Every time I see one of the new pics of Chewie, the first detail I notice is that little mustache-like area right under his nose. Adds a touch of refinement to a picture of beast, like he’d write a book entitled “A Study of the Psychological Catharsis of Ripping off the Arms of One’s Enemies, and Its Intercultural Implications”. Sorry, that was really weird

Finn gets his ass whooped in that scene with the Stormtrooper. The last attack he blocked knocks him down, I hope hes just developing slower than Rey and will gradually get better throughout the next few films, because it would be lame if he was truly “misdirection” and they actually punk his character out in this movie. It just wouldn’t be shocking. I’m really hoping our two new leads are future Jedi. I cringe at the thought of “The last Jedi” being passed down from Luke to Rey, the Star Wars universe would feel incredibly small to me by the end of The Force Awakens if thats the direction they go in. I want to see a few force users.

    • December 9, 2015 at 12:22 pm

My bet is that Finn will be more or less equal to the stormtrooper, but he will get served a can of whoop ass when he meets Kylo in the forest.
The fact that he is drawn to the lightsaber, makes me think that he is Force sensitive. I get what your saying. It would be better if there would be more Jedi besides the Skywalker clan. Lets see how this evolves. By the way, did you also notice that the word ‘Sith’ is actually never mentioned? They are only talking about the Dark Side, which means, i.m.h.o., that they can break with the one master, one apprentice rule.

The one master one apprentice rule was introduced by Darth Bane so it can be broken by Sith themselves. I hope they don’t get rid of the Sith.

The Sith are gone. They ended, as well as their rule of two, when Darth Vader killed Palpatine. Unless Snoke is Plagueis *sp* there are no more dark side users with the full knowledge of the Sith ways.

What if Finn picking up a lightsaber to battle against Kylo Ren is a testament to his bravery. A non-force user facing a much stronger adversary. Would take a hell of a lot of courage for someone to do such an act.

      • December 9, 2015 at 5:04 pm
        Permalink

Luke was a force user, with a nearly complete formation, want he face Vader for the first time, it was a testament to is bravery. Finn is Force sensitive, I’m standing strongly is this team, not a Jedi, you have to be trained by a Jedi master to be one, and their just one left and seems that nobody know where he is. But like Maz Kanata, who seems to give the lightsaber to Finn, if I have the choice between to Force sensitive, a scavenger who learn by herself how to take care of her or train warrior, since is childhood, I will probably put my money on the soldier. Finn is not brave to face Kylo Ren, because is a normal don’t have Force, but because he know how this guy is crazy and dangerous, like he said to Rey, you have know idea what I have seen. And, yes he will probably pay for his bravery, and I’m sure, that if the warrior cannot handle the bad guy, the scavenger cannot to, even if she’s presumably Luke’s daughter (personally I don’t believe that). Being GSP daughter, don’t made you a kick ass MMA fighter without a training. The only logical way they can manage to stay alive from this encounter, that because someone will come to their rescue, my bet, Master Skywalker.

        • December 9, 2015 at 5:42 pm
          Permalink

Luke was brave, but he was also reckless, impatient and stupid to rush off to face Vader like that. Plus his training was not nearly complete. Hence Yoda’s and Obi-Wan’s warnings and the price he paid in Cloud City…just like the price Finn might pay for daring to challenge Kylo Ren.

Luke coming to the rescue would only work if the audience knows what he’s been up to all along. If he’s nowhere to be found at that point, as rumor suggests, his sudden appearance to save the young heroes right at the nick of time could be one of the lamest scenes in film history.

I agree with you that Rey isn’t ready to face Kylo either, but If she’s Force-sensitive, she could use the Force on instinct to create a diversion that helps slow down Kylo long enough for her and Finn to escape or to be rescued. Remember the film’s title. I bet the Force Awakens refers to the Force awakening in Rey and/or Finn.

