“The Inquisitor, the Empire’s Jedi hunter and a major new villain in the highly anticipated Star Wars Rebels animated series, was unveiled by Lucasfilm at this year’s New York Comic Con. Today, StarWars.com is excited to present the official reveal for the character’s first ever 3.75-inch action figure from Hasbro.

The figure — the first to be seen from the upcoming Star Wars Rebels Saga Legends line — features five points of articulation, show-accurate accessories, and is sculpted in the art style of the series. Look for the Inquisitor and the Star Wars Rebels Saga Legends line to hit store shelves in fall 2014.”

It’s not bad. What i really don’t like is his lightsaber. Why don’t use a “normal” red one?

It’s the empire, they like overdoing things people don’t like. Oh yeah, and I forgot, we’re talking about disney here.

I agree. I thought Maul’s double blade was cool, but otherwise hate alternate saber weapons.

Agree. The design looks lazily done. They could have just made his hilt a lot cooler looking rather than just going with putting the whole thing inside of a circular hand guard… but that wouldn’t really make much sense because a Lightsaber is multen plasma and it’d slice right through any sort of hand guard, like a rapier or something. What’s the point of this design?

Still it was said that Vader hunted down the remaining Jedi. Plus by the time we get to episode 4 it seems like the Jedi have been extinct for a while but the way they’re playing it out makes it seem like the last Jedi killed was right before the events of ep 4.

actually in the novel version of the original SW, it states that Vader and others like him hunted down the last of the jedi, & that Vader served the Emperor & OTHERS, helping them rise to power…in the movie SW, Han Solo told Kenobi that ‘it isn’t OFTEN one sees that sort of sword play in this part of the Empire any more’, this could be taken as literal to back these particular stories up. don’t get me wrong, if you don’t like this idea of Rebels, this obviously will not change your mind. personally, i’m anxious to see where this goes…i also happen to like the lightsaber design.-prymal

It looks like Disney wanted to make a cool character like Darth Maul but chickened out halfway through because Darth Maul is a prequel character and that would offend the older generation, so they just repainted his face and dressed him up like Moff Tarkin.

They really should have just made him a human. If he wore a hood or partial mask, or something, that would have looked far better than this.

His look is clearly copied from the son from the Mortis trilogy of TCW:

I don’t like the look of the lightsaber. I’m really hoping the blades don’t spin around the circular part. That would be awful.

I agree…. very disappointing that they have ripped off the son from the Mortis trilogy….. It weakens it all…

It could be that those laws were not ut into place until a few years before episode IV. Perhaps at the end of the Rebels series, once all of the jedi have been killed, Vader decapitates the inquisitor, leaving himself as the last existing manipulator of the Force, or so he thinks. That might be pretty cool.

That lightsaber design sucks! Its stupid and reminded me of the Hasbro General Grievous (spell?) toy lightsaber which looks much better than that crap this Inquisitor is holding!

I agree, there should certainly be a lot of Vader in this series, as long as they don’t animate him as poorly as they have this guy. Why don’t they just have Tarkin be Vader’s right hand man in wiping out the last of the Jedi? What happens to this “inquisitor” by the time episode IV occurs? I have a feeling this asshole is gonna be the Ashoka of this new series…

This is not something that’s sitting well with me. I’m really not a liking the design of this villain or his weapon. He’s really not the kind of intimidating, powerful sonofabitch that Vader’s characer posed in the OT. This guy just kinda looks like Disney’s attempt at building a middle ground between the CW series and the OT that’s just really not turning out too well, so far. I’m still very curious to see how this plot will develope and how it will work at channeling the original story through to the events in episodes IV, V and VI. I hope that the skill of the writers and producers of the show make up for the poor character design we’ve seen so far. The stormtroopers looked okay, but a bit too cartoony.

Thats the trouble with the newer series being released lately. TMNT, TCW, Beware the Batman; it’s all animated junk. The day that the company heads of these TV stations realize that real, genuine 2-D cartoon animation is the way to present these things as we have successfully done for years, is the day that will restore hope to the childhoods of future generations.

The majority of shows currently aired is almost unbarable to watch. The dialouge and plots may be fair, but I cannot take any of my favorite characters seriously anymore, and I’m sitting there, watching, wondering what’s happened?

That’s my feeling too, Dopeyjoe. I’m taking a wait-and-see attitude about the new Rebels series, but so far I’m not exactly champing at the bit to see it. This villain looks pretty vanilla to me, and the rumor that the whole series will revolve around a band of precocious young teenagers also doesn’t bode well.

