I really think after the bad taste of TLJ, that I’m looking forward to this! Might get used to the kid playing Solo, but man, his voice is just soo off. Hopefully the story will make me not think about it!!! High hopes after initially not being excited about this at all.
Please tell me Greedo is in Beckett’s crew.
I think this movie is set before Han gets involved with Jabba and his crew.
Looks that way. This looks farther back than I thought.
It looks like this will be the first SW movie to cover time spans of any significance:
Pre-War Han
War Han
Post War Han
Possibly, but there’s no reason Greedo couldn’t have been involved with Beckett before moving to Jabba. I just like the idea of Greedo and Han working together on a job prior to Han’s eventual murder of Greedo.
That is true.
Looks solid. I still don’t plan on seeing this in theaters but it is not going to be a train wreck.
Hey, think of it this way: judging by a few of the clips we’ve seen already, there could be an ACTUAL train wreck in the film! And it could look better in Imax…just sayin’. 😉
LOL. Yeah mostly why I’m not seeing it is I don’t want to pay 15$ to smell someone’s farts for 2.5 hours like I did with TLJ. I’ll just wait for it on video. Not sure I’ll ever go back to a theater again. I already don’t like crowds.
Visuals look great, tone seems fine but I think the new guy will take some getting used too although I’m not writing this off yet. Having been burnt by some trailers and the odd Star Wars film before I’m going to wait for the general audience word of mouth rather than critics this time so I will reserve judgement until later. Cautiously optimistic.
Good idea. I argue most critics during premieres cannot be trusted. And it is not just because of bias/ mutual gain from studios. But premieres; the experience often clouds judgement and usually I argue people should wait and let their thoughts stew before giving an educated review.
This looks excellent. My only gripe would be – “why did they name the thing ‘SOLO’?” It seems like an awesome ensemble movie. A title like, “The Great Kessel Train Robbery” seems like it would be more appropriate – and take pressure off Alden having to carry the thing SOLO.
If you need to ask why the title “Solo” is more appealing than “The Great Kessel Train Robbery”, then I really don’t know where to start…..
That was a tongue-in-cheek ‘title’ I made up… No, that wouldn’t be good either. Just saying something in that vein.
I’d prefer “RANGER SOLO”.
;D
How about:”Han Solo -Spank my Wookiee”
I agree that a swashbuckling title would have been far better.
Han Solo and the Pirates of Kessel!
Han Solo! In an Adventure with Pirates!
Space Pirates: Scourge Of The Universe
A Scruffy Looking Nerf Herder and his Band of Thieves
HAN SOLO At Star’s End.
Han Solo and The Arc of the Covenant.. oh, wait…
Pirates of the Correllian
YOLO: Han Solo’s Polo
“NOT The Last Jedi.” SLAY!!!!!
“The Great Kessel Robbery: A Star Wars Story” Yeah, I like that better 😛
Looks very promising. That sound (real or simulated) of an overdriven electric guitar with a depressed whammy released and returning to pitch is cool. Sort of makes a statement that this is going to be rock and roll!
Haha yeah. Like the beginning of Kickstart My Heart.
Iffy about the voice but that final line of the trailer did it for me, felt Han to me. Really stoked for this!
Yeah, the voice made him sound even younger than I expected this Solo to be. But you’re right that final line was without a doubt Han Solo.
Yep. Another cool easter egg. The same line he says in Death star boring conversation before rescuing princess.
-We’re fine. We’re all fine here.
That dancer/singer looks like The Fifth Element’s diva.
Very much so. The accompanying alien musician in that floating jar next to her, though…100% Star Wars. This looks awesome.
Fearless prediction: John Williams’ theme wins him his first Grammy for Best Heavy Metal Instrumental.
The Millennium Falcon looks different at 1:06-1:07 … or isn’t it the Falcon?
I believe is supposed to be the millennium falcon when it was brand new. .
Yes, and I think that this sequence is the Kessel Run.
Funnily enough, Ehrenreich’s face bears a close resemblance to Carmine Infantino’s unique depiction of Han Solo from the original Marvel SW comics.
Wow good call…he totally does! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/09b1d5249f6492ba16a08af7d380e366961708551df77fe7015e3403c893f3a5.png
FILET!!!!!
This looks like a real adventure movie. Fun, fast paced, not taking itself too seriously. Kind of like the Indiana Jones movies in outer space!
As long as wRONg HOWARD doesn’t revisit ROSE like RUIN JOHNSON did, then this movie might win a Grammy or two. RUIN JOHNSON KILLED THE SW!!!
SLAY!!
hahaha
Can we at least SEE the film before we start to call him “wRONg Howard”?
You never know you might actually enjoy it!
Oh, I hope JJ puts Rose front and center in EPIX just to annoy you.
