UPDATE! Disney Officially Lists The Force Awakens Blu-Ray for an April 5 Release in the US! Target’s Exclusive Cover Revealed!

Target Exclusive Cover

After numerous reports and conflicting dates in different regions, we finally have a confirmation on the release date of The Force Awakens Blu-ray in the US. Also Target revealed the cover for their exclusive TFA release.

Disney officially listed the movie on the online Disney Store for an April 5 release date.

If you pre-order the movie, which is listed as a Blu-ray Combo Pack by April 4, 2016 you will receive an exclusive lithograph set, while supplies last. The price is $25. The combo pack is listed to include a Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD copy. There are no special features mentioned for this release, but things could change after the official announcement, which we are hearing is happening later today.

The guys from StitchKingdom made further investigation and pointed out that Disney has updated TFA graphic on their official page, adding not only the April 5 date for the Blu-ray release, but also April 1, 2016 for a digital HD release.

So as you can see, there is not much info here, but at least we have a confirmed date. We just have to wait a few more hours for the official announcement later today, which also happens to be Disney’s annual shareholder meeting, held in Chicago and scheduled to start at 11 am ET/8 am PST.

Stay tuned…

Thanks to Grant Goble for the heads up.

April the fifth be with you!

  • March 3, 2016 at 2:21 pm

Better for Disney to be a worldwide release. Everyday delayed in the rest of the world will be thousands of people downloading the film in fullHD

  • March 3, 2016 at 2:27 pm

    I’m buying it on Vudu.

  • March 3, 2016 at 2:38 pm

I’m not the one that usually complains about disney, but since disney bought lucasfilm it’s like non-us fans are unimportant, and we don’t get many limited things…

    • March 3, 2016 at 3:02 pm

Your got the movie before we did.

      • March 3, 2016 at 3:23 pm

        By 3 whole days. Meh.

      • March 3, 2016 at 3:29 pm

        That’s the only thing.

        • March 3, 2016 at 9:55 pm

That was a huge thing! Three days was torture for me, and my friends.

        • March 3, 2016 at 11:52 pm

          Pretty big thing.

  • March 3, 2016 at 2:44 pm

the cover is TERRIBLE. F*cking terrible. Those posters were great as standalone images (they look pretty good in the interior of the packaging) but putting them together with those damn lines?? There’s nothing special about it, nothing Star Wars, it’s like a kid has put together some Random photos to cover his school folder.

Who the hell is designing this? Why fans produce way better designs??

And if they are that lazy, why not using the Imax poster with Rey and BB8.

    • March 3, 2016 at 3:22 pm

      I think it looks fine.

      • March 3, 2016 at 4:44 pm

It should look awesome for the film it represents and the money they got with it, but IMO it’s not even fine. Those posters were created as standalone images and they have been poorly used. They recycled art using the easiest technique (photo composite) in a product that doesn’t work at all.

        • March 3, 2016 at 4:46 pm

Most people are not gonna say. Oh I don’t like the cover art, so I’m not buying the movie. Geez.

        • March 3, 2016 at 9:54 pm

You’re really going to get all bent out of shape over a stupid cover..? If you really hate it so much, why don’t you just make your own?

          • March 4, 2016 at 12:08 am

Because I want a great artist to do it for the product I’m going to pay.

          • March 4, 2016 at 2:23 pm

No where in the world do consumers believe that they are entitled to have who they deem as a great artist or great artwork on their movie covers, and if they do they end up making their own. You’re not the one in charge of making these things, and if you feel that you should be then go apply for that job.
The decision on the artwork lies entirely up to the people who produce the DVDs and Blu-Ray versions of the movies.

Do you believe that when you pay for a burger that the wrapping needs to have great artwork on it? Or how about the box artwork for a new DVD player? Or how about the artwork on the toilet paper I’m going to flush down the toilet? Do you get upset over the artwork on video game purchases or band’s album decisions?

I’m just saying, these are petty complaints for something that doesn’t matter in the long run.
Just accept them for what they are, you’re not going to change anything by whining about it.

    • March 3, 2016 at 4:03 pm

packaging…a blight on the modern world.

    • March 3, 2016 at 4:40 pm

Why does it matter? I want the movie not the damned cover and if they used what u put some would complain about it too.

      • March 3, 2016 at 4:49 pm

        Why does it matter?

You’re going to spend some bugs on it isn’t it? Probably you have the whole saga in different editions depending on your age. It’s not a bigmac menu is an artistic product many people engages. I’m not saying any of the art I’ve shared in my initial post is the right for the bluray cover, but those pieces have much more power than this and the artists have certainly spent more time than Bob Iger’s nephew working on it.

        • March 3, 2016 at 4:52 pm

Well submit the designs to Disney and see where that goes. I’ll be spending 20 bucks on it for the movie and extras. If I want posters and cover art I’ll choose my own. As I said it’s all subjective on what is good and bad. If they put one of those you wanted, someone would bitch how horrible they were on some message board somewhere like you just did. Since when did any of this stuff please 100 percent of the people? It never will.

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:06 pm

Not about pleasing all the people, but at least doing something decent, like the Imax Poster. Oh, wait… No. Not the Imax poster… That’s too much of a girl alone! Fortunately we’ve got KKennedy in LFL because without her, this would be a ruin.

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:07 pm

Imax poster could be said to be just as lazy. as simple as it was.

