Rumor: J.J. Abrams to Meet the Star Wars: Episode 7 Cast Tomorrow in London. Han Solo to Have a Gigantic Role?

star wars

This is just a rumor for now but it’s coming from Deadline. They are a pretty credible source and they are not famous with just posting random rumors on the web. So watch out for these…

From Deadline:

JJ Abrams has got a big table read tomorrow with the cast in London, and so he’s finally going to be forced to fess up shortly. There have been more rumors on this one than any film in recent memory, and here’s the latest.

star wars

I’m hearing that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac is in line for a major role, as is Adam Driver and Attack the Block’s John Boyega, both of whom have been rumored. There is also a young girl, and that might be Maisie Richardson-Sellers, an Oxford-trained actress whose casting has been rumored in recent weeks.

The new cast members will join returning Star Wars alums Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. The big surprise, I’m told, is that Ford has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films. Disney hasn’t been commenting on any of this, and today’s no different. Stay tuned.

Also Zac Efron made a brief comment on his possible involvement with the movie:

“I don’t know. I have no idea on that. There’s irons in the fire, so to speak. I don’t like to talk about anything too early because, you know, it takes a while to get these things done right. Who knows?”

Anyone want to interpret this as a sign that he’s going to get killed off?

It doesn’t at all mean that he will be killed-off.

      http://screenrant.com/indiana-jones-5-update-harrison-ford-star-wars-episode-7-disney/

“That said, Jedi News indicates that the actor didn’t get everything he was hoping for at this juncture – while Ford was happy with the portrayal and direction of his Han Solo character (which could include several films), “

Obviously we don’t know for sure, but this report was dead-on given the fact that John Williams has already publicly stated that he will be scoring an Indy 5. The whole Indy 5 was just a rumor before that. JW confirmed it. So I believe the article when it says that Ford was pleased with his arc and could be in more than 1 film.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Leia did die in Episode 7. However, I feel that Luke could live throughout the whole trilogy and set-up Episodes 10-12.

Harrison Ford wanted Han Solo to be killed off in RETURN OF THE JEDI and now it seems he will get his wish….

You may be right — Harrison may get his death. BUT it doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen in Episode 7. Besides, that is what everyone would be expecting.

IF Han does die I hope it’s doing something heroic in a real badass way. Oh, and I hope he doesn’t take the Falcon with him as he should pass it (and Chewie) on to his kids. LOL

I hope it’s not Han-centric. Ford has lost a lot of the passion he had in earlier roles. For him to to actively dislike Solo and then agree to a large role sounds fishy.. If this rumor pans out I hope he takes his job seriously and actually acts. Instead of what ever it.edu we got with Crystal Skull.

Harrison Ford’s acting was the least of the problems with Indy 4. You can’t be serious to think he was a problem. LOL

Shia LaBarf for starters . . . ants that can strip a human in under 60 seconds . . . nuclear proof refrigerators . . . sword fighting through the jungle and you’re worried about Ford’s acting?! LOL smh

    @ Forever.

I read this rumor earlier today and thought the same thing. Cram in as much Han Solo as they can before killing him off.

What’s this talk about killing off Han Solo? You can’t seriously believe they would do such a thing. Except for Vader Star Wars is not about tragic heroes. (And at the beginning, Vader wasn’t even a tragic hero, just an awesome villain.) It’s about good conquering evil. There are heroes we love, they win at the end, and they live happily ever after. Killing off Han Solo would definitely fit into our current über-cynical times, but not into Star Wars. And as I get it, JJ Abrams is trying to revive the original spirit of episodes 4–6, and not do “Star Wars Into Darkness”. 😉

I know, but that was in a different genre, and for a film series that has always tried to be relevant in terms of the world’s current state, terrorism, destruction, agony, espionage, war etc. Star Wars is pure escapism, wonderful basic and pure cinema, so can you infuse this kind of negativism and cynicism into Star Wars? Sure, you can break some rules, which is fine, but destroy the foundations? Nah. —— Joss (fka “Anonymous”).

PS: Luke or Leia dying… I wouldn’t have a problem with that. But Han is the one swashbuckling character, who always escapes at the end, does many wrong things, but somehow manages to get out of those tight spots, by himself or with the help of his friends. Killing him off would be the utmost betrayal. If anything, he should be the last man standing.

Joss, i’m really tired so i’m having trouble thinking but, the last two Star Trek movies and all of the Star Wars movies are the same genre. Correct me if you were speaking about something else.

Star Trek is science fiction, sometimes hard science fiction (if you include some TV episodes), and Star Wars is space fantasy opera. Totally different genre.

PS: Han needn’t be the last man standing. He could also be the first one fleeing. At any rate, he’s a survivor.

      Hmm…no?

What about Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda? In fact, what about the THOUSANDS of Jedi who were killed via Order 66? What about all of the Rogue Squadron fighter pilots we saw die in the battles of Yavin and Hoth?

Comments like this make me wonder if people actually watched the SW films for more than the fancy lightsaber duels and spectacular space battles…smh…

I’d have to agree that Ford has done a lazy acting job lately and I hope this rumor isn’t true. Supposedly Ford wanted Han Solo to die in episode six. I’d be okay with that character dying in episode seven as long as it’s a cool badass sendoff.