          • December 9, 2015 at 5:56 pm
            Permalink

I think the Force Awakens refers to Rey. We hear Snoke say “There’s been an awakening, have you felt it?”. This reference is most likely between Snoke and Kylo Ren (both of whom are force strong). Perhaps the trigger for this awakening was BB-8 entering Rey’s life and putting all the events we will see in the movie into motion.

          • December 9, 2015 at 6:02 pm
            Permalink

The Snoke line has kept me wondering if an “awakening” is a different thing to a disturbance in the Force or just another way to put it. Either way, I also believe that Rey will be the “Awakened One” while Finn and Poe will be the ST’s Han and Lando: really courageous and valuable, non-Force sensitive heroes.

I just included Finn as a potential Force user too, because we’ve obviously haven’t watched the film yet. So anything is possible at this point.

          • December 9, 2015 at 6:11 pm
            Permalink

That’s a good point. A disturbance to me implies the dark side, perhaps an imbalance in their favour. Whilst an awakening suggest the return of the light side. It’s as if Luke’s exile has caused the light side to be diminished.

          • December 9, 2015 at 8:10 pm
            Permalink

Yeah, that could definitely be it. Snoke’s warning to Kylo about an Awakening in the Force, and that this will be “a test that not even you have faced”, could be the same as Palpatine’s warning to Vader about Luke in TESB.

          • December 9, 2015 at 6:30 pm
            Permalink

I really think, that the film’s title give us big clue about some of the rumors veracity. To be awaken the Force has to be sleeping. And if the Force was sleeping, Luke probably never have the chance to recreate the Jedi Order, Temple, train new Jedi, like many assume, mostly because of the EU novel. The so called flashback of the Knight of Ren attacking the Jedi Academy and forcing Luke to exile, I’m personally don’t buy it, maybe I see Master Luke stronger than he really become, but I’m pretty confident he can handle a bunch of Darth Vader’s cheerleader.

Other point, it not because that for most of the character in the movie, Luke location or destiny, seems to be a mystery, that it will be the case for the audience. It will not be the first time in a Star Wars movie that Luke will be on is own, doing stuff nobody know about. In the ESB and ROTJ, Luke is mostly doing thing by himself, and most of the other character not really knowing what is up to. Maybe I’m trying to be to rational, but I’m really think that Abraham and Kazdan put a lot of energy to be true of the OT and don’t really give a damn about the PT, except to be sure to do not made the same mistake, like create situation that made the link between the 2 trilogy looks dumb, a 9 years old Anakin for example, even if in the original cut of ROTJ Ben clearly said to Luke that the first he met his father he have approximately the same age as Luke. And the ripped off of the EU, best thing to do if you want fresh story.

So for me, the way they will approach the Master Luke character is probably close to old Obiwan and Yoda type. Someone leaving alone, in a quiet place, strong with the force, using it for knowledge, and aware of what happening, like Yoda, alone in is swamp, but “spying” to Luke since a long time. So when the Force awaken, he will feel it, and probably go for it. The same way for Snoke. In the Kylo Ren tv spot, when Snoke say to him: “Even you never face such a test” , I think is because he know, that if Kylo follow the trace of the Awakening, ultimately he will have to face Luke Skywalker. I’m sure, the “I will finish what you start” thing is hunt down and kill all the Jedi, and the only to do it, is to kill Luke Skywalker, the last one.

So Luke made is entrance early than what the rumor says, confident I am!!

I also thought at first that the title implied that the Force had been dormant for 30 some years, but since Kylo Ren doesn’t seem to have any trouble using the Force right from the start (according to rumors), I don’t think this is the case anymore. IMO, the title could easily mean something like “The Force Awakens…in a new generation” for instance.

I agree on the KoR in the rain scene. IMO, that could be a vision of the future rather than a flashback, as in what could happen if Rey and/or Finn fail to fulfill their destiny. Flashbacks don’t belong in SW, IMO, but visions have been a recurring theme throughout the saga.

