Rumor: Star Wars: Episode 7 to Film in Scotland’s Isle of Skye.

scotland

An interesting bit of info was posted in the Star Wars section at reddit.com. According to one of the members there some scenes from the upcoming Star Wars movie will be shot in Scotland at the Isle of Skye…

Here’s a direct quote from the source:

So I don’t have a link to absolutely definitive proof, but I was at the Isle this week, and ended up chatting to some local guys who had just been in extras in Michael Fassbender’s Macbeth which also shot there. They told me that Star Wars VII was coming to shoot some scenes there, and that a call for extras had gone around. So that sounds to me pretty definitive! Amazing place to shoot, and I look forward to seeing what they do with it!

scotland

This is not the first time we hear rumors about filming in Scotland. Back in May 2013 The Sun ran an article about the possibility of the production to head to Scotland’s Highlands and Isle of Skye:

“Location bosses feel Scotland possesses stunning scenery perfect for movie backdrops. They will look great on the big screen and the rock formations will replicate the perception of mountainous planets. It will be the first time Star Wars has ever been shot north of the border.”

Some of the Scotland sceneries definitely have the alien world feel and the crew could use that, instead of filming in a studio on a green screen.

Scotland has been pretty popular filming location lately. Some of the productions that partly were filmed there are: Skyfall, World War Z, The Dark Knight Rises etc.

Other rumored Episode 7 filming locations so far are New Mexico, Ireland, Iceland and Jordan.

Awesome. It reminds me of the open, rocky, grassy, mountainous stuff from New Zealand that they filmed in the lord of the rings films, and we haven’t seen anything like that in star wars yet. I’d say there’s a lot of truth to this from what he says. Plus it looks exactly like the landscape in one of the concept art paintings in the production meeting photo they put on the lucasfilm website.

That makes sense, I mean look at all of those terrain types that an entire planet consists of in the films. Alderaan was only seen for a few seconds, mountainous is what we’ve seen the least of I think.

The only thing sucking around here it your attitude. Damn people we are talking about Star Wars. We can debates things but is hostility really necessary?

Example… I hate the prequels… but I’m not going to insult or hate the people that like them.

“Example… I hate the prequels… but I’m not going to insult or hate the people that like them.”
That’s actually a really good point. Prequel fans have this idea that OT fans bash them all the time. But all I ever see is the prequel fans dealing the bashing. Apparently I’m not a “real fan” and I only like the OT because of “my childhood”. Even though I’m 18 and was first introduced to the prequels, and guess what, I hated them. Then I later watched the originals and loved them ever since. But I was surrounded by kids my own age who had no idea what they were talking about and bashing me all the time because I hated the prequels and thought they were mind-numbing tosh. Then as I grew up, and I also got friends who agreed with me, I found out how bad the reviews were of the prequels and I realised I was actually in the right. If you subjectively enjoy the prequels, then fine, it doesn’t matter to me at all. We all LIKE different things, good or bad, and are aloud to like different things. People enjoy Justin Bieber when I think it’s a load of tosh but I’m not going to whine about it to people who do enjoy it. What matters is when the fanboys don’t shut up about it to those of us who do realise how objectively bad the prequels are. And now that I’ve said this, I’ll probably get a flock of people telling me how awful I’m being or whatever when I haven’t said a single negative thing about the fans.. It just never ends.

THE PREQUELS WERE GOOD, I CAN’T SEE HOW YOU CAN BE A STAR WARS FAN AND NOT LIKE SOMETHING IN THE PREQUELS, MEANWHILE THESE SAME FAN BOYS WHO HATE THE PREQUELS LOVE THOSE HORRIBLE NOVELS AND LAME VIDEO GAME STORIES. THE IRONY.

I will be very happy if it’s new planets. We need to get back to the frontier, as that 4 things that make Star Wars great video said, and Tatooine is way too overused.

    • March 2, 2014 at 6:15 am
      Permalink

Tatooine is way too overused… but then I can say the same thing about the so-called Big 3, the Millenium Falcoln, the cantina, and every other visual motif OT fans constantly say “bring back, bring back” on these forums.

    • March 2, 2014 at 12:54 pm
      Permalink

lol, classic OT fan bashing rubbish. I always check the comments and I have never seen anybody say, (so let alone ‘constantly say’) bring back the cantina, tatooine, and “every other visual motif”.. I’ve only seen people talk about using practical effects and bringing back the big 3, which doesn’t take a genius to work out makes sense as they’re the main characters. They can’t just randomly vanish from one episode to the next without some kind of ‘passing down the torch’ to the next main characters.

    • March 2, 2014 at 4:00 pm
      Permalink

The OT is the last thing I’d bash, trolls. For anyone else:

You guys miss the point. Tatooine is in the middle of nowhere, “If there’s a bright center of the universe, this is the planet that it’s farthest from.”. Yet, ir’s in all but one of the films. Combine that with the Expanded Universe, and I am downright sick of the place.

    • March 2, 2014 at 4:18 pm
      Permalink

Um well I was replying to the anonymous. I’m not a troll. But yeah I don’t want to see Tatooine in ep7 as we’ve seen it enough. I mean it would be nice to visit it again in ep9 as a nice round-off because it’s star wars’ most iconic planet, but as well as new stories and characters, I’m a fan of the universe so I’m looking forward to seeing new places.

I wonder is this movie won’t be postponed until a later date, saying May 2016 for instance?
No official news. Rumours from quite reliable sources (Variety, Hollywood Reporter…) saying nothing has been signed with some actors. Is this really encouraging when it’s about 2 months prior to the filming? I have a bad feelling about this.

Or, they are actually keeping them secret so they can reveal them at once to avoid pressure. Look at how many people get hassled over their POTENTIAL roles in the films, multiply that by a hundred if they announced every confirmed addition. 100% of their interviews would be Star Wars stuff they couldn’t answer anyway.

      Hello,
Yes, it would make sense. Because I can’t believe they will tell only at the very last moment the actors if they’re going to play in Episode VII or not. I guess the production must give a certain time to the cast to ensure everyone is available at the right time.
