Star Wars Bits: Still Plenty of Episode 7 Parts to be Cast? Reps Deny Reports on Tom Cruise and Oscar Isaac’s Role. Andy Serkis on Star Wars Secrecy and More.

Lego Star Wars

Plenty of small bits to report today. First and most importantly 2 of the tabloid rumors we told you about were debunked. The denial on Tom Cruise’s cameo is not surprising to anyone but it’s good to hear another confirmation that the reports suggesting a delay of the production and the seriousness of Ford’s injury are completely false. Also one of our own sources told us that Ford’s injury will not delay the shooting schedule and the movie’s release date. Soon we can expect an official confirmation on that. Make sure to hit the jump for the other bits from today…

First, something interesting about the cast of the movie. It looks like there are still roles waiting to be cast. At least that’s what Domhnal Gleeson reportedly said.

Domhnall Gleeson

From Dailystar:

We hear shrewd Miss Delevingne, 21, is using her showbiz connections to try to bag herself a role in the new Star Wars film.
Her friend Domhnall Gleeson, 31, has already been cast in the movie, and is now encouraging the model to try out too.

Sources told us:

“Cara is a huge fan of Star Wars. She became very envious when she heard the unknown actress Daisy Ridley had managed to land a role.
But there are still plenty of parts yet to be cast, as Domnhall has assured her, and she’s desperate for one – no matter how small.”

Tom Cruise & JJ Abrams

Next to the Tom Cruise rumor.

From ETonline:

A rep for Tom Cruise tells ET Canada that there is ‘no truth’ to the rumors that the Edge of Tomorrow star is in talks with J.J. Abrams to make a cameo in Star Wars: Episode VII.

The upcoming Star Wars film has been shooting in London and British tabloid The Sun reported that Cruise “met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel” with a group of people that included J.J. Abrams.
“J.J. produced M:I5 and loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance,” a source at The Sun said. “Losing Harrison is going to set things back a little scheduling wise and there’s some time to play around with.”
Cruise’s rep denied the rumor, calling it pure fiction.

Oscar Isaac

Also Disney denied the report on the expanding role of Oscar Isaac.

From Philly:

Disney studio bosses behind STAR WARS: EPISODE VII have denied reports suggesting director J.J. ABRAMS is expanding actor OSCAR ISAAC’s role in the highly-anticipated movie after an on-set injury forced HARRISON FORD out of action. The veteran movie star, the original Han Solo, is facing up to six months of rehab after breaking his leg during filming at Pinewood Studios in England on 12 June (14). Shooting has continued in Ford’s absence, and Abrams was said to have reworked the storyline to give Isaac more screen time. Details about the Inside Llewyn Davis star’s character have yet to be revealed, but reports suggest he plays a descendant of Solo.

A source tells the New York Post, “They are now beefing up Oscar’s role to be bigger with Harrison injured.” However, a representative for Disney has shut down the rumors, stating, “This is categorically not true.” Studio chiefs previously insisted Ford’s injury would not affect the filming schedule, with the movie still expected to hit movie theaters in December, 2015.

And as I said one of our source has just told us that the whole delay of filming and release date as well as the seriousness of Ford’s injury are complete BS! Also our source said that we can expect an official statement on that very soon.

Next, a few words from Andy Serkis on Star Wars secrecy. Click HERE. (via perrymoon)

Luke Skywalker

And finally a curious Episode VII plot rumor heard by both AICN and BadAssDigest.

Keep in mind that their reports are based on the rumor that the production might be delayed and Isaac’s role is expanding. Which is not true.

POTENTIAL SPOILER

According to both reports Han Solo will be the star of the new movie and he would be taking the new kids and a galaxy-wide search party on a journey across the galaxy to find Luke Skywalker.

Many people suggest that this search for Luke thing is something that leaked from Michael Arndt’ draft for the movie. If you remember few months back we reported a similar rumor about the new kids searching for Luke and trying to rescue Han and Leia from some kind of imprisonment. The question is, did this plot point ended up in the final script and was it altered by Abrams and Kasdan and how? Of course this is just a rumor and it might be completely wrong.

Glad to hear that the Ford injury being so serious was rumors. I have been trying to keep away from the news”as to not spoil any thing for this awesome movie” but lately there have been some crazy rumors going around.

the plot rumour (although its probably false…) sounds kinda cool… maybe Luke had started up a jedi order, and then left… in his absense, the jedi have been hunted, so the kids have to find the MIA luke… with a little help from han solo and the millennium falcon!

This is why i ignore all rumors. As big this movie is, there will be lots of false flags. The only 3 facts we know is Ford had an injury, a giant pig was built, and Hans ship is in part 7. Other than that, there is no fact that they will or will not use at least a few of the EU characters. There is no fact that Daisy Ridley is playing Hans Daughter. There is no fact that Oscar is Hans son. There is no fact that Boyega is playing good or bad villian. There is no fact Luke has or doesnt have a child. There is no fact Obi-Wan has a granchild or not. There is not fact that planet Hoth is in this. Yes we know there is a ice planet , but for all we know it could be another planet. Maybe it iz Hoth, but who knows. We know the sith planet Morriban is in it but there is no fact that sith are or are not on it. AAAHHHHHHHHH RUMORS SUK !!!!

this might come get me some hate comments, but as awesome and kickass as Han was in the original trilogy, Luke really is the main character of both that story, and should be the main character (at least, initially) in this one/trilogy.