Good point about the audience knowing about Luke’s whereabouts, even if the characters don’t know it. If this is the case, then his coming to the rescue at the climactic Rey/Finn vs. Kylo duel could make sense and make us all clap and cheer. And I hope you’re right, because I count myself among the many who’d hate to see Luke only for 5, 10 minutes in TFA.

And finally, I agree on everything you’ve said about Luke’s present situation, Snoke’s warning to Kylo, and Kylo’s pledge to Vader’s mask. It makes all the sense in the world to me, so I’m also convinced that this should be how things will turn out on the film.

Adam Driver, is 32, so there is possibility that that Kylo Ren is about this age. It could probably be the last Force sensitive in 30 years? And very big home made speculation, what if is crazy Vader’s obsession was coming from the fact he was born the day that the rebels blow the second Death Star, the day Vader die? Probably big fantasy, but personally, I like the idea!!

          • December 9, 2015 at 10:31 pm
            Permalink

I could be mistaken, of course, but I believe that the Knights of Ren are all Force sensitives. Kylo just seems to be Snoke’s favorite and/or the most powerful or experienced among the Ren.

I would also love for the Force being dormant since Anakin brought balance by the end of RotJ, and that a massive awakening could be taking place at the time of TFA, but that might be too risky at this point.

Based on all the heat that Lucas has received for trying something new and risky with the PT, the last thing Disney/Lucasfilm wants is to take chances. The idea here is to keep things simple, not too deep or complex, even if new concepts could be much better planned or executed than Lucas did in the PT.

What if the Knights of Ren are like the Inquisitors? There is quite a few of them, all fighting for the top spot.

I assume you’re speaking of the Inquisitors in Rebels, right? I don’t watch the show, so IDK much about them other than they hunt Jedi for the Empire.

But this is what happened to the Sith which led to the Rule of 2, if I’m not mistaken; they were all fighting for the top spot till they almost self-destroyed. IDK if this info is still canon, but I don’t see why the KoR couldn’t be similar to either the Inquisitors or the ancient Sith in this sense, yeah.

I’m think that Lucas was trying to hard at the time of the PT. The guy literally change the history of cinema with ANH, probably trying to achieve the same thing with TPM, but he shoot in to much direction, Digital movie, CGI, serious movie (criticism of the Bush administration, of the world globalization, wild capitalism, colonialism, etc.) and so much other thing, but he forget the basic of a good movie: great story, great character, and the basic of Star Wars, a ton of fun. I personally don’t hate the Prequel, nor I don’t love them either, they are just a perfect balance of very good and very bad ideas or decisions, so they feel rushed and unpolished. I’m not an author, but it is probably hard to right a story when your hands are tight by something coming before. Reason why I’m so happy they ripped off the EU.

For the awakening, I have a feeling that we could more force user that we think, but not necessary reaching the level of the PT. For me Rey, Ren and Finn are obviously Force sensitive. The Finn debate is so lame, Star Wars movie have always targeted child, you don’t create a misleading campaign about a character when your targeting children. And I will not fall from my chair if Poe be Force sensitive. The guy, like Isaac said, is the best freaking pilot in the galaxy, like Anakin, like Luke, the Force could be the reason why.

And finally, I think the reason of the: Hey look, it’s Luke Skywalker-end credits start rolling, rumor it’s very simple. Many of us gave a lot of credit to the MSW plot, but their plot always change every time we receive new footage. Mainly, they check the clip, try to put it in order and feel the gap, generally with something from EU. But,I’m not convince that imagination is their strongest suit. We get nothing of Luke, except the small scene in the trailer and the leak picture. So, when you have not to much imagination, and get 2 seconds of Luke footage, you take the easy and said, we eared rumor that Luke do not show before the end, but we will seem him in a flashback.

I think you’re missing my point. Imagine if in the OT Han Solo picked up a lightsaber and faced Vader with it. Maybe this is what we’ll see with Finn in TFA.

Of course Rey is not a Jedi yet, but that is the trajectory she is heading towards.