Killing off two of the Big Three in one fell swoop? No way. It would mean Ep 7 finishing on such a downbeat mood that people would leave the theatres feeling low. Not good for future movies. A New Hope was such a thrill ride and with such an upbeat ending that people were cheering in the aisles and leaving with a spring in their step. My feeling is that JJ will be aiming for a similar tone for Episode 7. For the same reason I doubt Han will die so early in the Sequel Trilogy.

A new hope? that film where Luke’s aunt an uncle are burnt to death? The film where obi-wan is sliced to death? That film is dark. You need dark moments in a film to emphasis the light. Empire is a lot of peoples favourite film because it’s the most emotional and it also has the most banter and laughs. You can have both. I personally really would like to see star wars go a bit deeper and more emotional.

Han Solo, I have to say is one of my favorite characters (and possibly my most favorite). It would be a hard thing to watch him die. That being said, Han Solo is human. All humans eventually die. Harrison Ford is 71 and will be rounding up to 80 when this trilogy is complete. Obi-Wan, another of my favorite characters, died in his early 60’s in ANH. Granted, Obi-Wan wasn’t done yet and still had a big part to play, but it’s not out of the question that Han Solo could die also. A heroic death for Han would be appropriate, as much as it pains me to say it. I just don’t want him to spend his last days in a galactic nursing home on Coruscant.

Those who want their heroes dead…, damn, what a world we living in when a fantasy character cannot be left alone to live a long happy life or ever after. Nooooo, you guys want your heroes dead. Dude’s in his 70’s, what you expect him to do? Sing and dance Bollywood style?

Hahaha…I love that mental image of Harrison Ford. No, I don’t want him to die – I just think it would be okay if they did. I just meant that if they do, I hope it’s a death worthy of his character. But in the end, I just want Han to be done right. By this, I mean written well. The more I think about it, an older, wiser, grumpy Han Solo, befitting of Harrison’s own personal transformation over the years might not be bad either. I have read a lot of EU material, but I personally don’t love what many authors did with Han’s character. The mushy stuff with Leia for instance. I see an older Han still playing that scoundrel type that we know and love. Still having his “moments”, not many of them, but still having them from time to time. A Han that despite all that he’s been through and seen regarding the force, still finds time to make a joke or snide remark about Hokey religions. A Han that respects Luke and his lightsaber wielding, but still thinks a good blaster at his side would do Luke some good. That’s what I love about Han Solo. Not his heroics necessarily or his sweet moments, but his cynicism and act first / think later attitude. If Harrison and the writers can resurrect this Han Solo, I will be devastated at his departure.

I don’t want Han to have a major role. What would his role even be? Plus, Harrison never puts in any effort with his roles anymore, and he has a rather sour taste for Han Solo anyway. Plus if Han has a big role, what about Leia and Luke? Do they have small roles then? The new cast should be the major roles anyway, while Han Leia and Luke should be the supporting cast like old-ben, yoda, lando etc etc.

I don’t think they’ll kill off Luke – his role throughout the 3 sequels should be akin to that of Obi-Wan’s. And I doubt they’ll opt to kill off Leia, either. So that just leaves Han for the big dramatic farewell!

Well Obi-Wan died in Episode IV so if Luke’s role was similar …

Personally if you told me I had to kill a member of the Big 3 I’d go with Luke. He’s very likely the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy and his subtraction makes whoever the villian is that much more threatening. It creates despair from the fact that Luke Skywalker won’t be swooping in to save the day again. If I were to get creative though I’d probably just rather see him captured or neutralized in some way to create the same effect.

Yeah, personally I’d rather see his continued development, even into a supporting role. It’s actually the best way to neutralize him as well. When Vader killed Obi-Wan he became “more powerful than you can ever imagine”. For instance, if Luke were in a coma or captured and surrounded by ysalamiri (or whatever they create) then he’s totally useless to the new heroes.

Captured or neutralized is preferrable to death, I agree. It just wouldn’t be too realistic, especially if it’s a Sith who’s behind it.

The Emperor didn’t want the Jedi “captured or neutralized”. He wanted them all erradicated from the universe altogether, because any Force-user with Jedi training will always be a threat to a Sith Lord.

So no, I don’t see Luke captured or neutralized. If something bad happens to Luke in Ep. VII, I think it’s safe to assume that we’ll be seeing him as a Force-ghost in the next 2 films, for sure.

There are several possibilities as to why a Sith (assuming that the villian is Sith) would keep Luke alive. They could try and convert him, use him as bait, harness his power in some way, attempt to clone him, or they could just be nuts. Unless they are being directed by the Emperor’s ghost (which is a decent possibility) then their motivation and tactics are pretty much up in the air. Really anything is possible at this point though.

Since Harrison Ford is tooold for any major physical fighting or maybe even moderate his character should become more clever with his age. Less Indiana Jones and more like Macgyver in that being clever enough to get out situation without getting into a straight up fight.

    This is a bad idea.

As much as I love the OT cast, and want to see them return, they really do need to have supporting roles in the new trilogy, to back up a new generation of heros and villains.

If anything, Luke ought to have the largest role here, not Han.

I wish we could just roll back the big 3 to the 80’s version of themselves and film the movie. I’m really not feeling Harrison Ford lately. He’s ok, but nothing like he used to be. He always seems to be overacting or underacting — it always seems a little forced.

Mark is actually good, he just went down the theatre and broadway route instead of film acting so everybody thinks he’s a bad actor. Carrie doesn’t enjoy acting but is very special, she can be really incredible. Harrison on the other hand just looks bored constantly. I’m very anxious, and to hear he has a big role in the film is rather frighting.