Assuming ANH Han is 35, and this Han is 20ish, then we’re looking at a film that takes place very close in the timeline to RoTS. That’s going to be interesting. I assume the Rebellion hasn’t really got going, and the Empire is still just getting established?
Wookieepedia says he was born 29 years before the Battle of Yavin(BBY). RoTS was 19 years BBY. So If Han is 20 in this movie, that is 9 years before Yavin. To put this in perspective, Kanan and Hera meet for the first time in 11 BBY. The rebels were still individual cells at this point.
Can someone clarify something for me – Starwars.com are describing the 1:30 minute trailer as the “teaser trailer”. Does that mean there will eventually be a longer, full film trailer, or is this it now until May?
I think the teaser is what was shown during the Super Bowl last night, which was shorter than this. Still, this was shorter than I expected.
They are both called teasers on the Star Wars youtube page.
That was the teaser of the teaser, which is a prelude to the trailer. I believe the teaser to the teaser was also teased prior to it being shown.
Wow! This is really getting out of hand!
I think they’ll be a full trailer yet to come. Maybe, will drop end of next month/beginning of April.
The 1:30 trailer is a teaser. There will be a full trailer.
yes, there will be at least one more trailer. And a bunch of TV spots, as usual.
This is a teaser, there has to be a so-called story trailer that describes more of the movie’s story. Probably in April. And than a ton of TV spots we should all avoid because they always show too much.
Dammit….it’s growing on me.
Once again, not digging the trailer music. This is a STAR WARS movie Kathleen, NOT a generic action hero flick like “Superman Returns”. So much computerized synthesized crap!!!! Stay truer to the John Williams feel in the trailers. Keep it a cut above all the rest of the same s#it that’s out there!… Other than the trailer music complaint, trailer itself looks pretty good.
Yeah! The music is crap.
almost think they should just recycle all the original sound for the new movies…did you catch Rogue One with the original score inserted? it was GREAT!
you mean, someone created a version, where he put John Williams’ music under the dialogues and pictures of R1?
it’s out there…that was my one and only complaint with R1…and it made the movie soo much better!
It is out WHERE? That was my intended question 😉
I’ll see if I can find the link this evening and send it to you. Google it, and you should be able to find it though…unless it got pulled.
It’s fucking TRAILER MUSIC.
I know what you mean, but I doubt it’s the actual music. None of the recent trailers have featured the actual score.
To be honest it didn’t convince me. It didn’t give us much insight to the story. The visuals are great but that’s no question for a star wars film.
Alden looks decent, his voice on the other hand…not so much. Emilia Clarke’s character looks interesting, and Donald Glover looks like the perfect Lando. On the other hand Woody Harrelson’s character seemed like a very generic mentor type character, I know it’s just a trailer, but it didn’t made me want to know more about him.
That western looking scene around 0:50 looks fantastic, I dont’ know who is the villain character there but he looks amazing. I also like the star destroyer in the storm scene as well.
But the real question I have after watching this: Did we really need the giant tentacle monster at the end?
Dude I swear to god either Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger, or some secret VFX employee has a weird alien fetish. In TFA we got the Rathtars. In Rogue 1 we got Borgullet. In TLJ we had nipple milking. In Han Solo we have more giant tentacles…. I swear to GOD this is being planned.
Dude, every Star Wars movie is full of aliens. SMH
I know, and they also went back and inserted the Dianoga in ANH, the Exogorth in ESB, the Rancor in ROTJ, the various sea creatures in TPM, the various arena monsters in ATOC and the Boga in ROTS all in an attempt to makes us think that weird, large alien creatures have always been a part of Star Wars!
Yes but all the creatures you mentioned above were different. In the last 4 films we’ve seen tentacle mosnters over and over again, and I don’t see the point. Why not introduce something different? I didn’t have a problem with rathtars, bor gullet was a bit much but I liked the thala sirens (TLJ milking creature), because they were different, not a harm to the characters that they need to kill/avoid but something they can live with.
This time the inclusion of this monster seems forced, there is absolutely no need for it. It’s just there for the sake of having a giant ugly creature, becaues that’s what star wars films has.
If we have an Exogorth, we can have anything. Tentacles are probably just as common an appendage as arms and legs are.
I personally have no problem with aliens. But if aliens were actors, I don’t understand why the alien with the “top billing” in a sense of the films always has to have a lot of tentacles. Do tentacles = scary and werid.
That’s your appendage bias. One could just as easily ask what’s up with all the creatures with arms and legs.
It probably has something to do with tentacles being a lot easier to animate now than they would have been in the past and certainly easier than doing it practically. The shortage of tentacle monsters combined with the ease of creating tentacle monsters results in more tentacle monsters.