          • December 9, 2015 at 6:46 pm

I’m totally getting your point, just not agreeing with you, at this point of the trilogy, the fact that Finn and Rey are/are not force sensitive when they face Kylo Ren is irrelevant, in any of the case, they facing something bigger and stronger than what they can handle, and is brave enough for me. And Finn probably know what kind danger Ren is. And by the end, witch one would became Jedi, every body as is theory or preference. I’m believe the two of them, and maybe one of them will turn bad. Don’t know will see.

And for Han facing Vader, I think we have pretty good idea of how it will turn…

I don’t think Finn will be a Jedi. I assume most Jedi in the OT and ST will be descendants of Anakin. Since Finn is black, he can’t be of the Skywalker/Solo linage. I believe that Finn can use his lightsaber because standard imperial training now includes teaching stormtrooper to lightsaber/staff duel. (You can see the stormtrooper having a duel with Finn in the TV spots.) I think in Star Wars 7, Leia has the lightsaber, and gives it to her daughter, Rey. Rey declines it because she has her staff, and gives the blue lightsaber to Finn, because he can use lightsabers, although not force sensitive. When Kylo Ren beats Finn in the lightsaber duel, he takes Anakin/Lukes’s blue lightsaber. This is convenient because Kylo Ren is the son of Luke, and once again, the blue lightsaber will be handed down to the next male Skywalker descendent. Kylo will probably turn to the light side in 9, and use the blue lightsaber for good, as his ancestors did.

Obi Jhon knobi face book comment

Hey guys, some of may notice that the title and thumbnail for today’s Movie Talk has been changed. Pretty soon, the video itself will be edited down as well to remove the first topic discussed (it was a Star Wars topic). I just wanted to get on here before any speculation started as to why this is happening.

A few hours after the show posted, Disney contacted me and very respectfully requested that we take the segment out. Please understand Disney has never… in almost 10 years that I’ve dealt with them… EVER requested that I take anything down (nor have I ever put them in a position where they would feel the need to ask). My team and Disney have always had a very good relationship. When I talk mad shit about Agents of Shield, they have never asked me to “tone it down” or “please say something nice”. They have always respected our editorial integrity. So when they politely called me and requested we take a topic down today I decided to grant the request. It wasn’t an urgent story that fans “had a right to know” or anything important. I didn’t feel that removing the topic was somehow a “disservice to the fans”, or was in any way “important to the community”. So I felt ok about pulling it.

It’s important to know that the studios don’t have any editorial influence over us, and Disney fully agrees with that. However, just because someone isn’t your boss, doesn’t mean you can’t do something for them if they make a request. Today, Disney made a respectful request, and out of respect we obliged.

So that’s it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I’ll answer what I can. Cheers!

Slowly. Chewie was already like 200 when the OT rolled around.

This film without a doubt has to have set the record for most Star Wars TV spots of any film at 18 (and counting!) Not even Episode I had that many and the film isn’t even out yet. I’m not sure I dig the sleek floors of the new Star Destroyers, Yeah it’s different but sleekness and shininess were a big part of why the PT never really truly felt like Star Wars.

The Imperial hangar floors were sleek like this floor. Grand Moff Tarkin’s conference room had a sleek table and globe. Cloud City’s apartments were sleek and shiny. It’s not unheard of in the old movies.

Cloud City was a resort/casino planet so it had to be upscale. There are suff marks on the floors of both Death Stars and even a busted light in The Emperor’s Throne Room. It’s nicer than what the Rebels have but it’s far from pristine like Coruscant.

The Empire was always sleek and shiny. It’ the rebels who were second-hand and lived-in.

Sleeker and shinier than the Rebellion but the walkers were always slightly aged looking and both Death Stars look pretty worn compared to nearly envrionment seen in he PT.

And you have somehow seen up-close images of the walkers and other artillery of the First Order? No. Just watch the movie, then you ca judge,

No walkers in this one yet but their TIE’s looks very shiny on my TV, Especially compared with what the Empire had who was clean but never pristine.
