UPDATE! Five The Force Awakens Character Action Figures Revealed. Possible First Look at Kylo Ren? New Concept Art Leaked.

Land SwoopTheForce.net made an interesting discovery. It’s a picture posted on a Chinese forum that features the toy moulds of 4 familiar characters + one that highly resembles the leaked art with the crossguard lightsaber villain.

From TheForce.net:

My good friend Roy, a 501st member in China has given us all a heads up on some images that were posted in a Chinese forum recently showing what appears to be four characters from the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens due in theaters December of 2015. Enjoy!

toys

You can clearly see Chewbacca, BB-8, Rey and Finn. The fifth character highly resembles the owner of the crossguard lightsaber from THIS ART. Could this be Kylo Ren?

It’s good to see Chewie with two hands and no prosthetics.

UPDATE!

The guys from IndieRevolver posted a new never before seen concept art that perfectly fits with the toy image above. Check out their story on Kylo Ren HERE!

The clothes match Kylo Ren’s attire in the trailer. I’d say it’s him!

I think its Kylo Ren, and by its size comparing to the other characters it could definitely be Adam Driver.

It’s not, Christie’s character is suppose to b a chrometrooper commander with her helmet looking like the old stormtrooper helmet design, with a black stripe in the middle going down. And she wears a black hood with red coloring inside. I know cus I saw the concept art for her character and it should still b here somewhere on the internet

As for this dude, it might not b kylo ren but maybe his master. Reason why is because in past rumors, there ws a sith that was described as having samurai like armor which, based on this toy and its art image, resembles that rumor big time! Especially since that rumor also mentions that the armor ws a cross between darth vaders mask and samurai armor

Before the trailer was released, there ws concept art leaked of kylo ren (originally called sith historian) that shows the exact clothing he had worn on the trailer but differs from what this toy is showing. Also on the old concept art his helmet (though only half ws shown because the hood ws on) looks different as well. If u ask me kylo rens helmet looks like the terror troopers helmet from FU 2 based on the bottom features which looks nothing like this new concept art that ws released today

Now back to the samurai sith dude, the last time I remember someone having that type of armor was darth bane himself on the clone wars which could only lead to 2 things. A, this might b darth bane that came back from the dead or B, this new sith might have based his armor on banes old armor and he wanted to look exactly like the now dead Sith Lord

  • December 22, 2014 at 3:36 pm

I think the leaked art we saw of Kylo Ren was probably a placeholder. The mask on this action figure looks different from the one in the leaked art which to me is a good thing. I never for a second believed that the mask would that closely resemble a character from the EU, which is completely non-canon but leaves the door open for confusion with some people who are familiar with Darth Revan (even if they’ve only seen him in passing on the cover of KOTOR or whatever.)

    • December 22, 2014 at 5:06 pm
      Permalink

You are assuming he only wears one mask. He could change it to imitate various Sith Lords. If he is a hunter of Sith artifacts these could be actual helmets he has taken from Sith tombs. I like the idea of a wannabe Sith cultist/fanboy.

          “Pure speculation.”

Are you responding to me? If you are, what is the point? Of course it is speculation. That’s why I used words like “if” and “could”. My point is that we don’t know for sure yet, and he “MIGHT” have multiple masks, especially if the name on some of the leaked concept art that might be of him is referring to what he does in the film.

Sorry Nadir, i should have phrased that differently. What i meant to say was interesting theory but i don’t have belief in it’s plausibility because i don’t think they will want to confuse the average moviegoing audience by having the villain keep changing in appearance.

I don’t think it would be that confusing. It depends on how they film it. They could show a shrine/trophy room where he keeps the artifacts and have a scene where he changes masks on screen. You establish it as a quirk of the character, like Joker’s multiple origin stories in The Dark Knight.

Don’t forget Revan was very, very close to being canon in The Clone Wars episode Ghosts of Mortis. The only reason he was deleted from the episode was because Filoni wasn’t sure about the use of Sith ghosts and Lucas told them at the last minute that Sith can’t come back as ghosts and using him and Bane would be confusing. Here is a video of Filoni talking about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFvj026dFxk

No I don’t think so. I think it’s Kylo Ren. He has the belt and sash around his neck exactly like the figure from the trailer, and the fire trooper in the leaked image has the black dots on the bottom of the helmet pointing out of the sides, where as the figure’s looks like it’s in the middle. A trooper would likely have armor on. This figure looks like it has robes that would be fitting of a sith style.

