    Storm trooper blocking a lightsaber?

    • November 13, 2015 at 6:26 am
      Permalink

I was thinking the same thing too. But not even that, since when has the “Empire…” Basically, ANY blaster weapon, been able to block/parry a lightsaber? An electrostaff or vibrosword I’d understand but a flamethrower being able to withstand a lightsaber is a little crazy. Not like you’d come across many of those during that era I would think…

Seems more rent-a-composer to me – not the same “quality” as the trailer’s music. I would like to think that beyond the first teaser, we’re not going to hear any real JW cues from the soundtrack until film’s release? Just a speculation though…

I have read the Entertainment Weekly articles, and it seems a possible plot is there. I think it is a pity we can wonder all this, a bit more mistery could be nice. POSSIBLE SPOILERS? As Rey is left by her family in Jakku when she was 5. I remember the character of Max Von Sydow was realted to her, but we have not heard about him again. Well I have imagined that Kylo and Rey are Skywalkers, Kylo was captured when he was a kid by the rebuilding empire known as First Order, and to hide her from them they leave Rey in Jakku. Then at the start of the movie First Order Stormtroopers appear looking for her, it is the moment when Han and Chew come to meet her (her family) after Finn and may be Poe had known her already. It could be a possibility, who knows?
Also it could be that they are playing with us in the trailers.

Quite the contrary. The editor was pissed because of their insistent control over secrecy. Said he’s never been denied full privy to a major cover story in his entire career [laughs.] It’s very apparent in the article(s) that they haven’t really revealed much of anything.

Nice! I wonder if that new music is Rey’s theme?

At any rate, the most exciting shot for me was whatever that electrostaff blocking Finn’s saber was. Do stormtoopers have magnaguard staffs now? Or was that Rey saving a stormtrooper from being killed?

Lastly, Kylo’s line: “I will show them the Dark Side”. I wonder if he means that he will show them the temptation and make them join the dark side, or if he means I will show them the wrath and destruction of the Dark Side.

Many things to think about for the next 35 days…

Yesm I believe that he is talking about wrathful vengeance. Remember the Jedi did Return in the last Episode, now it’s time for the Dark side to have its day. Well, I think we all know by now that the story is about everyone looking for Luke, including Kylo, so it makes sense he’d arm his squad of Storm Troopers with updated versions of the electrostaffs that were so effective against lightsabers in the Clone Wars. While there’s no way I’m gonna defend the Prequels, I will say that Jedi were thought to be extinct by the OT, so no need to arm troopers with Jedi-fighting weapons, whereas in TFA, they are specifically hunting a Jedi. It’s all just wild speculation, but it does make some sense.

Not completely convinced that Rey is the daughter of Han and Leia. The backstory is so weird. Dumping her on a desertplanet. Then come back and pick her up. “Hope you had fun” on this dustball. Lots of explaining to do. But soon we will know.

        • November 13, 2015 at 10:45 am
          Permalink

No, not much explaining because Rey was with Han in the Falcon before being forced down to Jakku. Leia believed all had perished when the Falcon went down. The 1st Order captures Han, Chewie and another leaving Rey behind. She was too young to know anything but her family would return one day. This is why she still has the Falcon.

          • November 13, 2015 at 1:31 pm
            Permalink

That makes sense and would explain both Han’s and Rey’s absence. However, it’s just a rumor at this point.

I believe the rumor that has a solid backing in facts. I am sure that this is one of the more logical explanations on why Rey is on Jakku and why she has the Falcon.

          • November 13, 2015 at 8:19 pm
            Permalink

It also explains the origin of Kylo Ren too. He was on board the Falcon too. He was given to the Red blades because he is force sensitive. The Red Blades as they are called in Rebels are part of the Dark Force Users from a Dark Force planet alluded to in Aftermath. I believe on the Dark Force using planet the others meet Supreme Leader Snoke who formed the 1st order and the knights of Ren.

It was mentioned somewhere early on that Rey was supposed to be trained by Luke, and his students were ambushed when he was away from the training center. The Knights of Ren slaughtered most of the children, but took Kylo to become one of them. Rey somehow managed to escape or something to that nature. How she ended up on Jakku would still be a mystery, but… Maybe the Vicar had something to do with saving her.

