Star Wars Battlefront: Twilight Company Gets an Official Synopsis!

Cover

RandomHouse has posted the official synopsis of the upcoming Star Wars novel Battlefront: Twilight Company. Written by Alexander Freed, the novel is inspired by the hotly anticipated videogame Star Wars: Battlefront and follows a squad of soldiers caught in the trenches of the ultimate galactic war between good and evil. The book is expected to be released on November 3rd, 2015.

From RandomHouse:

The bravest soldiers. The toughest warriors. The ultimate survivors.

Among the stars and across the vast expanses of space, the Galactic Civil War rages. On the battlefields of multiple worlds in the Mid Rim, legions of ruthless stormtroopers—bent on crushing resistance to the Empire wherever it arises—are waging close and brutal combat against an armada of freedom fighters. In the streets and alleys of ravaged cities, the front-line forces of the Rebel Alliance are taking the fight to the enemy, pushing deeper into Imperial territory and grappling with the savage flesh-and-blood realities of war on the ground.

Leading the charge are the soldiers—men and women, human and nonhuman—of the sixty-first mobile infantry, better known as Twilight Company. Hard-bitten, war-weary, and ferociously loyal to one another, the members of this renegade outfit doggedly survive where others perish, and defiance is their most powerful weapon against the deadliest odds. When orders come down for the Rebels to fall back in the face of superior opposition numbers and firepower, Twilight reluctantly complies. Then an unlikely ally radically changes the strategic equation—and gives the Alliance’s hardest-fighting warriors a crucial chance to turn retreat into resurgence.

Orders or not, alone and outgunned but unbowed, Twilight Company locks, loads, and prepares to make its boldest maneuver—trading down-and-dirty battle in the trenches for a game-changing strike at the ultimate target: the very heart of the Empire’s military machine.

from the synopsis and the fact the game features the battle of jakkuu (what ever the spelling) it’s probably set after Rotj!

Here is an exerpt from the book:

“Eighteen months earlier, the Rebel Alliance’s Sixty-First Mobile Infantry—commonly known as Twilight Company—had joined the push into the galactic Mid Rim. The operation was among the largest the Rebellion had ever fielded against the Empire, involving thousands of starships, hundreds of battle groups, and dozens of worlds. In the wake of the Rebellion’s victory against the Empire’s planet-burning Death Star battle station, High Command had believed the time was right to move from the fringes of Imperial territory toward its population centers.”

After reading this over a few times, it seems as if the Rebellion started to push through the galactic mid rim after the destruction of the Death Star. It seems to be about 18 months give or take after it’s destruction, so I’m thinking this book (at least in the timeline given in this excerpt) takes place about midway between ANH and ESB.

I fail to see an exact placement mentioned anywhere. If you are referencing the link that was posted for the novel previews on this site previously, they reached their conclusion referencing this same excerpt. I just thought I’d post the actual words in the book rather than discribe it.

Sorry. I was referring to the other guy. Seen a lot of people thinking it’s after Jedi. But yeah, the timeline places it between IV and V but after Heir to the Jedi. Pretty broad.

Which Death Star though. Don’t imagine they would have the resources to make a push like that after anh!

IT IS AFTER ANH, AFTER HEIR TO THE JEDI.

But I see what you mean, ‘thousands of starships’ is a little bit surprising. However, it can mean that we’ll see half of them in Rogue One, so I’m happy. 🙂

Guys, the story from this book takes place between ANH and ESB. If you pick up a recent canon Star Wars book (let’s take Dark Disciples for example), you’ll see in the beginning of the book a listing of all books and TV shows that have been released so far and you’ll see where each falls in place timeline-wise between the movies and this particular book happens to fall between Ep. IV and V. It’s also depicted here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_canon_media#js

I wonder if that last line is referring to a sort of covert black operation to assasinate the Emperor at Imperial Center on Coruscant or something to that effect. If that is the case, as cool as that would be…it’s another case of “Titanic Syndrome” for the new Star Wars material. For ex. – In Dark Disciple, we knew the Dooku assassination attempt would fail…the same for the Vader/Palpatine coup by Syndulla and co. in Lords of the Sith. An attack on the emperor would spell certain inevitable doom for the characters in this book. I hope they stay away from that type of plot and instead focus on the destruction of a vital imperial shipyard or something like that. The book sounds like it could be cool, I just hope it’s the type of story where we don’t know what’s coming. I guess that’s why Aftermath has me excited…it’s not bound by anything in the current canon, aside from the events of the ST which we know next to nothing about for sure. We know the big three, Chewbacca, the droids, Ackbar, and Nien Nunb will survive it, but beyond that…nothing. It’s a big galaxy so I kind of hope that Twilight Co. avoids the major battle scenes of the OT and instead has an original plot. Not to say the plot can’t tie in in some way to larger events and have an impact on the events in ESB and ROTJ, but I hope we can avoid another attempt at snuffing Vader and/or the emperor.

Glad im not the only one confused. 30 years ahead from where we left off to TFA, then back to ANH to collect the death star plans, then forward to ep8, back to resurect Han from pre ANH, on again to ep9, back to something else….all this timetravel is going to make me space sick!

What, Ezra was great, Rebels was great becasue they were like the Original Trilogy which was sooooo important to my childhood. If you’re going to hate, hate the prequels, hate midichlorians, hate CG, except the CG in Rebels, which looked SOOOOO real and besides Rebels looks like McQuarrie art, which did I mention means a lot to my childhood?

EVERYTHING takes place around the Episode 4 and 5 era. No surprise there. I’m surprised JJ Abrams didn’t invent a time travel plot device allowing the new cast to go back in time to the A New Hope Era. Because he would do something stupid like that. And Disney would be stupid enough to let him.

I don’t know about anyone else but I am growing tired of the between ANH and ESB timeline. All I really care about this point is what actually happened after ROTJ. Aftermath is what gets me going. (pulls down pants)

Me too. its getting stale and boring. we need to see more post ROTJ. thats the time that really matters right now to link the OT to the ST. i care way more about how the empire died out and became the first order.

Boring! Another story about how valiant the rebels are in the face of overwhelming odds. Why don’t people try doing something original and new in this fantastic and diverse universe. Good vs evil? War is never as simplistic as that.

Yeah, sometimes it’s evil vs. evil. Or both sides are actually good they just have a misunderstanding between each other.
