StarWars.com Thanks The Force Awakens Fans.

The official Star Wars website has issued a “thank-you” note to the fans for their continued support of the film – and along the way, they reveal some interesting details about the view metrics that the newest trailer has amassed in its first 24 hours of release.

After two record-breaking teasers, the full trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted earlier this week, and we are humbled by the response. The sneak peek shown during ESPN’s Monday Night Football was seen by a TV audience of over 16 million, followed by an immediate release on YouTube, Facebook, and platforms worldwide. In just 24 hours, the trailer was viewed online more than 112 million times. That’s 128 million times globally in a single day! But more than numbers, there was discussion, there were reaction videos, there were fun memes. There were cheers and there were tears from fans young and old. We saw and loved it all, and it meant the world to the creators of the film. And we were equally blown away by the advance ticket sales.

Websites slowed, crashed, and became one with the Force. (There probably hasn’t been this big of a network jam in a galaxy far, far away since the Emperor’s trap in the Battle of Endor.) Incredibly — but not surprisingly — you set numerous records, including the biggest-ever 24 hours for advance sales in numerous countries. In the UK, more than 200,000 tickets were sold in the first day. In Norway, you braved subzero temperatures overnight to make sure you were among the first to see the film. Fortunately, there are still plenty of tickets to be had for opening weekend and beyond.

The full statement can be viewed at the link shown above.

The recent view metrics vastly eclipse the previous world-record held by the movie’s second teaser, which amassed 88 million views across all platforms in the the first day. The hype for this film has indeed awakened, and this movie is well on its way to being one of the most profitable films ever made. May the Force be with Lucasfilm.

There have been plenty of better movies than Avatar that have made a lot less money. I remember going to see Avatar a second time because I enjoyed the 3D element so much the first time round. From memory, Avatar was one of the first big blockbusters to go 3D. But if the film is anywhere near as moving and exciting as the trailer, then Avatar’s record might be in danger! Let’s hope so!

One of the first? It is the sole reason that 3d got the revival and push that it needed to still be around now(albeit with a diminished presence season to season just as the old school red and blue 3d did the first time.)

As much as I loved the teasers, ESPECIALLY the 2nd one, there is something gripping about this trailer. I dont know if its the music, the now obvious great choice in casting, or Kylo Ren’s bad ass voice (never thought a bad guys voice could be as good as Vaders, but man its close); or what it is about this trailer but every time I watch it I enjoy it more. Ive seen it maybe 40 times now. God plz plz plz let this movie be 2/3 as good as the hype….

One another note: someone at Disney is looking like a fricking genius right now. Did we ever find out how the acquisition of Lucas Films actually happened? I want to know who was the first person to say to him/her self: “hmmm we should buy Lucas Films and do Star Wars films..” Or did Lucas approach Disney?

Ι myself have watched the trailer like 50 times because I am watching the reactions. 10 on my own so that is 60. I don’t know what they did but you are right, something is indeed special about those 2+ minutes, they feel like a movie on their own. Perfect job making us happy and taking our money at the same time.

I think movie marketing history was made with these 3 trailers. They will be studied and taught at marketing departments all over the world for many years to come.

This is an excelllent example of marketing, I maintain that. Even if the movie is bad, which I seriously doubt, the marketing campaign has been solid and profitable for Disney. It’s not the end product we are evaluating here, it’s how it is sold and on that front JJ has delivered with exemplary skill.

I think it’s actually pretty slick, if he’s so obsessed, he’s “TRYING” to sound like Vader, yet, he sounds as he does. Because we know through toys, that there is parts of the movie with this regular talking voice. So, it’s not like Vader, where he needs the respirator. So, most likely he’s just a poser. Probably being manipulated by Snoke.

I could see that. In fact, that fits, just “fan worship” for lack of a better word. I like Kylo so far, good character. I don’t know anything from the toys, I try to avoid all articles with a spoiler heading. Made it 2 years! now I gotta hang on for 2 more months.

10 years without any non-animated Star Wars films in theaters, A 30 year plus sequel in the making that many (including myself) never saw happening, and getting to see the original cast again means that this film would have always made bank even if GL wrote/directed it again. Even if Jar Jar returned, I don’t see any possible way this would not at the very least be the highest grossing film of 2015 in any alternate dimension. That being said, The future success of the trilogy will all depend on how good this one is. Episode II got hurt by Episode I and though III did better than II due to it being the “final film” it still could not compete with the PT hype machine that soured over the years.

