Rumor: Star Wars: Episode 7 Character Bits.

mandalore_the_ultimate

Pottential MINOR SPOILERS:

According to the latest rumor by LatinoReview Mandalorians will make a big appearance in the upcoming sequel Star Wars: Episode VII…

From LatinoReview:

If you’re asking who are Mandalorians here is some background for you from Wookiepedia.

“In their early years, Mandalorian culture revolved around battle, with war being a source of honor and pride in their community. The leader of the Mandalorians, known as the Mand’alor, translates to “Sole Ruler” and presented as “Mandalore” in Basic. Throughout their history, the Mandalorians often allied with the Sith, perhaps most notably the Sith Lord Exar Kun, and held a certain distrust and general dislike for the Jedi Order.

However, they wouldn’t hesitate to cooperate with the Jedi if a partnership between the two groups was mutually beneficial. In later years, the Mandalorians moved away from their obsessively war-like and conqueror ways and instead, most became bounty hunters and mercenaries, selling their skills to various individuals and factions in the galaxy.”

This matches with we’ve been hearing for months, that group of mercenaries would be antagonizing our Jedi heroes.

Reports from set claim to have spotted some black and silver/chrome troopers. We haven’t been able to confirm if these troopers were Mandalorians or just a new group of Imperial Storm Troopers.

Nightsister_TCG

Onto the next detail, a Sith Witch/Witches are in “”Star Wars: Episode VII.” We don’t know the name of the character(s) nor do we know if they’re loosely based on the Nightsisters of Dathomir, Dathomir of course being Darth Maul’s home world.

Well actually these reports are nothing we haven’t heard before and they kinda sound more like a speculation but still keep them in mind.

“FIRST!” posts contribute absolutely nothing to the comments section, I thought this was already established.

I think Gwendoline will play a Mandalorian and also Oscar Isaac. They may be good villains.

As far as we know, Asoka, Ventress, Maul and others were not killed… If they played a part in Episode VII and the trilogy that would be awesome!

No it would be so stupid and pointless I would scream my face off, and the fact that people think JJ, Kathleen Kennedy, Lawrence Kasdan, etc would ever think this is a good idea is hysterical.

There’s absolutly no way that any of their involvement in EpVII’s plot would make sense. Don’t get your hopes up.

So, how close are you to the production to know exactly what the plot is actually?

Any tidbit of information you know would quell the thirst of spoiler seekers here on this forum. Please let us know!!

On the plus side, since they’re aliens, you could always say that they just have longer lifespans than humans do and cast them with middle-aged actors instead of old actors.

I doubt that they’d appear in Episode VII, but never say never for stuff like Rebels and the spinoff movies…

Do you have any idea what the lifespan of a Dathomirian or a Togruta is, and therefore how irrelevant your question is? Wookieepedia has no entry for Dathomirian lifespans, but it does say the Togruta live on average 94 years, but there’s nothing to say that detail can’t be changed for Ep7, since the actual fact has never been stated canonically. Don’t dismiss possibility without fact to back up your position.

I’d really like to see Mandalorians play a larger role in this next trilogy as long as their place in the plot doesn’t seem squeezed in as a fan pleaser, it could add a lot to the story! They’ve always been a favorite Star Wars race of mine.

Maybe there’s an ancient sith that allies with the mandalorinas to cause a shit storm on the galaxy, which is overseen by the siths apprentice. Would be a cool nod to the emperor/vader/empire situation, sith/apprentice/mandalorians. I have no idea how many mandalorians there are though and if there would be enough to cause havoc to the galaxy..

Well this would make Gwendolyne Christie a badass Mandalorian Warrior instead of a big silver stormtrooper. I like this. Maybe the Mandos took controll of the Imperial fleet after Endor…

The last 3 episodes of the Clone Wars with the Yoda arc about the force has clues to the next trilogy…..plain and simple…George Lucas set it up that way!

“The next trilogy” chronologically after Clone Wars would be the original trilogy… I highly doubt the clone wars animated series will have much synchronization with the sequel trilogy.

If they’re introducing Mandalorians to the movie, then a Boba Fett spinoff is all but confirmed.

I would like to see a story where he sets out to prove himself as a true Mandalorian after his father was dishonored by a previous Mandalore (following the retcon in The Clone Wars), leading him to challenge the current Mandalore (who I would cast as Rory McCann) for the title.

In general, I would rather have the Boba Fett movie be a sequel to Return Of The Jedi rather than an origin story, at least to offset his undignified defeat in that movie.