In A New Hope we had a tentacle in the trash compactor, a space slug in Empire, and a vagina with teeth in Jedi.
#convinced
please don’t bring up the milking scene again…ughhhhhh!!!!! so bad!
Then there was this little beauty in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which I’m pretty sure crossed over the Disney mutliverse from Star Wars:
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/6c296f9dffc83ed540a14e901846b241cf122b635a52616de27a910126e35c0c.gif
Alden’s voice doesn’t bother me. People’s voices certainly change as they age.
I’m not so sure about Harrelson, however. I have a bit of an issue with well-known actors in Star Wars movies. Even when their performances are great, I’m taken out of the film for a moment. I loved Whitaker’s Saw…but it was Whitaker. There’s no way I can see Mace Windu without just seeing Jackson.
It’s not just his voice but how he delivers those lines. Doesn’t sound like Han Solo for me, but again it’s just a trailer, I’ll wait for the whole film to judge.
Exactly, I only can see Harrelson here, not a new exciting star wars character. He looks like as he looks like in any of his other roles.
SLAY!!!!
Oh man…this should be interesting.
I was hoping that Mace was going to use the Pulp Fiction quote before he was getting ready to slay the emperor! lol
You make sort of a good point (I can’t believe I just said that.) : D
When I saw E1 in the theater, a couple dozen people within earshot of where I was sitting whispered that line. I was certainly thinking it. And in 1999, Jackson was experiencing a peak in his popularity. Don’t get me wrong, his reason for why he was cast for that role is sort of neat. But I can’t see Windu without also seeing Jackson. But I didn’t care for the character of Mace Windu either so…
lol
you know that he had engraved on his lightsaber for the movie was “bad mfer”
Yeah. I love that. I would hope he’d be able to retain the prop.
I’d bet that it’s on his wall!
“The visuals are great but that’s no question for a star wars film.”
They don’t look as convincing as they did in the original trilogy. Take the Executor for example in the TESB then compare it with any of the new ships. Detail wise, the Executor blows them all away. None of these new ships even come close. Ditto for the X-wings, and Tie Fighters. Hell even that Death Star they recreated for Rogue One didn’t look as good as the original.
I don’t agree. The OT was a huge technological step forward, and because of it, it looked so much better than the other films of the late 70’s and early 80’s. Star Wars always tried to be one step ahead of everything else in case of visuals, but the gap between it and the other films got smaller and smaller. That is why the OT feels better visualy.
But that’s not mean that the OT is better looking than the PT or the ST. I think in the Disney era they really catched the aesthetics of star wars. Rouge one is probably the best example.
And visuals are not just about new ship designs, but all the new character costumes, the new aliens, the new locations…etc. And not just about the new stuff, but also using the old, giving us a look at the stuff we already know from a new, different perspective. Like that scene in TFA were the TIE fighters fly on Takodana in front of the sunset. Or the star destroyer in R1 above Jedha city, and the star destroyer in the storm in this trailer.
“but all the new character costumes, the new aliens”
I respectfully disagree here as well. Perfect example, the caretaker aliens on Luke’s island. Those costumes didn’t look convincing. They even screwed Yoda up. He looked off as well. Perhaps this was caused by that weird lighting around him that was quite dissimilar from the realistic force ghost halos seen in TESB/ROTJ.
All of this I attribute to Hollywood moving away from traditional costumes, puppets and makeup and towards CGI. Consequently these new guys simply lack the talents of their predecessors.
I did’t say that every desing was good. Yes some of the aliens look odd, and unconvincing, but that is exactly the case with the OT as well. Just look at some of the background characters in Jabba’s palace or in the cantina. And remember the creature in the special edition that walks past the camera right before the “these are not the droids you looking for” scene?
In my opinoin Yoda looked better in TLJ than in the PT, because they used a puppet not CGI. Yes the lightning was somehow weird but it wasn’t as bad imo.
I think you are somewhat right about cgi, but now in the new films the are using props and puppets more and more often, so aliens looks way better than in the PT, were almost all of them were cgi. I think the worst looking, least convincing alien in all star wars is form AotC: San Hill. But even the cgi is getting better and better. I think Snoke is a perfect example. He looked great in TLJ.
Well, now we know from who learned to say “Hey kid”. Cool.
Very Cool, Very Cool
Emilia Clarke looks very nice in this!
She looks very nice in everything.
Dare I say, she looks very nice in nothing!
Oh well…most certainly yes.
Could this be Sana Starros at 0:35 ???
No, it’s Thandie Newton, silly! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)
My toughts too.
bladesolo
Not sold on Alden, has an odd look to me, the movie looks like a nice adventure film, though.
Solo would be ok if it was a made for TV special. But for the big screen? Um, no. lol
Ummmm…. Remember the last “Made for TV” special?….. from 1978… lets not rehash that….