Just not a fan of the the last one. I really think they should have just kept the two trailers. Especially since this new one doesn’t reveal anything more about the story than the last, and even recycles some of the same shots. The music also seems very melodramatic, and apparently arranged on a synth by someone other than JW. Plus it would have held up the tradition of one teaser and one longer trailer. Just my thoughts.

this is the trailer that is supposed to lure people to theatres, someone like you who pretty much knows “Everything” about the story already isn’t going to learn anything new from it. Yet people that didn’t really know about Ep7 get a great introduction to the main cast. The music is actually very well done and praised by trailer/music critics so I don’t know what your issue is there.

I wasn’t complaining, I was just saying it didn’t resonate with me.

And I would have to disagree on excusing the genericism of the trailer by saying it is intended for a wider audience. If that were the case, they would have showed the original cast together again and shed light on some kind of story. This trailer is is essentially the same as the last, minus the authentic soundtrack.

Dude.. C’mon. The trailer for this film was meant to introduce the characters, show the tone, show off the star warsy moments. Which it did. I rather not know the story at all, because what if its a story that could be spoiled with scenes in a trailer/teaser. Get me? It might be that straight forward and they don’t want to show us before the movie releases.

I took this trailer as them showing us, This is Star Wars, have no worries, but you still aren’t getting a plot. I’m starting to think theres a major plot twist based on the actors comments, and the way they have hid key elements.

I particularly enjoy the fact that we know little about the specific plot. I think this is set up, more like a novel. You know beginning a continuation what happened previously. And perhaps, it’s because I’ve read most of the accompanying novels (Sith Lords, Tarkin) and currently half way through with Lost Stars (and own, and will move on to Aftermath shortly) that it feels like a continuation. We know the battle of Endor. We know the death of Vader, the Emperor. We can assume with the size and might of the Empire, that we know the fight simply didn’t just ‘stop’ because of the Emperor’s death. The glimpse of Han and Leia insinuates that they continued their romance. We know that much like the rise of the Third Reich, the First Order has declared war not only on the Empire, but everyone that doesn’t agree with their political/religious ideology (which is made clear with Kylo Ren’s conversation with Vader’s mask). We know that Ren is ‘most likely’ related to the Skywalker’s which is pretty much assumed through Kathleen Kennedy’s remarks that this is ‘following the Skywalker’s story”. I could go on and on, but it’s pretty obvious in many regards… Do we know exactly who everyone is? Why Luke is missing? If Rey/Kylo, etc; is someone’s child? Specifics? No. Thankfully… Would make for a dull story going forward…. They wet our pallet. Made us ask questions… Made us create our own theories, ideas, etc. THAT is why this is so exciting. IMO.

I tend to agree with Ian. The trailer didn’t impress me much due to alot of the footage being seen before. I’d hope to get something of a plot from it – that would be the main reason for it not impressing.

The main reason for that would be due to perspective. As a fan having heard most of the rumours, seen the previous trailers this one didn’t add any thing realy. With that bias I find it hard to guess how it would feel for a non fan; which I guess is who the traler was for. It might be impressive or inviting to them. My guess is that it would appear to be a mystery to that audience: the plot I mean. To me it was devoid of plot.

It wasn’t a bad trailer just didn’t give enough from my perspective.

Ian didn’t label it pathetic or be overly picky about it. He and others just weren’t drooling over it like so many. Probably means we want more, which we’ll all get when the movie comes out.

I liked the trailer. In all fairness it didn’t get me as much as teaser 2 but it was still awesome. At last I will be able to go into the movie and be surprised.

I think that is what JJ intended from the start, he not only reverted the cinema clock back to 1977 by making so many parallels between New Hope and Force Awakens, but also reverted the clock of the real world, not revealing anything of importance, taking us back to a time when the internet did not exist and spy drones were not sold in shops. That’s beautiful, the fact that he keeps everything so secret is what makes this movie so precious for me.

I feel like a little kid again, going to see something that I love and be suprised by how it has changed because honestly the internet has failed to provide me with any info about it. So I am grateful for this and I thank JJ for that feeling of honest surprise which I admit I had lost for many years since I started seeing spoliers on the internet. He torments us by denying us information in the Information Age but we gain something so much better from it and that is the genuine “Oh my god, Star Wars is back!!” feeling.

That is simply priceless and again I am grateful for it.

I generally agree with this completely, but in all fairness, JJ probably had very little (if anything) to do with the trailer.

That’s just not how it works usually, with the trailer actually being edited and released by the studio’s own marketing team. It’s what they do.

On large movies such as this the director actually has quite a bit of say in the trailer. It isn’t a “Studio film” like a WB/SONY/Colubia pictures etc… It’s a Lucasfilm production and ultimately Lucasfilm i.e. Kathleen Kennedy, is the final say-so. So for this movie specifically, I would say that yes, JJ has quite a bit of say as to what is(n’t) shown or alluded to within the trailer.