The heights are interesting.. The scales ect.. Boyega being 5.9 .. Mayhew 7.2 .. So maybe the toy on the left could be Driver or Christie 6.4….Maybe it’s Kylo Ren or maybe the clone troopers from the rumours. The hands are interesting too.. How they are deffo holding a lightsaber and the others look like they are gonna get blasters..

Yes these could be custom figures but they’re looking pretty good and accurate, so I think it isn’t brainless to think it’s highly possible that this is a leaked picture of the real figures.

      • December 22, 2014 at 4:45 pm
        Permalink

They could well be knock-offs using the same mold. Someone bribes the guy who’s putting in the mold to let them make a copy.
In China, I heard you can get a knock-off game-controller which will look like the original, using a copy of the designs. Though apparently the knock-offs sometimes use cheaper materials and don’t work as well. Not sure on the details though,

If it’s a copy it doesn’t even matter anyway, since it doesn’t change the fact, that we see the figures for the new movie. So no matter if this is from the factory or a copy (I think factory), that they are real is more or less confirmed now by the news of Kylo Ren’s helmet. It’s the same we see here on the figure.

Anyone notice the orientation of their hands. You can see if they carry a gun or two ( Ridley ) Boyaga looks like he may use a lightsaber. Kylo ten may at some point use two lightsabers .

Two “Excalibur” sabers would really be pushing it. The broadsword design insinuates using two-handed when in a duel. I really hope they don’t go with that.

the rey action figure’s hands look like the ones on a darth maul figure, i think that could mean the weapon on the side of her speeder really is a lightsaber pike. finn probably comes with a gun and lightsaber and kylo comes with his weird lightsaber you use in either hand

If Ren uses a two handed lightsaber then both of the figure’s hands need to be sculpted to grip it.

What you need to remember these toys are so kids can copy what they see in the movie so if Ridley has two pistol grip hands it’s unlikely she uses a saber in this movie. Ren at some point may have his own and maybe someone else’s at a pivotal part of the movie. Something kids will reenact when playing with there new toys Xmas day.

That would make sense. Unfortunately the 6 inch black series have already released a truly awful Obi Wan figure which includes two hands shaped for a blaster but comes with only a lightsaber which it struggles to hold. (Probably a bit sad I know that really). I agree that it should be the case but I’m not so sure Hasbro have cared too much about it in the past if they can reuse some existing moulds.

It’s not kylo ren OR the stormtrooper! Hav u guys forgot about the kylo ren pic that ws posted way back in august, cus if u guys did then thats pretty pathetic because on that picture of kylo ( who was originally called the sith historian) his mask was actually shown and it looks nothing like this new pic. Hell kylos mask looks like the terror troopers helmet from the TFU2 and this picture matches the description of that one samurai looking sith lord that ws mentioned and described in a rumor a couple of months ago

Hell even the clothing from both the trailer and the august pic doesn’t even match up to the clothing that this toy figure has on. The clothes r different and I know cus I looked at both sets of clothing and both masks for a long time so I know what I’m talking about

I like it. It has a bit of a nazi vibe to it, keeping with the traditional empire look. I’m surprised to see the helmet so different from the character one-sheet leak we had before with the more Revan-like chrome mask.

As for the Finn and Rey figures, their hands are moulded to be able to hold both blasters and melee weapons(lightsabers). Maybe all toys are like that…I don’t do toys so I don’t know.

BB-8 is a character I hate because of how his ball looks like, but this unpainted version looks much better I think, just a white ball. BB-8 is only a little too short for a stand alone figure, my thoughts is he will be available with a other character, most likely Rey. Finn is going to be a Han Solo like character in this movie, I’m pretty sure (these clothes are also like the ones from Han Solo in the original triology). I’m happy Hasbro is making figures with much points of movement again, since disney took over Star Wars the movement and details were disapointing. Kylo Ren is still a mysterious character. The picture of him next to that fire see looks like the scene of Obi-Wan Kenobi VS Anakin at the end of episode 3.

