Star Wars Battlefront at Gamescom!

Star-Wars-Battlefront-FIghter-Squadron-Mode-1280x720Electronic Arts unveiled new gameplay from DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront, which focuses on the aerial combat mode of the game: Fighter Squadron.

This mode is also unique in that 20 AI fighters are added to each battle in addition to the existing player cap – making the battles larger and more expansive than Battlefront II‘s space battles. For the first time in the history of the series, players will get to pilot the Millennium Falcon and the Slave I, the signature ships of Han Solo and Boba Fett.

You can see the full press conference segment discussing Battlefront below, which features the aforementioned trailer and a closer look at the environment of Sullust, along with a glance of what’s yet to come.

I hope they have more ships in the game beyond what they’ve shown so far. It looks pretty great, though.

I hope so too considering what we were able to pilot in other Star Wars games.

Also I just noticed that Slave I’s wings are in the landing position when it flies towards the Falcon. Kind of a big error if left in the game upon release.

I had noticed the Slave I’s wing position as well (I made a comment about it in the embedded video post someone had made somewhere else though).

I feel that’s a big shot in the foot though for being so… “We’re gonna get this right and down to a ‘T’ and give you the most authentic…” Surely they’ll correct that flaw though because seeing the wings in the landing position is beyond bad in my eyes. Just too goofy lookin’ lol.

I kinda hope to see other starships in the long run though. Whether it be released through DLCs or other versions/sequels of this game. I’d like to see a proper B-Wing. I don’t think I’ve seen a playable B-Wing since Rebel Assault II! I’d LOVE to see The Outrider come back somehow – just have it be a little more canon beyond the 5 seconds it had in SE ANH. But that’s just my personal liking. But the whole ‘Fighter Squadron’ mode is almost as if they built a mini Rogue Squadron within Battlefront. Kinda neat. I’m at least excited to play.

Sorry I did not know you comment on another forum, did not try to steal your observation. Total agree that it is a shot in the foot for EA.

Also its so cool that someone else brings up Star Wars Rebel Assault thought i was the only one who remembered Rebel Assault II.

I think we need more footage before making a definitive call on that. Frankly, who’s to say the wings can’t move during flight? Just because that’s how they’re positioned during landing doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the only time they’d be oriented that way.

Is this battle on Sullust supposed to be before the events in Jedi? Must be if the Falcon’s dish is still round and attached…

Or we have seen another foot get shot out…

You will have a much better experience on the PC version. Console games are just watered down non custmizable versions of real games. Targeted towards childrenfor Christmas.I don’t care how badass people think PS4 and XBOX one are. The PC beta version of this game Blows away any sponsored Sony PS4 dumbed down graphics footage they have shown. the console version of this game doesn’t hold a candle to the pc version played on an i7 with 32 gigs of ram and a gtx 980 with a 144hz monitor. it is laughable

Yeah, except playability is different when using a mouse and keyboard [I don’t afford game-sticks]
I’ve found the are some games that just transfer between systems better than others.
Air-flight is an okay cross-over from stick to mouse, close-range action I can handle with a mouse, but firing a gun with a mouse – without dying? that’s a bit more of a learning curve. For long-ranged ground attack, I still prefer the XBox 360 controller.

Ya’ll probably gonna laugh at me for this, but it does play into my PC/console decision making process.

True, playability is so much more than processor speed and graphics resolution. A choice of platform is a considered decision based on individual needs and preferences. Reducing this to a “mine is bigger than yours” debate is actually what’s laughable 🙂

I used to have trouble aiming with a mouse, but once you get used to it, you will never go back. Controllers just feel sluggish to me now.

Not quite sure i thought they were two different series of games if we were talking about the same game then i apologies. What i meant was that there are other video games in which the player can fly the falcon.

Hell I remember playing Star Wars Rebel Assault II and you fly and ship that is either the Falcon or an identical ship through the planet’s core. Hard to remember so long since i played that game

Xbox 360 get out of here with that last gen garbage

      • August 6, 2015 at 9:02 pm
        Permalink

the 360 was good, the graphics may be outdated by a few aspect ratios and frame rates, but a good game is a good game, and I burned a lot of time playing Halo 3 with me and my bros, piece of garbage or no.

I can enjoy a SEGA game from the year I was born, I can enjoy an XBox 360, heck, I like Space Invaders.

You know what I CAN’T enjoy??

A game that I literally can not play because Microsoft REALLY just HAD to get that upgrade to prove its proverbial yoo-hoo is bigger than Sony’s.
The console doesn’t really make THAT much of a difference and this is just extortion.

I’ll keep my last-gen garbage because that’s what I can afford. So i guess I can just go die in a hellhole pit if I want to play a SW game without losing my apartment. Did I get that right?

    Looks ace!
This looks like a fitting replacement and major improvement on the fighter ‘space’ missions in the old games, can’t wait!

Hopefully that Slave I wing issue is simply that they haven’t programmed the animation for the wings to turn yet lol.

Also the longer show floor video has new shots, dark troopers/pilots and a new Vader encounter at the end in all it’s bolt deflecting glory!

Top stuff, really hyped for this game now. Glad it is coming out on the big 3, PC, XboxOne and PS4 🙂

      No, NOT Breaking News.

The problem with Midi-chlorians is that they’re unnecesarry, extraneous detail that just make talking about SW sound uncool.

And then I forgot about that one line, because, again, it has no meaning or purpose, thus, even being upset by the Midi-chlorians taxes my give-a-damn-span.

However, the unending harping upon by other fans is just meaningful enough for me to care about being annoyed by, thus, it annoys me how annoyed you guys are at a single word.
Because that’s the problem with it, it’s not worth being mentioned, brought up, or annoyed by.
Knowing I won’t be mentioned is nice, nice on the virtue that Kasdan had an extra 30 seconds of script-time to dedicate to something else one mere ounce less uninteresting than the word Midi-chlorian.

IDK, I may be overthinking this.

This game looks amazing, but the fact that they took out all the core modes that made it fun for me; Instant Action, Galactic Conquest, Some form of a campaign, are why I’d, at most, rent this game only.