(That wasn’t the last made for TV special)
OMG Don’t bring up those Ewok Adventures… NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!1
No one can replace Harrison Ford as Han Solo.
Disney’s a fool for trying. This film is gonna tank.
Agreed, and I didn’t want this film at all. Thought it was so not needed. But after TLJ and it hurting my feelings a bit, this looks like it could at least let me enjoy the things that I Loved about SW.
I still have zero expectations for this film, which is a good thing. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised. But, it is going to be a hard sale for sure!
It wasn’t needed at all. Same for TFA/TLJ. Those two films have done nothing in terms of advancing the saga. If anything they’ve set it back it about a thousand light years.
I couldn’t agree more!
No ROSE = great movie. RUIN JOHNSON!!!!
LOL
They aren’t replacing him, lol. Do you know how movies work?
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8b63ec9bd9164ef2427466cbf76f4ef2fb037159ca9fbed91f21dd8dd8d6fc84.jpg
Far easier when you’re comparing a 30+ year old with a, what, 70+ year old.
This “new” Han looks almost the same age as Han from Star Wars. Not that it necessarily matters to me either way.
We can change A LOT in 10 years. From 20s to 30s, it’s even more noticeable.
But my logic is also this: the original actor (Ford) is old now. They need a new one. Simple. Like they needed Ewan to replace Alec. What’s the problem with that?
He isn’t being replaced. Are you dense?
Ah, that special moment a few months before a Star Wars movie comes out. When the trailer is released and most people are really excited. Before the movie comes out and half of the fans declare it to be the worst piece of dog crap they have ever seen! Enjoy this moment, my friends!
please don’t make me relive TLJ….
Been that way since 1980 buddy.
So true….pitifully
A film about the old republic (done the right way, of course) would be infinitely more interesting than watching greedy Di$ney try and squeeze more dollars out of the original trilogy.
Well, this movie happened to be the idea of greedy Luca$, so better get that right.
Also, the Old Republic? ZZZZZZZZZ
lol yes
I know it’s not going to happen, but if they can portray Han as an anti-hero, who runs scams, is too selfish to stick up for the little guy against the Empire, that would make his redemption in ANH have more weight. Much more than “Oh, that’s where *that* came from! Look, that’s where he met Chewie! That’s where he got the Falcon, and the dice! He said he has a bad feeling!”
Too much to ask, I know.
I’m feeling more optimistic now that I’ve heard him speak. One of my worst fears for this film was Alden trying to “do” Harrison’s voice and from the sound of it seems like that isn’t going to be the case at all. Might work better so that we aren’t nitpicking every word and just trying to enjoy his version instead. I’m trying here people…
Next up from Disney: Leonardo Dicaprio as Luke Skywalker CGI’d to look like Titantic Leonardo Dicaprio.
You are such an embarrassment to yourself.
Like a child in the candy store. He can’t stop himself.
I won’t even give a answer to a moron like that guy. He sure hate Star Wars.
Best policy.
Of course. Kids only want atention.
FLAMBE!!!!!
What would happen if Solo was released in say, 1985?
You know, back when Star Wars fans actually had standards.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7402aec9bdb662ff939b0bc4232b38755f1fbc18acc478240b222ad54c8f7ebb.gif
Reel it in buddy.
You’re doing the Lord’s work, yes, but less is more.
What would happen if you ever expressed a remotely intelligent and coherent thought? The world will never know.
I’m on board. Alden I think will make the character his own for this stage in his development, though of course no-one can truly replace Harrison Ford.
On a personal note I quite like the shiny look of the Falcon, ties in with the prequel era. I’m assuming the film is set 10 years before ANH, maybe a little less.
This trailer has lots of eye candy, sure, but I still have no clue what the story is. And Alden looks (to me) more like a grown-up Jake Lloyd. They even give the poor guy practically the same prequel-esque dialogue.
I’m being somewhat silly here, but so far, this oddly resembles an alternate universe sequel to “The Phantom Menace” where Anakin gets kicked out of the Academy (perhaps after Yoda catches him reading a book), and he disbands from the Force, changes his name to Han Solo, and goes back to his childhood passion of pod-racing. Plus, Woody Harrelson is around simply to be Woody Harrelson as usual, and Emilia Clarke is there to show us a much cooler-looking variation of Captain Marvel.
Seems like standard Disney to me, so far.
that would be a great script…or maybe it already is!!! lol
Lots of eye candy and scant plot reveals. Sounds like a teaser trailer to me.
Teaser trailers typically come out long in advance of a film. This calls itself a “teaser”, yes, but that ship has sailed. This is even past the time when you put out an actual trailer. It’s all semantics, but timing plays into it.
Perhaps this is a French tickler trailer?
