UPDATE! Could Anthony Ingruber be Involved With Star Wars: Episode 7 After All?

Star Wars

Actor Anthony Ingruber who is mostly famous with his remarkable Han Solo impression has signed on a very secret project and revealed that he’ll make a huge announcement this week. Could this project be Star Wars: Episode 7?

(21 April, 2014)
First if you still haven’t seen his Han Solo impression you should do so. Here the actor himself posted it on Twitter on January 28.

Harrison Ford Impression … http://t.co/gY4obwr48n
— Anthony Ingruber (@AnthonyIngruber) January 28, 2014

Only 2 days later he revealed that a HUGE announcements is coming soon.

HUGE announcement coming soon!
— Anthony Ingruber (@AnthonyIngruber) January 30, 2014

Then he went quiet for a while. And shared more bits about his role on March 30.

been made to grow a big ol beard for this upcoming film role (still cant announce anything) but yeah its itchy http://t.co/Ho9yGzivES
— Anthony Ingruber (@AnthonyIngruber) March 30, 2014

And just a few days ago he tweeted this:

friends i know its been quiet but the announcement is coming hopefully next week! off to set today to film another scene, lets break 2 legs!
— Anthony Ingruber (@AnthonyIngruber) April 17, 2014

Now all this may not be Star Wars related but let’s have a closer look.

His first tweet about an upcoming huge announcement comes only a few days after the official press release that the Episode 7 script is ready and filming will start in May. And that post was made just after he again posted his Han Solo impression which he actually did back in 2008. So this looks like a strange coincidence.

Another thing worth mentioning is that according to him he is already filming some scenes for that movie. We already know that Episode 7 has started filming. And it’s strange that his IMDb page doesn’t have any ongoing project listed. If he was filming a regular movie it would have been surely listed there as “pre-production” or “filming”. This really suggests that the movie is big and top secret.

Star Wars

Another interesting thing is that Ingruber is no stranger to Disney. In 2010 he appeared in Disney’s Avalon High.

And now his final tweet completely matches with the expected Disney announcement on Thursday. So could he really be involved with the movie after all? He would make a great Solo kid.

This is just a speculation and all these tweets might be just a coincidence. I personally really hope he gets the part, even if it’s not related to Solo. He’s a great guy and really deserves it. I guess we’ll find out next week. I hope.

UPDATE!

(23 April, 2014)
It looks like Anthony Ingruber will indeed play young Harrison Ford but not in Star Wars. At least not for now. This is indeed huge news for the young actor. I’m really happy for him.

Ingruber will play the role of young William in the movie The Age of Adaline. Harrison Ford is playing the old William. The movie is being filmed right now and as you may remember Ford used an image from the set for his Reddit AMA.

Seems like an interesting character? Who could he play?

I’m not being rhetorical, they’re obviously not recasting solo.

Bracing myself for EU haters, He really looked like a Jacen Solo-ish character. He really let’s his beard grow in one of the novels. I know Jacen Solo doesn’t exist anymore, but if they take parts of the Jacen character and rename him, I really would take this as Han and Leias oldest son. My favourite in the EU as well.

Jacen Solo/ Darth Caedus is my favourite as well. He has indeed a beard in the dark nest novels, or at least in the first novel. Always wanted to see Jacen and Jaina on screen. Hopefully we will soon. Maybe with different names, but that’s probably something we’ll get used to

He would make a very cool Solo kid imho, & handing a major role to an unknown like Ingruber is in keeping with the Abrams/Kennedy philosophy of blooding new talent for the new generation of SW characters. And he’s young & has the sort of fresh faced appeal for a new generation of SW fans. Impressions aside (which are remarkable even if we leave out Harrison Ford) he’s probably got what it takes to be launched as a major new talent, & JJs direction would inspire the kind performance necessary to be in film as big as this. Could also be Disneys way of getting Harrison to pass the torch to a suitable successor for such iconic roles as Han Solo & of course, Indiana Jones. The enormity of which is also a bit of a stretch for someone like Ingruber who is, lets face it, basically untried and untested as an actor but some kind of pivotal role in EPVII might be enough to launch a new star. Wouldn’t be such a bad thing to be typecast as the ‘new Harrison Ford’ but I bet Ingruber wouldn’t mind, with voice down a good passing resemblance. Will be a bit crestfallen if Anthony sets his fans up for disappointing news, because he would know that they all want him as a ‘Solo’, & he seems a great choice for EPVII. Hope he gets a lucky break, reckon he deserves it.

With 30 years since the last movie, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were flashbacks…which would also set him up as Han in any spinoff movies that could hypothetically be made.