I hope that they are putting story and characters before “harrison is more famous than mark”.

Its sort of the issue that they have in the Star Trek reboot, and its while I’m (optimistically) nervous about JJ.

H.Ford might be whats popular, but Hamill is really what the trilogy NEEDS…

by the same logic, if the script and story outline is the best possible one, i would much prefer SW7 to be delayed til May if Ford needs more recovery time, then the script reworked (due to Ford’s injury…) to substitute Isaac for Ford in order for them to get it out on time…

JJ did well with turning Star Trek into a mainstream sic-fi action flick… but ST has very little to do with the original films it was based on. Yes its in the same universe, with the same characters, but everything from the type of sci-fi film to the films message has nothing to do with what Star Trek used to be.

      This isnt Star Trek, JJ.

We actually give a shit about this. George gets a lot of hate, but he crafted six episodes that were designed to contribute to the whole of Star Wars. And he didn’t cave to the demands of the masses. He put the story first (for better or worse…)

So don’t fuck it up, JJ. Make a great star wars film, not a mainstream sci-fi action reboot…

        @ hi:

I find it hard to believe Lucas put the story first when his PT scripts felt rushed and poorly thought out.

Even though Luke’s character was the true arc of the Original Movies, Han Solo had just as much screentime in Star Wars and Empire, and that worked well. Han Solo takes the edge off of the Star Wars movies where they don’t get TOO serious, and that is what was lacking in the Prequels. Luke gives us all of the Jedi serious stuff, and Han gives us all of the Relatable Guy/Funny stuff.

The thing that people forget is that the Original Star Wars movies were beloved by more then SciFi Geeks, as the average person could enjoy the movies, and Han Solo was a big reason why.

If fords injury was serious they would play it down I think, so as not to worry anyone. If gangrene had set in or a serious hospital infection had led to an amputation below the joint. We would not know that either. Do you think Disney would tell us if he had an amputation or not ? I doubt it.

Devin Faraci at Badassdigest is notorious for being utterly cynical about the new Star Wars film and continually hating upon JJ Abrams and STAR WARS 7, and he will say anything or relate any rumour that makes it look like the new film is in trouble.
He has the audacity to call fans ( of various franchises/movies ) “neckbeards”, even though he is clearly himself an overweight guy with a so-called ‘neckbeard’.

I called it yesterday that Fords scenes can be handled multiple ways…….like next year if need be, when they do the pick up shots. Or close ups, stunt doubles so on and so forth. It’s already been stated that they are not going to change the script.

“Still plenty of episode 7 parts to be cast?”

JJ & company are to wrapped up in the filming of said episode/multi million $ production/summer block buster/1st installment of the sequel trilogy of the greatest sci-fi franchise, to be worrying about who’s going to fill a last minute, uncast (important?) role folks. You do not start filming a film production of this magnitude without all the roles cast. The cast is in place…….we just don’t know who they all are yet. If any role/roles are left uncast at this point, it’s the extras, and the director has someone else to cast them for him.

I’m loving this Lego photo of the cast. 🙂 I love the Andy Serkis bit, especially the bit with the ring. Maybe Sauron, made his way to a galaxy far far away and we discover that the entire dichotomy of the Force is controlled by the One Ring. Luke and co. come in to possession of the One Ring and must travel to Moraband to destroy it. Serkis is not just another mo-cap character but actually Gollum himself. Maybe he will finally get his hands on the precious? lol

I suspected that that might be the general plot. It would seem to be the only plot that would make sense, in terms of Harrison Ford being the central character of the film, while still maintaining the focus on the Skywalkers for the episodic run.

Not to kill the optimism of the fans here, but I believe Han is out for six months or longer. I also believe they are going to have to rework the script because of HF’s injury. Just my intuition, but that’s how I perceive the situation.

Ok, I get it. You hate my comment. TheForce.Net board members are not afraid to discuss these possibilities. You guys really think Harrison is back in 8 weeks. An NBA draft pick just broke his lower leg bone and the kid is out 4-6 months. Harrison is what, 72 now, and he will be back in 8 weeks. And yes, I am psychic. If you don’t use your intuition, it will wither and die.

Speaking of un-casted parts, in his heyday Lucas had planned to cast Toshiro Mifune from The Seven Samurai in ANH. While I am dead against compromising quality for the sake of forced ethnic diversity, I would love to see a gritty and soulful asian actor in Star Wars. Koji Yakusho, who played the samurai, Mushashi, would work well as could some of the actors in those recent ultraviolet Korean films.