Yoda catches him reading a book… hahahaha great!!!
Thank you! My sentiments exactly on the “more like a grown-up Jake Lloyd. They even give the poor guy practically the same prequel-esque dialogue” – I was waiting for Alden to shout “Yipee!” instead of “Yahoo!”
1:13 — yeah, the Falcon has a solid “nose” here, not the two mandibles.
If they still use the EU explanation…the forks were for moving freight. not sure if it will be retractable, but that would make sense.
https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/265278e5035b648c41f44f402f7f5a7aad22e3d4e79888e7397accac14d3a9f3.png
Did anyone bitch about this?
not arguing with you…but more than a little bit of a different scenario.
We were robbed a lifetime of incredible River Phoenix films — that’s something I’ll never stop (internally) bitching about.
You do realize 15 vs 40 is not the same as 24 vs 30, right?
Nope.
So now that the trailer is out, I’m curious of my brothers & sisters here in the Star Wars Sanitarium — If you’ve been compelled to see Star Wars films on opening night or opening weekend for the last two decades, is this the first film of the franchise that you just might wait out and watch at your own leisure?
Not standing in 2 hour lines for this, that’s for sure. Will see opening weekend, though.
Why not buy the ticket online and send it to your cellphone? Doing this last 15 years with no lines….
By lines I mean line my up on opening night to get the best seats.
you can´t choose your seat when buying the ticket??????? I mean, I go to the site of the multiplex I want to go, choose day, hour, the best seats, order…..and the ticket´s on my phone…to Imax I buy seats only to middle-middle of the hall.
Wow. That sounds great, but no, movie theaters were I live are all first come, first served in terms of seating.
I’m sorry, I didn’t know that. It has to be pretty stresful going to the movies….fighting for the seats…here in middle Europe countries (I live in Prague) you know your seat when you buy the ticket and online you have to choose and in front of the cinema they always ask you where you want to be.
With TFA, Rogue One, and TLJ I pre-ordered tickets at a local theater with reserved seating. Some buddies and I typically go eat and have a drink before showing up to the theater 10 minutes before the movie’s start.
I imagine we’ll do the same for Solo.
I skip the opening night and see it Friday morning, first show. Less crowded and cheaper.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I saw Rogue One the afternoon following opening night. My son had his school Christmas concert on opening night.
I always take the Friday off, which makes Star Wars even more of a holiday. Then I see it again the next day haha.
I can’t help myself,,,,it’s like a bad habit! I have to be there!
I will be there. I’m sure less people will be there after TLJ but this will be fun to watvh
Waiting for audience reviews, I don’t trust critics.
Not even Rottentomatoes?
Thats the one
I will be there… and then watch it again at my own leisure … until either work or my better half catch up with me.
I’ll be there on opening night. I’ve seen every Star Wars movie on opening night since Return of the Jedi. Even with the lackluster Prequels, being part of the cultural zeitgeist of opening night has always been a fun and exciting experience.
No, my first SW not at opening night was TLJ, saw it like on the 3rd day and wasnt that hyped to see it at the first possible opportunity.
I will probably wait on spoiler reviews / kinorip – dont want to repeat TLJ where i left the cinema pissed.
But from the trailers so far it might be good, for sure i like the speeder race scene already.
Snowflake has to pirate the movie first before spending money on it.
Charming as always, you are.
It looks way better than I was expecting. Thank you Ron howard. Hes a pretty good young solo. Was that Sana Starros? We still don’t have a clear idea who or what the villain is? That weird tribal bounty hunter thing? Also why the hell did they change the date. I thought it was supposed to be on the 25? Gonna release it on memorial Monday. I guess more people will see it if they have the day off.
I have a bad feeling about this!
He doesn’t sound, look, or even act like Han Solo…I can excuse sound/look to some extent…
So 2/3rds of your argument are void?
The primary comment is “the bad feeling” in general.
The sound/look/act part was after thought just on the actor alone.
Overall, I (personal opinion) am not impressed with Solo trailer, I fear it will suffer the same fate as VII and VIII in the story department.
I sure hope so. Those movies were fantastic.
Hmmm… some of those character designs are nice.
My problem with this film is that the Han Solo that we meet in ANH is a lazy scoundrel who only cares about money and doesn’t have very interesting motivations (which might be why Harrison Ford didn’t like him). In order to have a blockbuster-type, kid friendly hero, Disney is forced to write a likable character that “wants to be the best pilot in the Galaxy”.
I have no reason to hate a film that I haven’t seen, but that’s the feeling I get from what they’ve shown so far.
But Han always had that COCKY atitude. The difference is that he is younger, without that reputation of being a great pilot.
That anti-hero, egotistical persona, is in the trailer. Just watch it again. The line Emilia Clark says to him in the end…
He’s been running scams since he was 10….so…..