Would love to go back in time and change Lucas’ mind about selling to Disney. Some of you “fans” bitch about anything and everything and don’t deserve next December.

There is no “deserve”, it’s a product in a capitalist country. Stop putting your foot in your mouth.

I have a feeling that it’s not at all coincidental that – if that’s Kylo Ren, and minus Chewie – these are all characters that were seen in the teaser trailer.

What I’m thinking is that they are already in production because Hasbro might be planning to release a line of “teaser/preview” figures into the 6″ Black Series super early, months ahead of the release of the rest of the toys for the movie. Makes total sense; I remember them releasing “preview figures” of Jango Fett, Zam Wesell and I want to say a Clone Trooper for Attack of the Clones, several months before the rest of the toys for that movie came out.

Excellent sculpts, especially of Finn, Rey, and Chewie’s faces. I hope the paint job is skilled enough not to detract. I was just reading how Lucas nearly ran out of money on Empire and how the thousands of kids playing with the toys were actually what allowed Star Wars to continue in terms of revenue.

To all of you guys that are stoked on the chewbacca figure, that’s the exact same mold as the one that was released last month, just search black series 6 inch chewbacca. So if they are just reusing the exact same mold for TFA and just giving him grey hair or something it’s pretty lame. Also, I’ve always felt the expression on chewies face was lame, can we get a chewbacca figure with a closed mouth for once?

Hmm… Didn’t see the figure you mentioned but excellent recycled sculpt then. A closed mouth Chewbacca would be interesting and it’s also an interesting thing to want.

Yup that exact chewie sculpt is in wave five along with darth vader, a sandtrooper, and jedi Luke.

Weird to want a chewie without a yelling mouth? He wasn’t walking around with his mouth open all the time…

Kylo Ren… interesting that he doesn’t go by “Darth -xxx-“… I’m actually wondering if he’s even a bad guy? I remember the description of Lucas’s ST outline dealt with blurring the lines between good & evil as not being so black & white. Or perhaps he’s a bad guy but not technically a sith. I dig the helmet design… not the greatest design but not bad either.

Only Sith Masters acquire the title of Darth and whatever nomenclature they give themselves…Vader. Maul, etc. otherwise they just have names like anyone else.

Wrong. He was Darth Vader from the moment he pledged himself to the darkside.

I know the action figures are not scale, but couldn’t we compare the height of those shown with the actors we suspect might be Kylo and deduce how right/wrong we are? Like, if Andy Serkis or Adam Driver is that much taller than John Boyega?

If these are the main characters would it be right to presume Chewie will be recurring throughout the trilogy?

Using a STANDARD Samurai outfit with a Stormtrooper helmet is something George would use, seems like an easy way out. I remember George always talking about this being a Samurai story, I guess he is more involved than we thought. SHIT!

In Kurosawa’s Ran there is one samurai army whose helmets (but not masks) are nearly identical to Vader’s.

What’s interesting about this is that only the Kylo Ren is one we haven’t seen officially in this form before – just the leaked concept art.

What are the chances that these 5 figures are together like this? Why wasn’t it Leia or Luke or Han in the mix or a completely random character we’ve never heard of.

I say Mystery Box! Mystery Box I say!

No, it will be an Early Bird set just like the original. Since the movie is getting released right before Christmas they won’t start shipping until after, unless they want to give away too many secrets.

The toys come out in September as was mentioned in the book announcement. If these are preview toys we’ll see them sometime around April-ish/June-ish probably. They won’t be holding the toys until after Christmas. That would be really really dumb.

The rumors, the hype. I was interested but the concept art looks better than AdamDriver turning into Darth Vader at the end of the movie. Doing Vader II is the dumbest idea since Wii U. I guess we’re all running on rumors and hype(!). I want to see a good scene in this movie but right now, the way all the rumors are being mishmashed, I can’t really seeing anything getting me excited.

Waiting for the spinoff. Hopefully it gets better than this Urgh.
