Why does that alien have a perfectly normal human hand?

I think it’s probably sat on the person who belongs to that arm, and they are quite decently making sure they don’t spill their cocktail despite being slowly suffocated/crushed.

      I’m tired of put-mask-on-human = alien.

Love the use of practical f/x … but would it kill the costume & effects peeps to come up with say an alien with something different than:
      2x human proportioned arms / std wrist/elbows/shoulders
      2x human proportioned hands / 5-fingers
2x human proportioned legs (+pants/dress) / std ft
2x eyes, nostrils, slitted mouth below nose

Just *some* variety in the otherwise Star Trek text-book: put some makeup on the face.

With Lucasfilm/Disney available talent w/puppeteer’ing / CGI capabilities, it’s a shame we’re seeing so many traditional “aliens”.

Maybe this pic was taken pre-CGI…very odd looking though…reminds of something i would see on a 80’s Dr Who

Yeah, the aliens in these Disney Star Wars movies have been pretty unimaginative. But I guess that is pretty indicative for a rather creatively bankrupt sequel trilogy overall. Smh. But hey! Kennedy/Abrams are giving us a GFFA that is similar to ‘our universe’!

Holy shit, do you work for Disney/Lucasfilm? Who tf are you to dictate what they should look like…?

I mean, do you even understand how the majority of practical effects are created? With a human inside or a puppet, you can only PRACTICALLY do so much without it looking completely unrealistic considering it is fake. There are limitations. Not to mention making an entire feature film on a budget. It’s a slap in the face to the talented artists who created these. I’m sorry, but can you better? Dude you flip burgers for a living, stick to what you know best.

Let me guess, you’re the same person bitching about too much CGI in the prequels. Was Sebulba humanoid?

Your reply made me chuckle. For many reasons. Interesting you ask – for whom I work? While I’ll not answer that in a public forum, nor due I currently work for/with Disney, due to your references of industry, I’ll put this in context. My background in special effects (practical&cgi) goes back to the early modern era, including dating myself…cgi from the 70s through to modern CGI. So your attempted ad hominem “flip burgers” & insulting ‘you know nothing about’ are particularly wasted on me in relation to this subject matter.

Re: “Holy shit”…”Who tf are you to dictate”
Obviously that could be a reasonable reply to what you wrote.
          And…fyi, I’m not dictating.
Ostensibly we can express an opinion in forums such as these. Then agree/disagree/debate/comment on /etc as a discussion goes. No reason to be insulting/on the offensive. If you disagree with something specific I expressed, please expand on that topic/point. Otherwise, good day.

Re: “Let me guess, you’re the same person bitching about too much CGI in the prequels. Was Sebulba humanoid?”
Exactly the opposite is true – I’m not bitching about CGI use in prequels. [ again, see my background/industry ]
Selbulba – actually liked him compared to some of the other featured cg characters. That he at least didn’t have std humanoid body.
Interesting that you mention ‘bitching about’…CGI..”the prequels”. An area to defend the prequels, that everyone should agree upon, was very good quality practical f/x. What’s ironic is that much of what people assume to be cg is actually a practical set/model that’s just integrated tightly alongside & filmed (lighted/coloured).
Their were more physical practical f/x in just TPM than used in all of OT. Yes, tremendous cg as well. My point being that most people should agree that from purely a practical effects category, there was much to be lauded in prequels. Not to mention cutting edge cg+practical integration.

Although I may be down voted for my mention of practical effects alongside prequels… 😉 … I’ve taken that risk as I just had to point out that 100% of what you said/thought about me(/my opinions) was wrong.
          Hmmm… now a practical f/x Sebulba spinoff film? 😉

I really hope that we will see some strange CGI aliens. I’am bored of ”man in a suit” or ”man with mask” aliens. I want some strange looking aliens that can be done only with CGI.