My problem with your comment is you expect someone to be static their entire life and not change.
How does this man become the Han we see?
Also, Disney wasn’t forced to write anything.
Kasdan, the writer of Empire, Jedi and Force Awakens, wrote this.
Noooooooooooo
Its a Star Wars movie for heavens sake! Just enjoy it!
Not possible anymore. Everything has to be personally tailored to my expectations, fulfill my outlandish fan theories, appeal to my nostalgia and rekindle my childhood, or else it’s the worst and most abominable thing ever created.
Not to mention, it needs to be just like the OT, but at the same time it has to be new and different!
It has to be fun but without any kind of joke or funny character, and must not violate any law of physics or physiology, but still be science fiction
so true
Most importantly we have to go to great lengths to delegitimize everything we don’t agree with. Because only your personal view can be correct.
Seriously… the lovers and haters have got to stop doing this.
Is that boba before he wears his dads armor? Or some other dude
Some other dude
Fingers crossed that this clears the bitter aftertaste of TLJ…. one can only hope!
Ehrenreich looks and sounds nothing like Han from the OT…
Aside from that it looks promising.
finally a good review
I saw a Twilek, so im happy with it
Bitch bitch bitch. Time to change the record. You do little other than whine here. If you don’t like any of this stuff, what in the world are you doing here?
If there is 15 years between Solo and ANH, that’s plenty of time to grime up a ship. The Falcon isn’t used to shuttle dignitaries around the galaxy. It’s a smuggler’s ship that’s probably been through over a decade of use and abuse in some of the roughest environments in the galaxy.
I’ve seen cars look worse that have less years on them than the Falcon does.
aaaah, sorry, I didn´t know Han is only 15 years old in this movie. He looks definitely older in the trailer, and Alden is 28, there came my mistake…but if you say so, it has to be true. I´ve read before that he will be 24, maybe things changed since, or maybe you are just full of xxxx and can´t come with a better argument so you invent stuff 🙂
I think it’s important to remember that Harrison Ford is a representation of Han Solo, but Han Solo isn’t necessarily a representation of Harrison Ford. Obviously everyone would love to see a young Harrison Ford play this role. Obviously, that’s an impossibility. Ford has done a great job with Solo. Seriously amazing. However, it’s a movie, a story-telling, that has aged far better than the actors who have held roles in the Saga. It’s a necessity.
Very good point
Please copy and paste this comment in all Solo-related discussions
Excellent point, man. Even so, I still really didn’t like Aiden’s line delivery. And note; I’m not the biggest Han Solo fan. So really, this hasn’t convinced me to see the movie on opening weekend.
Heck, if anything; I want a Lando movie. Glover’s smile, man; if that isn’t channeling Billy Dee Williams, then I don’t know what is.
You call yourself a Star Wars fan and don’t like Han Solo?
Kidding of course lol that’s the beauty of Star Wars man! There’s so much that’s gone into the SW universe, even if you don’t particularly enjoy a certain character or story line, there seems to be an infinite amount of other things to enjoy.
You know, you joke about that, but I cannot tell you how many people both online and real life look at me weirdly when I say that. But yeah; as someone who isn’t a fan of Han; I agree with you.
Because, fans often are clouded by biases and preconceptions. And Aiden I think is a great actor as I saw Hail Caesar and he was great in that. So truthfully; he could be better than what we’re seeing. But to be honest; I just didn’t like his line delivery at all.
But yeah; you are right. I see SWs fans gripping and moaning. Not that should be conflated with actual debate and discourse. But really; at this point; I could care less about that.
I choose to focus on the good SWs has given me. And yeah; I’m mixed on TLJ, but that hasn’t stopped by love of SWs. Legends plus the OT and PT will always be there and always be cool.
And nothing can take that away. 🙂 Because, Canon is what you make of it.
Totally understand that. There’s been a lot of name calling amongst fans who have differing opinions about TLJ (wasn’t a huge fan myself), this movie, and other things. It’s really pretty lame.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of the EU. Spent a lot of my childhood reading novels that took place during the Old Republic (Darth Bane series being my favorite). I finally started reading some of the New Republic/Galactic Alliance books shortly before Disney announced they would be doing away with the EU. After that I got away from the Legends books for awhile. Recently I started reading “The Fate of the Jedi” series, and man, am I loving it.
I don’t hate or dislike what Disney has done as whole by any means. The Tarkin novel was fantastic, and I loved R1. The Legends series has quite a few gems in it though as well.
Great mindset man and we think alike. I love the KOTOR/ TOR era of Legends. The Bane books are amazing and really; if Disney LF every wanted to capture me, doing a trilogy of movies inspired by Bane would be amazing. But really; it seems like they want to milk nostalgia.