So far, it reeks of a TV show born of endless market research memos. I hope to be proven wrong on that, though.

Not happy with this dude… looks like he should be in the senate, not hunting down jedi or anything else for that matter. Lightsaber looks lame and un-inventive/not well thought through. Hopefully this guy is nothing more than a support player and limited in “action”… I am still VERY hopeful and excited for this series to kick off, but come one DISNEY/Rebels character designers… You HAVE to better than this…. Pretty Please???

So far Disney has yet to design a character in the Star Wars Universe. Disney only Is the name of a deceased creator who’s name still exists over the company that he created that owns Lucasfilm.
Dave Faloni is overseeing Rebels as well as finishing up Clone Wars. He is paid by The Walt Disney Co., but I’m sure he has yet to be dragged into Bob Igers office by Kathleen Kennedy and ordered to water down Star Wars and put mouse ears in every shadow.

It does have to make money and I’m sure the feasible marketing of a Character is thought of in early stages, Lucas was doing this to Star Wars as far back as 1974 when he was designing it. Spielberg even said ET was his attempt at a Disney-esque Film. Some designs will be favored while others go stale. This trilogy I’m sure will have its variants of Gungans & Ewoks.

The cartoons are for the younger demographic. And as always will be a recycling and will have hand-me-down design, from the shots that Clone Wars mimic and this Inquisitor character is a blend of Tarkin,Vader,Maul with a little Greivious.

Lucas while discussing pre-vis for prequels mention Hybrid Design. Where Star Wars draws from Mainstream films like Wizard of Oz, Sergio Leone, and Kurosawa. The secondary Star Wars projects mainly draw from the main cannon of the saga. Adults will catch on fast, but the younglings of fandom will not catch it as easily. One must admit the Clone Wars was a step up from previous animated projects, ie Driods, Holiday Special short vignette.

What is it with this demand and pathetic obsession for a lightsaber?? Why has star wars turned into mediocre characters, but with a lightsaber attached to them, to force some kind of bigger reaction out of the audience?.. I mean Darth Maul was so boring as a villain, he didn’t even do or say anything particularly interesting, yet he had a cool design and double edged lightsaber so people genuinly think he’s a good character, and some idiots actually believe his fight was the best fight in the entire trilogy! Then the same with General Grievous, he had 4 lightsabers for goodness sake.. Why? Although at least general grievous actually had a character, although it was just a pretty weird character for the most part. With Rebels, I was hoping that they would make the villain back to basics- a very strong character, with not much frills. Darth vader is awesome with or without a lightsaber, he is extremely unique. It’s the same with the emperor, Yoda, ben-kenobi, etc etc. Sure they have a lightsaber, but that’s not what they’re known for. The emperor and yoda never originally had a lightsaber in the original trilogy, and they were much better characters for it. They didn’t need to rely on a flashy stick for babies to enjoy as they twirl them around with another boring character twirling around an equally boring lightsaber.. I’m so sick of babies demanding lightsabers, It’s about the fight and the characters, not the pretty colours for goodness sake. And now in Rebels it looks like we have yet another character who isn’t anything new that we’ve seen before, and, of course, has a lightsaber to make him ‘interesting’. Anyway, *sigh*. Watch the Rebels trailer, it says, “The Jedi will rise.”..
Ugh, I’m looking forward to seeing the style of the original trilogy coming back, seeing a decent story, humour, and a fun group of characters like Han Luke and Leia on the ‘ghost’ ship or whatever it’s called. I guess I’ll have to go make food when all the pointless scenes start with the lightsaber shlock and pretend it’s not happening. I mean Rebels is about how the rebel alliance starts, and it’s about the empire vs rebels. What has a lightsaber got to do with anything? This has nothing to do with sith vs jedi, The jedi were pretty much extinct, and there can only be two sith, which in this time it’s vader and palpatine/the emperor. We’ve never heard about this person who hunts down the remaining jedi or whatever. It’s established in A New Hope that it was vader who did it.. I was hoping the main villain would be somebody like grand moff tarkin or somebody with actual relevance.

I hope that Rebels captures the smaller scale dangers that the earlier novels (Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, Han Solo & Lando Calrissian Trilogies). One of the things that later novels seemed to do was over state the dangers PAST the heroes, everything was galaxy wide dangerous! Nothing was just immediate to the plot or characters, but the entire galaxy’s safety seemed to hinge on whether Han wore a blue shirt or a red one, but then Han’s safety seemed guaranteed regardless and only the galaxy at large was in danger…it’s the little things that kill and I hope Rebels remembers this and brings that feeling back.-Prymal
