UPDATE 2! 26 New Rogue One Images Revealed via Topps Trading Cards + New Character Name!
Entertainment Weekly got their hands on 6 exclusive Topps trading cards, revealing never before seen images from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Check them out…
From Entertainment Weekly:
We begin with a badass female X-wing pilot. Her name: unknown for now. But the V symbols inside the array of yellow dots on her helmet stand for kill counts, each one tallying 20 enemy fighters. Whoever she is, she’s flown around the block a few times.
General Merrick is a character we haven’t met before in Star Wars lore, although fans spotted this actor in the Rogue One behind-the-scenes footage from Celebration, cackling with glee as he settled into the cockpit to shoot a scene. One thing you can say for the Rebellion — their generals get right into the thick of battle.
Fans have only gotten a few glimpses of this Gigoran creature, an abominable snowman-looking being. (To me, he looks like an upright version of Falkor from 1984’s The NeverEnding Story.) Moroff breathes with the help of a respirator (the atmosphere back home must be different in some way) while hauling heavy munitions on his broad frame. In the behind-the-scenes clip, we saw his wispy fur wafting as he ran, and in the new trailer he can be spotted scurrying for cover in the midst of a firefight on the Force-sacred world of Jedha. Moroff likes trouble. He’s a mercenary, and trouble is where the money is.
In Star Wars, planets come with only one environment (snow, water, desert, forest) but now it seems creatures of the same species can come in different varieties. We’ve seen the Mon Calamari before in the form of lobster-red Admiral Akbar — first introduced in Return of the Jedi and still fighting the good fight 30-some years later in The Force Awakens. These are the same type of being, except in a hue of pale blue. Hey, color is only shell-deep.
Here we see Edrio Two Tubes and his brother (also known as an “egg-mate”) Benthic. Which is which … ? Edrio has the Darth Vader-looking chest plate. They’re mercenary pilots from the Empire-occupied world of Yar Togna, and they get their nickname (obviously) from the breathing apparatus that helps them breath human-friendly atmosphere.
This card doesn’t reveal the type of being we’re looking at, but they are pilgrims on the Force-sacred world of Jedha, where those with special sensitivity to this supernatural power, and those who simply have faith in it, venture to connect with each other and the beyond. The Empire also has designs on this world, hoping to rip from it elements necessary for their continued conquest of the galaxy. The masks of this trio call to mind the unusual helmets of the Guavian Death Gang, the red-armored figures pursuing Han Solo and Chewbacca in The Force Awakens. The cloaks they’ve shrouded themselves in suggest something commonplace from our world – the cocoons of a moth or butterfly. Maybe their journey to Jedha is part of a metamorphosis.

UPDATE 1!
EW also spoke with director Gareth Edwards and revealed the name of the character played by actor Alistair Petrie (image above) who appears in the Rogue One trailers.
Rogue One director Gareth Edwards says no, Petrie is simply playing an Alliance leader we haven’t seen before. “His name’s General Draven,” Edwards says.
The filmmaker was surprised that wasn’t already widely known. “It’s no official secret,” he says. “Sometimes I read stuff online like it’s this big thing that’s been leaked, and I thought, ‘Oh, I thought people knew that.’”
UPDATE 2!
Making Star Wars uncovered even more Topps trading cards, revealing several cool looking shots at some new characters from the movie.

Hype, hype hype! Is it known when the ticket preordering starts?
Not yet.
Wohh! Those guys at Jedah are awesome.
*Jedha
Love that a general is going out flying combat missions.
This one bugs me, I thought generals were for land battles/armies and that an admiral would be more suitable to fly an X-Wing. Not a big deal though
General calrissian led the attack on the second death star.
Good point, but that also kind of irked me hehe. Especially since he had shown himself to be quite untrustworthy…
but what about that maneuver he did at the battle of tanaab? 😉
General Lando flew a space mission in Return of the Jedi.
General Solo led the attack on Endor’s shield.
I know that lol. I was just expressing how cool it when officers and leaders lead from the front.
The more I see, the more I like. It would really be something if the best Star Wars movie doesn’t even have Jedi in it.
Yes, now that’s an interesting thought !