They have every right to do so, of course. And people are entitled to enjoy or dislike it. But for me; it is disappointing as SWs should move past that. Legends you could argue pigeonholed itself with the ROTJ era stuff. And really, the PT and KOTOR eras helped it.
Hence, I wanted to see LF craft a new era/ stories. And so far TLJ; I just find it disappointing. Not awful in my view, but not great. But yeah; Disney LF has made me read Legends a lot more and appreciate that.
Maybe, LF can turn itself around after the ST but as of now; I have really little desire to see any of their new movies. And that’s okay; I will always love SWs. I just don’t need to love all of SWs.
KOTOR was amazing. Let’s forget about movies for a second and just imagine how great it would be if Disney had Bioware make a new open world RPG game reminiscent of the KOTOR series. They could set something like that at any point in the SW timeline, and I’d play it regardless. Also, I’d definitely LOVE to see more of Darth Bane. In any format really. A movie trilogy about his rise to being a Sith Lord would be amazing. (I hope you’re reading this Rian Johnson lol)
See, if more people could just look past the difference in opinions in regards to TLJ, etc., they’d probably see just how much they really have in common with other fans.
Absolutely, man! I’m cool with every fan, those loving everything Star Wars and those who love only Empire. It doesn’t matter what part of the universe makes you happy. Every one of us has its own personal canon. I never said to anyone You are dumb because you like this or hate that. Just enjoy what makes you happy and respect those with different opinion
For a moment there, I actually thought the Droid was Leebo. Wishful thinking I guess.
Someone down made a quick comparison picture and it was similar bu not the same.I like the Leebo desigh so hope its not and it also seems its Landos droid.
I liked this trailer less… not going to lie but it’s Alden’s fault. Hopefully I’ll get use to it as the movie goes on and forget about by the time it’s over. I mean it’s still very little to go on.
Yep. Said it way, way earlier, but the Superbowl teaser was better…and it’s entirely down to there being less Han in it. It’s only two minutes of footage obviously, but that’s not what you want a trailer to do.
This looks great! I love the “Western” vibe and the cast is on point. Alden is cool. I think Ford was quoted as he wants him to find his own interpretation of Solo. Great advice. I felt the movie needed a soundalike/lookalike of the iconic character, but this is going to make for a unique and rocking Star Wars Story. I’m looking forward to it.
Honestly, Aiden’s lines were cringeworthy to me. Note, I do not like Han Solo and was more than willing to give him a chance, but man; I do not like his voice.
Maybe, it will be better in the movie, but truthfully; that was the biggest turnoff for me. Heck, why couldn’t we have gotten a Lando movie? Donald Glover, just from that smile I know is going to kill it.
I think the whole cast is going to kill it. As for Alden’s voice, he’s fine. There will be enough nuance to get across that he’s Solo. The trailer gave me that impression, and I’m glad he’s not pushing it. Ford’s representation is his own, and he’s passed the torch to Alden. Also, who’s to say we won’t get a Lando film in the future? That would be cool, I agree.
I cannot say I agree. I hated Aiden’s voice and didn’t think there was any nuance. It was just diet Star-Lord. I’m well aware he’s pushing his own identity. Hence, why I avoided the comparisons to Ford. Not that I cared as I mentioned; I really do not like Han Solo as a character.
But really, I just felt absolutely nothing for this guy. I know Aiden is a good actor, but really as someone who isn’t emotionally connected to Han; I wasn’t impressed. If you are, cool. I’m glad. Just don’t expect me to see this on opening day.
As for a Lando film, assuming Glover will be great(which I think he will be), I’d be down. But really, even Glover isn’t enough for me to see this.
This movie should have been a Lando-focussed film, with Han as a minor character. Think about it – Lando is an established character, but we don’t have a ton of time or info on him in the movies. You can really go to town with his earlier days without worrying about fan service nonsense, or fighting against comparisons to Harrison Ford’s career-launching performance.
Hmm… this might be Disney’s first misstep with the franchise :/
I really like the music here. It’s so different, catchy and… hmmm… adventurous. After seeing the trailer multiple times I can honestly say that I like it more that I liked the one promoting TLJ. I had no expectations toward this Solo movie but now I’m slowly starting to feel that it might not be such a disaster as many people predict. We’ll see in a couple of months. 😉
SO AWESOME
I’m going to be upfront with everyone; I do not like Han Solo. I know gasp, but really much as I love Harrison Ford; I always found the character bland and my least favorite. If anyone wants more info, ask me down below. And really even before TLJ, I was apathetic towards this movie.
But really, I want to make it clear where I stand. That said, I thought the trailer was okay. Before anyone lynches me; I will outline the GOOD and the BAD.
