Hmmm, not sure the break neck editing in the second half was award-worthy (and I love the film).
Yeah, Whatever someone feels about this film. I think the score and editing are clearly the two weakest aspects by far.
I like the score the more I hear it, but I think its the sound mixing that hurts it more than it should. Weird. Where’s Ben Burtt? PAY DAT MAN!
My guess is he was too busy with other projects. Seems to be more into editing now but I didn’t think he did that great of a job in II.
The sonic blasts and the arena creatures were genius. Burtt sculpted massive off-screen worlds in every environment (just think about the Coruscant chase) in II, so despite how one feels about the movie, I think his sound design was still spectacular (now, his film EDITING on the other hand…..). TFA just did a plug-and-play of the SW audio archives greatest hits – no new Chewie, no new R2, no new ships, forgettable weapons and audio-sterile environments. Bleah.
Yeah, He totally blew it here for sure. I never really thought about it till just now but there were no cool sound driven scenes like you just described. Just remixed background noise.
The Force Awakens just clinched another award nomination today frim the Art Directors Guild.
We are waiting now for the big ones (DGA, PGA, SGA, BAFTA), If TFA gets at least two nods out of he above, it has a great chance to squeeze in a Best Picture Oscar nomination, Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Best Picture is not happening. If they give a token sci-fi/fantasy nomination out then it’s going to Fury Road or The Martian.
TFA just missed on a PGA nomination. Both Fury Road and The Martian were nominated though, so you are probably right. My last hope is a possible DGA nomonation , but it is again a long shot.
Guess we’ll see. It could be The Return Of The King of 2016 but how often do you hear a sixth sequel sweeping any awards show?
The editing during the climax of the film was probably the worst of any of the seven episodes, This is totally a sympathy vote. I’ve seen all the other nominees and they are far more deserving in this area.
Not Tomorrowland – other than that one long shot, bleh. That movie takes an eternity to really get going.
I missed the production design one and meant the sound editing but I agree.