I hope so.
I’m not usually a fan of these types of theories, but this I can get behind.
Nope. New characters, please. Stop with this
She is pretty new. Are you saying whenever a new character is introduced, you never want to see them again?
Not at all. But saying not EVERYONE has to ALWAYS be SOMEONE from something before. Every single trailer or scene we see in every single movie or show makes these theories crop up. Enough with it.
That’s why I said that I’m not usually a fan of these theories. It just happens that this one seems plausible to me. Regardless, even though many theories are quite outlandish, that’s part of the fun of the fandom.
It can be fun, but not when it is constant.
so she’s not Rey’s mum, then? 😉
No, she definitely is.
Noooo..she’s OBVIOUSLY Vader’s secret daughter. Come on man! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8f3151b0dd574e3acefd14c2780862d3f79e560fecbbf3702e457162b70d16d9.gif
So what you’re saying is that she’s Snoke, correct?
Nailed it!
Willing to bet she and the other pilots are never named in the movie.
I swear the designs are so much more original than the force awakens.
Maz’s castle. That is all.
How, exactly? Both movies had the same creature design crew led by neal Scanlan.

“TFA is better than the prequels, but I like the prequels, so I hate TFA.”
There is an Aqualish behind Jyn in her cell when they barge in it, but it’s very quick. You have to freeze frame it. Pablo Hidalgo confirmed it.
Moroff feels very Jim Henson-ish to me, I like it.
“The name’s Merrick… Heisenberg Merrick.”
he is the one who knocks.
The Jedha pilgrims and the two tubes bros are stunning. Love the designs.
There are 20 more images. Very interesting.

Thanks! Love the Jyn card (new image), I’m hopelessly in love already…just like I was last December with Rey…oh the infidelity
The Two Tubes guy isn’t wearing a Vader-like chest plate. It’s an X-Wing pilot chest plate. Look no further than the very first photo in this article, for the comparison.
I remember when I first saw them I thought it was a tie pilot chest plate, but now I see that it makes way more sense. Good call
They built the the Yavin IV Rebel lookout tower looking the same! Looks like a trash can like they used back in 1977.
I do like the Middle Eastern influence in the Jedha designs and the female X Wing pilot looks a bit like Toni Collette.
Evaan Verlaine, anybody???
These are awesome
For sure. She looks exactly like her. Anyone have a good, clear, detailed picture of Evaan’s helmet in the comics?
Defintely Evaan Verlaine.

Those pilgrims on jedha look like what I imagine cheap imperial guard cosplay would be XD. Very fun seeing all this stuff though, I think I love the shots of the stormtroopers the best
Clearly the pale blue Mon Calamari are only in this film to fulfil some sort of politically correct agenda.
They look white or light gray to me.
#PaleSquidsMatter
That X-Wing pilot looks to be holding Biggs’ helmet.. got a mustache also..
I like their 70s hair too. Very fitting with episode IV era.
The Imperial officers mostly have the big sideburns too.
The one in the middle and right are in both trailers (I think!).
I love the 70s pornstaches on those rebel pilots.
Also in most of the shots I’ve seen of Imperial Officers, most of them have the big sideburns.
the design on this film is utterly superb. Couldn’t have hoped for more. TFA? what’s TFA?

What is it with star Wars fans and putting certain movies down to bring other films up? It’s strange.
ikr? i know i’d never do that… 😉