I agree. Movie on fett surviving the sarlaac would be great. Not sure what I think of mandalorians all over in episode 7 though…

Yeah, I always thought that if an unarmed person fell into the Sarlacc, they’d “find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over a thousand years”, as Threepio said, but Boba Fett fell in with rocket launcher, flame-thrower, wrist blasters, etc. all still intact, so it made no sense for him to be stuck in there. He could most likely have made a very simple and quick repair to the (frankly) minor damage Solo caused to it earlier and just flown out. So yes, onward with the Fett movie, please. ^_^

Agree 100% with DKdent77 above. Christie would be a great Mandalorian, especially after watching the last episode of GoT. 🙂

I still believe Driver will be a Mandalorian as well (and eventually Mandalore himself in Ep VII). I have commented on this multiple times (on previous topics on the old site) and do believe that Mandalorians will play a huge part in the ST. Since the original post was under another name (DroidShack) on the old site, I will repost here because of its relevance to this topic (with minor edits due to the latest rumor from LR).

as I (and others) mentioned prior, and now in this article re: Mandolorians, Mercenaries, etc and the past article re: “Boba-Fett-similar armor is around. Probably not for the man himself. Mandalorians? Clone drama? Still unclear on a plot/character connection.” has been mentioned by LR, probably a good time to discuss (once again) this ST & The Mandalorian connection. Would be cool to see an article on starwars7news speculating re: The Mandalorians and their potential influence on the ST. 😉

Mandalorians will project nicely into the ST due to many reasons, I think at this point we have enough canonical data points to project the Mandalorians into the ST (good to hear latest rumors supporting this) and here they are per the canon recognized OT, PT, CW & Rebels:

1 (OT) – Boba Fett wore mandalorian armor and one of the most recognized characters visually of the OT (I mean lets be honest HUGE fan favorite for many reasons)
2 (PT) – Jango Fett wore mandalorian armor in the PT, and is the father of Boba
3 (Clone Wars) – Not only young Boba, but a ton of episodes and arcs re: Mandalore and its return to its ancient warrior ways, and why was it sooooo important to the staff of CW and George to return Mandalore to its warrior ways? wink wink I think we all know its a set up for the ST.
4 (Rebels) – and of course their is another Mandalorian appearing as a Rebel insurgent who likes det cord and graffiti. More canonical data and projection of Mandalorians (their armor and their warrior ways). We all know that the Clone Wars and Rebels are big time canonical setups for the ST.

So the real fun now (at least for me) is projecting out to the 5th (ST) data point and how will the Mandalorians be portrayed and how will they help shape the yet to be realized ST NEW era galaxy. Do we really believe that the NEW ST will be the only trilogy in the Star Wars galaxy that doesn’t have a solid Mandalorian presence (even if it is just the armor itself representing Mandalore and its warrior ways)? Also, the obvious fact that the later CW seasons had a huge Mandalorian influence, and not to mention a Mandalorian (or at least someone wearing the armor) is a big part of Rebels, I think its safe to say Mandalorians will play a HUGE part in the ST.

Also, lets look at the silver and black trooper and mercenary related rumors. For those of us who played the Star Wars Miniatures (SWM) table-top mini game, you know that the Mandalorian Warriors/Commandos/etc donned silver and black armor with slits for visors (see Stormtrooper rumor from last week or so). This could really be setting up nicely for Mandalorians being the “stormtroopers” and possibly big villains in the ST.

So with all that said lets not over look Adam Driver’s military training and background as a Marine. All that military experience may translate to cool Mandalorian behavior, tactics, etc. If not Driver and Christie? Then who else might play the ST Mandalorian?

This to me is one of the most exciting aspects of the new ST. Can’t wait!

    My 2 credits!

I think Ord-Mandel should be the name of the Mandelorian home star system instead of Mandeloria. They could overwrite Wookieepedia so that Ord-Mandel (hitherto spelled Ord-mantell) becomes a compound place name like Chekoslovakia. Planet Mandel in a troubled alliance with neighboring planet Ordala become Ord-Mandel.

Also, don’t you agree that bounty hunting is a silly thing to base a planetary economy on? Just because the only Mandelorian we know happens to be a bounty hunter doesn’t mean that most Mandelorians should be bounty hunters. If the only Earth person I knew happened to be a crossing guard I’d hope I would have more imagination than to posit a crossing guard-based planetary economy!

Just like Boba Fett is a single warrior for hire, in a universe with galaxies of conflict, an army for hire would be Big Credits for any Army involved.

    Man of Lore = Mandalore
    Mandalore = Ord Mantell
I’m almost certain West End Games developed the Planet name and its Peoples as Mandalorian for the original SW role play game and based it off of the line”That bounty hunter we ran into on Ord Mantell”. Its interesting how Character development in star wars will have spanded decades. One problem, the notion of the Mandalorians of old may not stand up to the path now taken, as well with the Sith Witches. What we perceived of these character Ideas then till now…maybe way different!
I hope Hybrid Designs pan out well in this New attempt at Star Wars, sometimes an old concept inserted later pays off well, such as The lava planet duel on Mustafar. That lore was in Mags and books as a senerio of how Vader came to be, a priceless seed Lucas planted years before its big reveal.

So those troopers some people saw on the set weren’t Stormtroopers, but Mandalorians! I would like that, especially if they are guided by malicious Witches of Dathomir. It would lead to an incredibly epic story.

Perhaps the main villian is a mandolorian with force sensitivity trained or untrained. Maybe a night sister or sith witch or what have you hires them and realizes they are force sensitive. Then proceeds to train them in force use. With the addition of force use and mando fighting skills that would be a challenge for most Jedi I don’t know sounds kinda cool at least in my head anyway……any thoughts ?

To the best of my knowledge no one’s ever seen Boba Fett’s face, nor if I may be so bold as to say, seen his take a wee. So maybe we’re about to see Boba Fett being played by a woman, Lupita Nyong’o in a spin-off.
