After numerous reports and conflicting dates in different regions, we finally have a confirmation on the release date of The Force Awakens Blu-ray in the US. Also Target revealed the cover for their exclusive TFA release.

Disney officially listed the movie on the online Disney Store for an April 5 release date.

If you pre-order the movie, which is listed as a Blu-ray Combo Pack by April 4, 2016 you will receive an exclusive lithograph set, while supplies last. The price is $25. The combo pack is listed to include a Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD copy. There are no special features mentioned for this release, but things could change after the official announcement, which we are hearing is happening later today.

The guys from StitchKingdom made further investigation and pointed out that Disney has updated TFA graphic on their official page, adding not only the April 5 date for the Blu-ray release, but also April 1, 2016 for a digital HD release.

So as you can see, there is not much info here, but at least we have a confirmed date. We just have to wait a few more hours for the official announcement later today, which also happens to be Disney’s annual shareholder meeting, held in Chicago and scheduled to start at 11 am ET/8 am PST.

Stay tuned…

Thanks to Grant Goble for the heads up.

the cover is TERRIBLE. F*cking terrible. Those posters were great as standalone images (they look pretty good in the interior of the packaging) but putting them together with those damn lines?? There’s nothing special about it, nothing Star Wars, it’s like a kid has put together some Random photos to cover his school folder.

Who the hell is designing this? Why fans produce way better designs??

And if they are that lazy, why not using the Imax poster with Rey and BB8.

It should look awesome for the film it represents and the money they got with it, but IMO it’s not even fine. Those posters were created as standalone images and they have been poorly used. They recycled art using the easiest technique (photo composite) in a product that doesn’t work at all.

Most people are not gonna say. Oh I don’t like the cover art, so I’m not buying the movie. Geez.

You’re really going to get all bent out of shape over a stupid cover..? If you really hate it so much, why don’t you just make your own?

Because I want a great artist to do it for the product I’m going to pay.

No where in the world do consumers believe that they are entitled to have who they deem as a great artist or great artwork on their movie covers, and if they do they end up making their own. You’re not the one in charge of making these things, and if you feel that you should be then go apply for that job.
The decision on the artwork lies entirely up to the people who produce the DVDs and Blu-Ray versions of the movies.

Do you believe that when you pay for a burger that the wrapping needs to have great artwork on it? Or how about the box artwork for a new DVD player? Or how about the artwork on the toilet paper I’m going to flush down the toilet? Do you get upset over the artwork on video game purchases or band’s album decisions?

I’m just saying, these are petty complaints for something that doesn’t matter in the long run.
Just accept them for what they are, you’re not going to change anything by whining about it.

        Why does it matter?

You’re going to spend some bugs on it isn’t it? Probably you have the whole saga in different editions depending on your age. It’s not a bigmac menu is an artistic product many people engages. I’m not saying any of the art I’ve shared in my initial post is the right for the bluray cover, but those pieces have much more power than this and the artists have certainly spent more time than Bob Iger’s nephew working on it.

Well submit the designs to Disney and see where that goes. I’ll be spending 20 bucks on it for the movie and extras. If I want posters and cover art I’ll choose my own. As I said it’s all subjective on what is good and bad. If they put one of those you wanted, someone would bitch how horrible they were on some message board somewhere like you just did. Since when did any of this stuff please 100 percent of the people? It never will.

Not about pleasing all the people, but at least doing something decent, like the Imax Poster. Oh, wait… No. Not the Imax poster… That’s too much of a girl alone! Fortunately we’ve got KKennedy in LFL because without her, this would be a ruin.

Imax poster could be said to be just as lazy. as simple as it was.

          • March 3, 2016 at 5:11 pm
            Permalink

Imax poster has much more touch than this kid montage. Imax poster tells you who’s the main character, explains Rey is starting a journey, explains it’s StarWars, explains it’s a new beginning, explains is old-fashioned, yet you’ve never seen a leading girl and a ball-droid in the StarWars saga.

You confuse simple with lazy which has nothing to do, but let’s not waste our time both of us. You don’t care about the cover, that’s it, why even comment about it then?

I just want the original artwork. Is that too much to ask? The Original Trilogy haven’t had decent artwork since 1993. This Photoshop hack jobs they keep releasing suck. The 1996 THX editions sucked, the Special Editons weren’t great, the DVD’s sucked and so did the BluRay. I just want a set that has original theatrical artwork.

don’t like the blu cover ? just get custom made covers, the net is full with way cooler stuff . i love how small companies like Kino Lorber release their blu rays with the original poster art or that others like Scream Factory or Arrow Video have reversible covers where u can choose between original or brand new artwork. but don’t expect this from Disney, Universal, Fox… Photoshop crap all the way…

We wanted to let you know that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Bonus Disc version you pre-ordered will come with a Dark Side sleeve. If you’d prefer to receive a Light Side sleeve, you’ll need to place a new order using the link below.”