GOOD
1) Production Value:
This goes without saying. This movie looks gorgeous. I dare say; it might be the best looking SWs film since RO. I thought TLJ overall looked great, but not as good as RO. And Ron Howard did a great job.
2) The smuggler stuff:
It seems like this that this movie borrows quite a bit from the AC Crispin books. Which I really dig. They are the only Han stuff of SWs I genuinely like outside ESB. Because, Han’s actual backstory in that was dope and it is nice to see this movie lifting from Legends.
3) Woody Harrelson and Donald Glover:
I do love Harrelson as an actor and he seems cool. I hope he is like Garris Shrike, but yeah I do love how he’s recruiting for a Smuggling job.
And Donald Glover. That smile; I know is superfical, but I knew he’d be perfect for Lando. Dam it, why couldn’t we have gotten a Lando film? Lando is so much cooler than Han in my view.
4) Final scene: It is cool that we’re seeing the actual Kessel Run, And I think that’s cool that we’ll be seeing this.
BAD
1) Emillia Clarke:
She sounds really bad. To be fair, I was never a fan of Clarke. I haven’t seen GOT, but every movie I have seen her in I haven’t liked her. And her line delivery sounded super flat.
2) Aiden Ehenreich:
I have nothing against this guy. I have seen him in hail Caesar and liked him there. But I’m going to say it: his line delivery was atrocious.
Sweet christmas it was bad. I get that Ford is hard to match, but really he comes off as someone trying to impersonate Harrison and comes off as diet Star-lord.
Yeah, I know that’s harsh, but really I found myself cringing. Hopefully, he is a lot better, much like Jyn Erso was in RO, but yeah; I’m not a fan.
And note; this is the guy who doesn’t care much for Han.
Verdict:
It seems okay. The movie hasn’t convinced me to see it at opening night. Maybe, a matinee showing, but really I wasn’t that excited beforehand. And I’m definitely not excited now.
“I dare say; it might be the best looking SWs film since RO”, great statement Bayakuya.
I hope you are not being smarmy. Assuming you are not, really; my statement should have said, best “Disney LF era SWs film”. I still think ESB is the best looking movie of the franchise. But really I was judging the new batch of movies.
Not at all being smarmy. I agreed with your statement. All good. It looks like awesome production design. Your right- ESB looks great as well. Cheers.
Thanks. Sorry for being jaded, but really it can be hard to tell online given the lack of voice. Though, if I usually can tell; I usually replace the person’s voice with a whiny Cartman from South Park which is hilarious.
Overall, thank you for being a nice person and non-combative. It is rare to find people like that nowadays.
Right on, and thanks for the reply and good thoughts.
I didn’t get ‘guy doing a bad HF impersonation’. I’m not exactly sure what he’s decided to go for though, and I can’t help but wonder if this kind of thing is what prompted the hiring of the acting coach late in the game on this film.
It’s not Han Solo, he doesn’t sound the same, his parting is an inch too far to the left, he holds the Falcon steering wheel in totally the wrong way, can’t they get Harrison to dub his voice over Alden’s (I really saw that comment..), the Falcon was never that clean… this is Lando’s movie, he looks soooo cool in the three silent shots we’ve seen of him, even better than that Billy Bob Thornton dude who played him in Empire… I think… Also, I’m not going to watch this movie, but I’ve seen this trailer like a thousand times and I hate it!
Welcome to Star Wars fandom.
To be completely fair, the more I think about it, the more I’m convinced this movie would have been a better idea pitched as a Lando film with Han appearing as a minor supporting character.
I know I’d actually be interested in a Lando movie. It just seems so ridiculous to me that after they give Han Solo a tragic send-off and complete his story arc they felt the need to recast the character and do some origin movie? wtf were they thinking?
Why choose?

Solo: a fifth element story looks awful guys. He doesn’t sound like Han, we got a “release the kraken” and the “we are putting a team together” spiel. I miss the days when star wars set the trends, not the other way around (even though nothing could touch star wars in the 80’s). I hate to say it, but they were right. Disney killed star wars.
Star Wars was killed three times over from 99-05. We’re finally getting competently made films again.
It still amazes me that people can focus only the negatives on the prequels, and ignore their many positives, but focus only on the positives of the new films, and ignore their negatives.
I have all enjoyed the SW films, but I prefer the prequels to Episodes 7 and 8.
However, I wish someone could bring balance to the discussion every now and then.
Looks amazing to me so far! Can’t wait to see this cast work together! I’m seeing a lot of complaints from people saying that Alden doesn’t sound like Harrison Ford. I don’t believe he needs to sound like Harrison Ford I believe he needs to be the scoundrel pilot smuggler that we all know to be Han Solo. If they pull that off, our brains will tell us that it’s Han Solo. There’s no way we’re going to get Harrison Ford unless they do a motion cap Han Solo!