Here’s my take. I have a feeling that Max Von Sidow’s daughter was Luke’s lover and this is why Sidow has protected and looked after Rey. “Rey, I am your Grand Pappy.” His daughter has planted the seed in him that the Empire and his life’s work were in vain. She leaves her father’s ship to begin a new life and meets a mysterious cloaked stranger with a robotic hand, in a cantina, with groovy jazz. His name is Luke Skywalker and he falls for the former imperial hottie. They have a baby. The First Order finds Luke (Snoke feels Luke’s presence) and attacks. The mother dies, the baby is rescued by Sidow, ala Obi Wan, and Luke barely escapes with his life. During the struggle Luke is overcome with anger. He loses control and tastes the dark side once again. He cannot forgive himself for putting his family at risk, just as he put his sister at risk during his battle with Vader. Seeing himself as a danger to those he loves he goes into hiding, communes with the force…and waits. Somehow all of that is in the opening crawl. Meanwhile, Sidow and Rey are stranded amongst the wreckage of the Battle of Jakku. Sidow grows to hate the Empire for the death of his daughter and Rey is not told of her father’s past, yet she feels something awakening within her. The New Order continues to ravage the galaxy, raping and pillaging and building big blowy-uppy things, and Luke feels the voices crying out and falling silent. When the First Order return to Jakku the loose ends are all brought together (because JJ), Han and Chewie and Mr. Spock are aboard one of the Imperial vessels. They escape. They meet Rey. Han “has a feeling” he knows the girl. A storm trooper goes awol and finds Luke’s light saber at a yard sale, because JJ. He meets up with Rey too because she is smoking hot. WELL, SHE IS! Von Sidow dies helping them all escape on the Falcon, ala Obi-Wan. Meanwhile, Han and Leia’s kidnapped son, who is strong with the force, has been brainwashed by the First Order and raised by a religious cult of neo-Sith Nazzis. His power is so much stronger than any Snoke has seen that he is groomed for something big and given the name Kylo. By the way, Snoke is actually Palpatine’s immortal master. The true “Phantom Menace.” Kylo follows his force sense and combs the Galaxy for Sith/Jedi relics. Star Wars yard sales have a lot of cool shit like that. He feels the conflict within but does not recognize why. He is desperate for answers, has great hair, and is, like, super angsty. His mother tries to commune with him via the force but her skills are weak. “Can you hear me now?” The female trooper Captain Phasma (who is Snoke’s concubine and likes to do it with the helmet on) has become a mother figure of sorts to Kylo, and does her best to keep the youth focused, but he grows increasingly unstable and strong. She fears him. Meanwhile, General Princess Leia Organa-Solo who is leading the resistance force (and is not on speaking terms with Han) is tracking the progress of a new super-duper-death-star-planet (many Bothans died to…) and launches a full scale war on the New World First Order. When all is about lost Han swoops in and says, “Let’s blow this thing and go home.” Han and Kylo meet during this battle. Han, who has bonded rather quickly with Finn, is mortally wounded just as Luke appears. Luke is handed his old lightsaber and whoops Kylo’s ass. Kylo cries like a bitch, snaps out of Snope’s evil spell, and says he wants his mommy. Chewie and Finn Calrissian team up and fly off in the Falcon. Everyone in the theater cries. Luke and Rey ride off into the sunset to train for round two. The end.

Han and Lando loose their sons to the New Order in an attack. The boys were together. Luke is the New Hope. Rey is the “Ray of Hope” Luke’s little girl.

Agreed. This cast is superb. I know a lot of people are hating on JJ’s Star Trek reboot (though they were wildly successful) but his casting for those movies was superb; so im not surprised how well he had done with the Star Wars cast. Daisy is a gem and I hope this ST doesnt type cast her for the rest of her career. Id love to see her naked …er I mean in other movies.

If a non-sensitive uses a lightsaber I’ll be pissed. The reason why jedi and sith were the only ones capables of wield a lightsaber was thank’s to their force sensitivity, which avoided at all moments to tear themselves in pieces. Electric staff, however, is different thing.

I think you are a little confused…It has never been said that only Jedi and Sith were the only ones capable of wielding lightsabers….anywhere at anytime in the history of Star Wars. ‘Using’ a lightsaber and wielding it successfully against a trained, force-sensitive opponent are two different things. Anybody could do the former.

    • November 13, 2015 at 9:00 pm

There is zero reason why a non force sensitive person couldn’t use a lightsaber. That being said, its not a very useful weapon without the force. A force user can use the force to anticipate blaster shots and use the saber as a defensive weapon, even redirecting laser shots for offense. A force user can also deflect lighting with a saber. For a non force user a blaster makes more sense as a weapon.

Uggghh. More X Wings flying over a super weapon. Didnt we see that in 2 movies already? I was hoping the “attack on the super weapon” was more rumor than reality. Oh yes, I wasn’t complaining actually. 🙂 I think it makes a LOT of sense. Especially knowing that the First Order/Knights of Ren is basically an Anti Luke/Vader Worshiping cult (at least it appears that way at the moment.) With Stormies raised from birth to see Luke as some type of anti-christ/demon that turned on his father and murdered the rightful ruler of the Galaxy they SHOULD be prepared to fight Lightsabers and possibly even be mentally trained to defend against some force powers.