And the best done cgi cannot be told from practical when shot/used properly.
Bad cgi gives good cgi a bad name & all that.
It will be great to see inventive new aliens & cg can certainly create those w/o boundaries, as well cg can augment practical.
I’d also really like to see practical effects pushed to modern (heh..budgetary) limits with these movies.
All brushes in the artists’ hands.
With SW films, I always imagined that there could be any kind of alien around the next corner. To give us some interesting ones & take some risks.

Because she/he is an alien. 😉 In many scifi sagas i have read, races are able to modify the DNA, implanting genes from other planets and civilizations species, segregate hormones depending on their moods, change the gender whenever they want and live 1000 years regenerating in other bodys.
If i think of it, i find hilarious this hand with this body. Can’t wait to see this bizarre galactic casino

Strange looking thing- great! In the 80’s the action figures of aliens were always named after what they look like ‘squid head’ ‘prune face’ etc. So with this cantina patron I hope I can look forward to seeing a ‘Scrotum head’ action figure soon.

To the people who run this site – Please don’t post these pictures on the main landing page every day like you did with this one! I am trying to avoid spoilers, so I carefully read the titles of all articles to decide whether I want to read the article or not. Putting these pictures up on the main landing page is akin to throwing spoilers around without a spoiler warning! Just put the Topps logo or something.

Yes, I was hesitant about this. I knew it could be considered spoilerific by some, so we won’t use the actual images as title photos in the future.

Thank you. I appreciate that. Everyone has their own definition of what constitutes a spoiler. I enjoy checking this site daily and really don’t want to have to stop doing that. Overall, you guys do a great job of controlling spoilers, which is why I continue to frequent this site. Keep up the great work!

If it’s material officially released through Lucasfilm or its partners I don’t think it can fairly be considered spoiler material. Especially if it doesn’t reveal important plot points. You should probably just steer clear of Star Wars news sites for a few weeks. You can’t expect them to have a text-based site. They need to drive traffic to these pages.

Rian has already stated that they are only showing a select bit of imagery in the trailers, teasers, etc… I don’t really understand why you’re coming to this site for any other reason than to get the latest. I guess we can all just whine, get our way and blame it on the site, instead of having a little self control. Because at this point, anything ‘could’ be considered a spoiler. I ingested every bit of ‘spoiler’ material for TFA had to offer, and guess what, I was surprised as hell and didn’t have a damn thing ruined when I saw the movie for the first time.

If you don’t want spoilers, go back in mommy’s basement, have her take away your internet privileges and wait until she takes you to the movie in a few weeks.

And you have thus proven yourself to be someone who is not to be taken seriously, because you infuse your posts with childish belittlements more befitting of a playground than an adult conversation.

Considering Viral’s response below, I consider my request justified.

Coming form the guy(?) that felt the need to post about being spoiled from a CHILDS playing card when you know good and well that this site is, a news site for a yet unreleased movie. What did you think will be on this site…

Headline: Star Wars takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away… (Oops did I spoil it for you?)

Let me ask you this, have you watched the trailers? I bet you went to YouTube, watched those and complained that they didn’t have a spoiler free tag associated.

You know my problem is (and same with Viral) that people are so damn quick to criticize and complain when they aren’t the ones curating the information, publishing the site or creating the material for the movie. Unless you can do it better, pipe down. If you don’t want spoilers, don’t visit the site, don’t watch tv, don’t go to the toy store. Don’t even open your eyes for that matter until the 14th. You need to be a big boy and say to yourself “hey, if I don’t want to be spoiled I probably shouldn’t go to a site that is/has been/and will continue to be riddled with quote/unquote “potential spoilers.”

I’m guessing I hit a nerve, did mommy tuck you in yet?

I think if you are this spoiler sensitive it’s time to back away from this site, any news feeds, social media or basically the internet!

I’m not interested in spoilers myself so I’m going to see how late I can leave it before I take my own advice. Hopefully before I see something that I can’t unsee.