I honestly and unfortunatly doubt it has anything to do with EpVII 🙁

I honestly don’t think it’s Star Wars related. Han Solo is not the only impression he does. He does a lot of them. It could be for a comedy/spoof for all we know.

Sorry about that. Thank you for the clarification, Rebel Scum. Glad somebody’s got my back.
Yes, that is what I meant. Ingruber is an almost spitting image of a young Solo and would work very well in the role, I’m sure. I’m not saying I’ll die if he doesn’t play the son of Solo, I just think he’d do very well and he deserves a break like that to get out of small-time Disney channel movie gigs. I have faith that whoever they decide to cast as the new leads in EpVII will be chosen wisely. I’m just excited to see this movie next year!

Please no. No younger versions of characters pleeease. The film is set 35 years after ROTJ. Just… why do that? And if it’s for a different character then I hope not. Far better actors out there.

Maybe he won’t be in EP 7, but instead play a young Han Solo in one of the spin-offs! Not sure why he’d need a beard, but maybe they’re going to depict him in a ruff part of his life. Living on the streets of Courasant maybe? I mean we did see the Falcon in EP 3, so maybe he got her from Lando there? I dunno.

That seems like a waste of this kid’s incredible talent; not having him portray a young classic Ford character like Indy or Solo. He’d do far better than Flanery, if you ask me. Although, I’ll have to see this new film he’s in before making an accurate judgement of whether or not it’s a complete waste of his talent.

  • April 23, 2014 at 2:34 pm
    Permalink

to be honest seems like a flimsy premise to hire an actor because he does an impression. You mention Flanery, but I’d rather have an actor who makes the character their own than one because they look a lot a like etc.

Beyond this though,IMHO, I feel pretty uninterested in “young versions” of so and so. I’m not sure how interesting or sucessful its been yet. A young Godfather in Godfather 2 was pretty decent. Prequel versions of young star wars characters was okayish. Young indiana jones was not the worst ever and Xmen young versions wasnt too bad. Just seems a little like milking it.

I know it could be his kid but that video seemed more like a parlor trick than a good reason for him to play Han or Han’s son.

    Interesting post though.

there were a couple of other tweets quoting Alan Horn these are from Marc Graser from Variety …Disney’s Alan Horn says the new Star Wars movies will have budgets of around $175 million to $200 million

and… Disney’s Alan Horn on #StarWars: We need to give the audience a full meal in return for their affection, devotion, love for these properties

to give you an idea what that budget is like in terms of other movies they are thinking somewhere between Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor haha. http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/budgets/all

of course this doesnt really mean much, I’m sure Disney /star wars could do what they need on the theap, especially if they are leaning towards more practical effects… thoughts?

I agree with you, Lowhumming. There have to be some decent acting chops there in addition to the ability to do a good impression (or even a great impression like the one this kid does.)

However, I have to figure he’s got something going on other than the impression if the producers of this Age of Adeline flick are willing to cast him. Whether or not he’s a great actor remains to be seen. But if ALL he could do was that impression I don’t think the casting director would have gone for it.

As for him playing a young version of Han, I think we got all of the “Muppet Babies” treatment of classic SW characters that I could possibly stomach in the PT. I sure don’t want to see “Han Solo: Year One” or anything like that. Playing Han’s son? Now that I could see this kid doing. But I REALLY hope they don’t pull a “Baby Han” thing on us.

As viral updated it is huge news for the guy. Actually sounds too good to be true but to practically come out of nowhere and end up in a legit acting role playing the younger version of Harrison Ford’s character is incredible. Good luck to him, it will be a test of his acting ability and screen presence but I think someone has an eye on him and this is his chance to prove himself and maybe prove himself worthy of a gig in Star Wars. He would make a great young Han or son of Solo.

I think a young unknown of his ilk is exactly what JJ is looking for so we’re not going, “Hey! It’s that guy from that thing!” Nobody really knows this guy so he could fit in SW really well.

He probably would make a good [Jacen] Solo or whatever they decide to call him. At any rate, him scoring a movie with Harrison Ford is pretty huge regardless of it not being SW.

So HF and AI are both currently in the same film playing younger and older versions of the same character. Its actually remarkable. The stars could not have aligned better for the young man. All along the speculation surrounding him had to do with his uncanny ability to mimic Harrison Ford’s mannerism and likeness and to be a potential young Han Solo. Now, out of nowhere, he’s on set with the man himself. Amazing. The guy’s being tested or set up for the role of a lifetime. I wonder what projects either of them go on to next… ; )
