I like it when Justin Bolger drops by. He is a knowledgeable fan and I enjoy hearing his thoughts.

Yes, Justin was terrific. I agreed with all of his points in fact. His point about Phasma was spot on – only difference is Phasma in the movie has very little screen time or development, but her role within the world of the movie itself is similar to Darth Vader’s henchman role in ANH.
Hopefully Phasma will be more regal, and menacing ( and have more of a developed presence in Episode 8 ).

Phasma disappointed because of people’s expectations, and not because the film itself promised that here role would be major – which it didn’t.

Please have Justin as a guest more often, he makes a valuable contribution each time, and offers a different outlook to the hosts.

The Visual Guide says she’s a master of hand to hand combat and crackshot yet gave up the ship to a senior citizen as well as a sanitation worker barely out of his teens.

Phasma and Vader couldn’t possibly be any more different. Vader was introduced as a credible threat: murdering Captain Antilles with his bare hand (so to speak), torturing Leia, force choking fools, cutting down Obi-Wan in front of Luke, leading a tie assault taking out multiple Rebel fighters. Not to mention the fact that he was established to be the guy who killed our heroe’s father.

What on earth did Phasma actually do in this movie? What are her motivations? She’s this movie franchise’s first female antagonist and she stands in the background, wearing a pretty outfit and doing what her male counterparts tell her. In the same movie with a sensational female lead in Rey, this is pretty embarrassing IMO. Nowhere close to comparable to Vader in ANH.

She’s more akin to Boba Fett – A marketing creation to sell toys.

Mock outrage: Literally ‘objectifying’ a woman?! I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s actually a deleted scene with Hux asking her to get him a cup of caf.

Seriously though, what a waste of a terrific actress.

Phasma wasn’t even supposed to be in the movie.

Her armor was originally a concept for Kylo Ren. Someone illustrated the design for Kaplan, and he loved it and hung it on his wall. Then Kathleen Kennedy and JJ saw it, thought it was fantastic, and had a part written for her LAST MINUTE.

And anyway, why the heck does it have to be about gender all the time. She’s a CHARACTER. She has FAULTS. Just like every other good character does, male or female.

And also, why are you comparing a B-villain to the second most prominent character of the OT? Apples and oranges.

It would be great if gender wasn’t an issue. But the lack of diversity in this series has always been a major criticism. Ignoring that is intellectually dishonest.

Ventress withstanding, she’s our first big screen female bad guy and Gwendoline Christie is a tremendous talent. It’s a disappointment of wasted potential. Maybe she’ll be outstanding in Ep8, but you only get one chance to make a first impression 🙂

The Vader comparison is being made because Justin Bolger (the guest) made the explicit equivalence. I disagree with his opinion.

Yeah, It’s not like she was a model with no onscreen fighting experience. She should have fought Finn rather than TR-8R.

I DO agree with that 100%.

I’m okay with them not taking her helmet off if she is the new Fett but I’d much rather see her go the bounty hunter route like Ventress in TCW in the next one or be a Resistance mole rather than another First Order lackey who gets killed off for no reason.

“You have no idea what you are doing” makes me think she gave it up on purpose and could salvage the character if she was undercover and answered only to Leia.

We better get better dogfights in Rogue One than we saw in TFA. Not much to ask but we really haven’t gotten any standout ones in the films since 1983.