The most overused put down. Wow.
i like to think of it as a classic.
FUCK YOU, RICK BERMAN!
Well…to be fair, the prequels were objectively terribly-made movies. TFA was a well-made movie. You can critique its unoriginality, or maybe you don’t like the story, or maybe you wanted more lightsabers or dinosaurs, but it was a well-made movie. The Prequels were simply not well-made.
but the design does look amazing in this and in comparison to TFA. The what’s TFA joke wasn’t funny, but aside from that, I’m not TFA’s biggest fan, not its biggest hater either 🙂
It’s the biggest movie in American history, the movie whose sequel is anticipated by millions.
I was referencing the design aspect 🙂 design looking especially good in this AND in comparison to TFA. I do like TFA less and less though, I didn’t even properly like it at the cinema but agree with everyone that it ticked enough boxes to get the ball rolling again
eye roll
TFA is definitely a bit shit in not many but unfortunately some important ways. Anyway, like I was saying the design shown off in Rogue One is amazing
It’s definitely your opinion and I think that opinion is a bit shit. And around we go! 🙂
For me TFA is getting worse each month. The only genius creation of that film is REY initial sequences and ILM efxs is always superb .
Kylo Ren is a coward , a bad example for our generation! When the film was released I was ok by the fact it goes along with Episode 4 structure. Now I think this was a lazy move by new Lucasfilm and Disney. The cantina scene in TFA sucks, the lightsabers duels is not good ( ex: Old Republic cinematics is MUCH more cool and well directed) ,
I hate the fact they killed Han Solo in EP7 and Poe history was lame as R2D2 history too .
k.
Yawn. All lame and tired critiques.
For serious. Most of these critiques sound like the musings of a 12 year old. “Kylo is a pansy. He should have had way more Force power. Lightsaber duels sucked. Poe is OP.” And what about the movie? Was it a good movie? Dialogue? Acting? Story?
A good movie as the generations reunited movie event of the century ,it’s something that heals your soul and mind with the Force and Fantasy and Light, not some cinic pseudo antiheroes working for a industry of war and patricide. Waiting for Ep8 that will set us all for a good plot
If you didn’t understand… there is a simple scheme:
– Light force fantasy and unicorns => REY
– Cynicism capitalism violence and islamic terrorism ==> KYLO REN
The main lead is Rey; Kylo is the villain. What kind of cynicism are you able to find in this scheme? Which part won, at the end of the movie? The unicorns or the islamic terrorists?
Kylo Ren coward? Oh, he had the force to kill his father… even Vader had not enough courage to kill his son!
Kylo represents everything negative and violent in a Entertainment industry, a culture of fear , that sells false anti heroes rmasks to children in every toy store. Vader didnt kill his son. This is a 2016 up notch for a film that reunites generations ? A coward (his son ) killing Han Solo ? I went with my kid on the theater and I can tell u this is movie has bad karma innit
Phasma should kill Han, not Leia’s son
Ahah! Why?!?
So, Phasma killing Han (?!?) would have been a better idea than Kylo Ren killing his own father? You are a genius, you really understood what storytelling is.
but the wolfman in the cantina scene was cool 😉
Rogue One looks so cool! 300% Star Wars. If it has a good screenplay, it will make JJ Abrams looks like a phony fake writer for present us TFA’s plot like that.Without Lucas, our only hope is Episode 8 saving the original saga plotholes
Oh and that horrible Lawrence Kasdan. 😉
Lawrence Kasdan + JJ x 2 – Michael Arndt -George Lucas = plain storytelling with some good dialogue
i think we can now confirm Bryan Cranston is playing General Merrick ? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/d89b8293e719a2520eec48b731213a01eb951018adabfd7d0586a1a4501649b4.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/73a25f0fa876fdf29060e7185055326775e5f3f88995b2eea9281f3c7c64951d.jpg
No, I believe it’s Ben Daniels from the Exorcist TV show http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0199842/?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm at least that’s my guess
damn u make me doubt now. i guess they should confirm this soon no ? i was think cause Edwards directed Godzilla that it was a lil cameo from Cranston
It’s likely Daniels. The giveaway is the mole on his left cheek.
It would of been nice to see him in a cameo (he might still), but Daniels even confirmed it on Twitter.
Interesting that for the pilots they went for a more Empire than New Hope look. The fabric is completely different. Same for the Rebel Troopers. Seems like all the rebel clothes get a sort of upgrade.
I WANT ANTHOLOGY MOVIES FOR “x-wing pilot” and “Rebel soldier” RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!
In EP I there was Kermit meets jamaican Goofy (Jar jar) , now Sesame’s Big Bird meets Wampas.
