A Brief Description of a Rogue One Footage, Shown at Disney’s Shareholder Meeting!

rogue-one-title-treatment-1024x357

As we already know earlier today Disney had a shareholder meeting in Chicago where Bob Iger and company discussed the financial results for the year. He also announced the Blu-ray release date and interestingly showed a brief footage from Rogue One…

/Film is reporting that before Iger showed the Rogue One video, he briefly described what the movie is about, confirming that it takes place immediately before A New Hope.

One of /Film’s readers was at the event and made a brief description of the footage that has been shown:

Most of it was very quick. A shot of the black stormtrooper, possibly called Death Troopers as previously reported, another pic of that same style of helmet and armor but all chrome, reminiscent of Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens, an image showed two AT-ATs that had a slightly different look with the door panel on the side of the body painted a lighter beige color. And a couple cast photos were shown, one of Felicity & Diego Luna and another of Donnie Yen. The clip featured Felicity’s character on what looked like the inside of a ship or shuttle with her arm up holding on and the hatch/ramp open behind her. I wish I could remember what she said as part of the sizzle but it went by too fast. The new stormtroopers looked great.

This sounds really cool. We can’t wait to find out more about this movie. As I mentioned earlier, the real promo campaign for Rogue One will probably start in April, after The Force Awakens has ended its theatrical run, and after it’s been released on Blu-Ray/DVD. So pretty soon things we get really interesting.

I agree with Nate. I think he’ll be in the first teaser. They want people talking about this. The general public won’t understand the timeline at first. But do they understand Darth Vader.

I don’t get the deal with Snowtroopers. It’s like do they wait around for years waiting for an opportunity to fight on an ice-world? Surely they’re just regular stormtroopers outfitted for the occasion. While I’m on it, what’s the deal with snowspeeders? Can they only fly over snow?

Actually, they weren’t designed for snow. In Empire, they even say “we are having trouble adapting them to the cold”. T-47 Airspeeders are in the Battlefront Game on multiple planets other than Hoth as well.

Yeah I would wonder where this elite group of stormtroopers were when the shield generator needed protecting on he forest moon of Endor. Maybe they get wiped out? Maybe the Emperor realizes that they were a mistake. Maybe they are a squad of clone troopers or something. Point is that I have faith in the story group that they are aware of the situation and will wrap things up nicely.

Palpatine was convinced an entire legion of stormtroopers and scouts was adequate to defend Endor, he was counted on the Rebels being overmatched and outnumbered no many how many troops Mon Mothma sent to the forest moon. The Empire was aware of the Ewoks from their surveys of the sanctuary moon but they had already discounted them as any sort of threat to the shield generator.

Shadow Troopers are supposed to be in the “shadows” Their armor even has a “cloaking device” with “stealth benefits” that rendered them almost invisible. They do clandestine missions that are almost never known. Their covert activities are not disclosed publicly. They surreptitiously do these accomplishments unknown even to the ranks of the Empire. They report directly to the head of Imperial Intelligence.

You know, I grudgingly am starting to get excited for this movie. Possibly more than E8 even. Lower budget = less studio control = more risks and a dirtier, less polished finished film. Yeah, I could get excited for this thing.

    • March 4, 2016 at 9:51 am
      Permalink

The thing that excites me the most about this film is the fact that it is one complete story and they are treating it as such, they aren’t deliberately slowing these characters down for development like they would for the trilogy films…instead they just immerse us completely! And the fact that it is taking cues from Saving Private Ryan has me squealing like a little kid.

In this day and age I think its fair to say that we usually see the trailers online now, the first look before feature films era has passed for the most part. I’m pretty certain we’ll be receiving the teaser by mid April. And for sure you’re right that it’ll be played in front of Civil War. Either that or I can imagine they want to hold back and probably promote Jungle Book first. Then they can just throw it in front of that film cuz realistically those other films are going to need more of a marketing push as opposed to R1.

A chrome trooper that looks like Phasma? I thought Disney wanted to avoid average moviegoers from thinking that this is a sequel to TFA….

I’m a little concerned on the need for new troopers all the time. Don’t mind seeing a new specialised one introduced on occasion, but the uniformity of the Stormtroopers brought about the faceless nature of the Empire’s oppression.

no really. disney just gets the money, LFL does autonomously their decisions…

        • March 4, 2016 at 4:37 pm
          Permalink

That’s simply not true. First off, Lucasfilm retains a great deal more autonomy than your comments suggest. Second, having a few new, specialized troops and a slight variation on the AT-AT hardly constitutes a reboot. People are really playing fast and loose with what exactly a reboot is. A reboot replaces original content. What’s going on with Star Wars is probably better labeled a relaunch.

Every single SW movie has introduced a new type of trooper. Why should R1 be any different?
        ANH: Stormtroopers
        ESB: Snowtroopers
        RotJ: Scout troopers
        TPM: Battle droids
        AotC: Clone troopers
RotS: Clone commanders and specialized clones

Yes in the context of minor modifications, Sandtroopers and Scout Troops, but now we’re talking different colour schemes. Don’t get me wrong the Death/Shadow Trooper is a nice nod to the EU of old, but why not leave it at that.

        • March 4, 2016 at 7:10 pm
          Permalink

Also I thought Snowtroopers and Sandtroopers were basically Stormtroopers wearing modified suits for the conditions. It could be the same for the new suits, but like I said introducing one is good, two or more is overkill.