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:11 pm

Imax poster has much more touch than this kid montage. Imax poster tells you who’s the main character, explains Rey is starting a journey, explains it’s StarWars, explains it’s a new beginning, explains is old-fashioned, yet you’ve never seen a leading girl and a ball-droid in the StarWars saga.

You confuse simple with lazy which has nothing to do, but let’s not waste our time both of us. You don’t care about the cover, that’s it, why even comment about it then?

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:13 pm

They could put it in a black or white sleave with SW on it. Plus the Target slipcover is not the only cover. I’m sure they know about marketing and what sells better than any of us.

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:33 pm

Oh boy. Yes it’s up you to decide who the sheep and CONSUMERS are. Some call us CONSUME sheep people for liking any part of SW at all.

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:34 pm

I’ve come here to kick ass and chew bubblegum…and I’m all out of bubblegum.

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:09 pm

I don’t give a damn about seeing merchandise. There has been merch I like and don’t care for with all the movies, even the originals in the late 70s and 80s. I buy what I want and leave the rest.

  • March 3, 2016 at 3:06 pm

Exclusive content? Well, that’s total bullshit.

  • March 3, 2016 at 3:08 pm

    Anytime, thanks for the props!!!

  • March 3, 2016 at 3:45 pm

    terribe cover

    • March 3, 2016 at 4:02 pm

      of course it is….but why?

      • March 3, 2016 at 4:39 pm

I don’t give two shits about the what the cover looks like. Probably a slipcover anyway. Why must we approve of everything? I just want the movie and the extras.

        • March 3, 2016 at 4:53 pm

          Because it has always mattered.

          • March 3, 2016 at 6:59 pm

I have that book and many others. I am just saying a damned cover of a DVD is just one thing. I welcome all art everywhere, fan and not. People complained about the prequel Struzan posters and even the one he did for the Expo last fall. Some people will complain no matter what they do.

          • March 3, 2016 at 7:15 pm

Am I one of those? I’ve just gave a constructive, personal opinion about a cover that is horrible.

  • March 3, 2016 at 4:03 pm

I usually don’t care about this crap but that cover is mega lame. I like the concept but idk it just doesn’t work. And the interior with all of the photoshopped Empire stuff was a bizarre choice. Why not a cool landscape shot of Maz’s castle? Or Starkiller Base? Or like anything else?

    • March 3, 2016 at 4:38 pm

      slip cover slipcover

  • March 3, 2016 at 4:07 pm

Not a fan of that cover anyway but BB-8 looks so out of place on it. Very disappointing that the release date isn’t the same worldwide!

  • March 3, 2016 at 4:15 pm

Rather disappointing that there is no sign of a 3D version. I guess I have to wait for the super ultra special platinum edition.

    • March 3, 2016 at 4:35 pm

      2022 Here I come!

  • March 3, 2016 at 4:42 pm

The only thing that kinda blows is that Target is only in the US now. As quickly as they invaded Canada, a few months later they pulled out of the Canadian market faster than a nerfherder with the stomach flu. So no extra 20 mins for anyone outside the US???

    • March 3, 2016 at 4:45 pm

It may be stuff that is already on youtube or seen elsewhere and if not it will end up on youtube.

    • March 3, 2016 at 4:52 pm

yup. Marketing since Disney bought LFL does that.

  • March 3, 2016 at 5:02 pm

I just want the original artwork. Is that too much to ask? The Original Trilogy haven’t had decent artwork since 1993. This Photoshop hack jobs they keep releasing suck. The 1996 THX editions sucked, the Special Editons weren’t great, the DVD’s sucked and so did the BluRay. I just want a set that has original theatrical artwork.

  • March 3, 2016 at 5:18 pm

don’t like the blu cover ? just get custom made covers, the net is full with way cooler stuff . i love how small companies like Kino Lorber release their blu rays with the original poster art or that others like Scream Factory or Arrow Video have reversible covers where u can choose between original or brand new artwork. but don’t expect this from Disney, Universal, Fox… Photoshop crap all the way…

    • March 3, 2016 at 7:01 pm

      Exactly. Make you own.

    • March 3, 2016 at 9:22 pm

How beautiful is that original Empire artwork!

Pretty cool trailer. I don’t like that trailer voice though, he extends his E’s too much, it’s a little weird and annoying. I’ve heard him on other trailers too. Apart from that, nice trailer. Can’t wait.

    • March 3, 2016 at 9:21 pm

“Note: The 3D version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be available later this year.”

That’s going to upset a lot of people, having to buy it a 2nd time if you’re a fan of 3D.

  • March 3, 2016 at 9:26 pm

I just received an email from Amazon UK.

Disney, the creators of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, are offering customers who purchase the Bonus Disc version of this title, a limited edition sleeve for their Blu-ray. There are two limited edition sleeves available.

We wanted to let you know that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Bonus Disc version you pre-ordered will come with a Dark Side sleeve. If you’d prefer to receive a Light Side sleeve, you’ll need to place a new order using the link below.”

Nice! I’ll stick with the dark I think. Wonder what they look like?

  • March 3, 2016 at 11:56 pm

    I’m getting the TARGET’ version

  • March 4, 2016 at 12:21 am

  • March 4, 2016 at 4:43 am

Now I want the target version but i want the best buy steel book so i can match it with the new steel books we recently got f it I’ll buy both

    • March 4, 2016 at 6:44 am

I’ll just buy all of it and forfeit next month’s paycheck. Besides, who needs to eat anymore?

  • March 4, 2016 at 5:16 am

Are we not going to talk about the disgusting marketing ploy of exclusivity?
