New Details on Kylo Ren, Snoke and The First Order from Empire Magazine!
As promised yesterday, EmpireMagazine revealed more interesting info about The Force Awakens coming from J.J. Abrams himself. The interview with Abrams is from their latest issue which will be released on August 27…
From EmpireMagazine:
“Kylo Ren is not a Sith,” confirms JJ Abrams in the new issue of Empire. “He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”
Snoke, you will recall, is a performance-captured digital character played by Andy Serkis, who can be heard growling the voiceover on the first teaser. Aside from shedding a little light on Ren’s origins, Abrams gave some background on the state of the universe when The Force Awakens begins, including the origins of the First Order, who are not quite the Imperial remnant many had taken them to be.
“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams reveals. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

He didn’t say that Snoke was NOT Sith…
“i’m not NOT licking toads, son…”
And he also did not say that he is NOT Plagueis.
Still aboard the hype train!
And he din’t say that Snoke was not LOBOT
He also did not say snoke was not lando calrissian. Pressured into undertaking a massive promotion and pay rise under a new boss. Obviously he will have aged a lot. He still holds a grudge agaist solo.
He didn’t say Snoke wasn’t Willrow Hood, whose notorious ice cream was so delicious it pretty much secured a monopoly in the core sector for Hood Dairy. How do you think that ice cream got so delicious? The dark side.
Heesa did no say that the sun doing murder to mesa skin – – oops! Meesa in big doo-doo for referencing an unliked moment!
And his unknown to the audience son Finn.
Check out my post of speculation on Vader’s unfinished work that the Knight’s of Ren are trying to finish as well as if Snoke was Plaguis why would vader matter to his Knights.

Y’all need to stop about this Plagueis nonsense. I doubt JJ and Kasdan had any desire to mine whatever minor exposition or back story that came from the prequels. They themselves said that they wrote TFA based solely off of what was established in the OT (while adhering to Lucasfilm story group so as not to contradict what came in the prequels).
Having said that, didn’t Kasdan and JJ already confirm that Plagueis didn’t have a place in this new trilogy? A fan at Comic-Con had asked about Plageuis, and Kasdan seemed genuinely confused as if the name wasn’t familiar to him. And JJ promptly chimed in with a resounding NO.
Don’t tell them that. Everyone at the comic con table was CLEARLY looking panicked by the question and counted on JJ to bail them out of revealing anything. There’s no way that all these newcomers to the franchise couldn’t possibly just be bemused by a question about star wars minutia they didn’t understand.
Really? There’s no way? None at all? It’s not possible that they legitimately don’t have any idea who Plagueis is? That seems like a totally baseless absolute to count on. I think it’s far more obvious and far more likely that they really don’t know, and the more info I hear about this film, the less likely it becomes that Plagueis has anything to do with it.
Except of course that one of the earliest tidbits about Serkis was that, while it wasn’t essential for newer fans to know coming in, his character is someone the diehards will recognize. Wouldn’t write it off just yet.
I was being sarcastic, of course.
Considering the Story of the tragedy of Darth PLagueis was a very important part of Anakin becoming Darth Vader…I highly doubt ANYONE of them does not know who he is and how important he is to the story…..considering plagueis CREATED the force sensitive Skywalker bloodline with the dark side of the Force Starting with Anakin using Schmi Skywalker as the host, making PLagueis pretty much the most important piece of the puzzle in the ENTIRE SAGA might have a little bit of relevance to….I highly doubt that has been overlooked. If it HAS, then they are fools.
Plagueis was not important in the Prequels.
He was mentioned once in Episode III. He doesn’t play any significant role in Anakin turning to the dark side either. It was more about Palpatine tricking Anakin into thinking he could save his pregnant wife from death.
I believe JJ’s response was “Who’s Darth Vegas?” Which could just be avoiding a lie if he said Plagueis was not in the movie. I’m not saying this means he is in TFA. Just that when asked at the convention he did not deny his existence, he just deflected the question. The part of me that believes he wouldn’t be in the movie is the fact that he said midichlorians are not brought up in the movie. This could just be clever wording on his part but it does seem that Disney is going forward with it. As Vader’s legacy is being born of the force as he has no father. Shmi had an immaculate birth. It is official canon and can’t see it being changed. I guess it may just not be brought up. But it was Plagueis that had the power to manipulate midichlorians to prevent death, perhaps he was able to save his own life somehow. The problem things will have is how the new evil stayed hidden throughout episodes 1-6 and 30 years later. Clouded judgement perhaps, but I just don’t buy a new evil out of nowhere that just happens to use the dark side of the force.
I was near the front row at the Star Wars panel at Comic-Con. It was Kasdan who asked who “Darth Vegas” was. Trust me, he looked genuinely confused about about the fan’s question and did not recognize the name Plageuis when he heard it.
When the fan asked about Plagueis, I believe Kasdan was acting when he said “Darth Vader…Vegas?”. You can clearly see a look of “uh oh” in Kathy Kennedy and JJ when JJ finally stepped in and said that Kasdan was just fooling with him. Then of course he said “no”. Not the first time he said no to direct and accurate accusations, such as the whole “Bendedict Cumberbatch is NOT Khan” thing. I truly believe something is being hidden there. We’ll just have to wait until December, and I tell you…I cannot wait 🙂 I hope it comes on by quickly for you all as well!
My fear is that they will have Snoke be Plagueis in all but name, and insist that he’s called Snoke.
Like if in Into Darkness they insisted that John Harrison was really some guy named John Harrison, but everything he did lined up with Khan.
Did you even watch the movie? BC “john Harrison” even says he is khan. He didn’t dance around it at all.
The dude said “if”.
it sounded like the fan said Darth Vegas
Nor did he say that he is not REVAN :)))
Where is Kristian Harloff when we need him.
Didnt say he was either..
He also DIDN’T say he doesn’t wear his moms undies. OMG Abrams is a closeted cross-dresser!
He also didn’t deny Half-Life 3. Confirmed.
a triangle has three sides, an apple cut into triangle slivers has three sides, google has three letters the same height. see the pattern? no? look closer. “the first order” has three words, J.J. Abrams is three names, Half-life 3 has a three, star wars VII has three roman numerics making up the 7, “the force awakens” is three words. Star wars the force awakens is Illuminati confirmed
He also didn’t say Snoke wasn’t Gandalf, Harry Potter, Primrose Everdeen, Tony Stark, or Superman.
Let the speculations fly.
Just as long as he isn’t “Snoke”. Worst. Evil. Name. Ever.
No . . . Sheev is.
I was at walmart yesterday and saw a kylo ren with stormtroopers shirt and bb8 shirts. i got the kylo ren one and when i tried to purchase it the cashier scanned it and it said not for sale yet. i explained it was part of a big release on force friday. sucks i really wanted it 🙁
Very cool. This makes me wonder if we will see actual Imperial factions in this trilogy as well as The First Order which appears to be a separate entity. Here’s a thought…what if former Imperial factions join the Rebellion to form the Resistance against The First Order?
As long as we see stormtroopers against stormtroopers, I’m all for it.
Does the stormtrooper-on-stormtrooper mud-wrestling scene count?
No one mentions that anymore.
at least 4 factions are confirmed in merchandize (imperials, Fo, Rebllion, Resistance) could get interesting, much better then the EU ideas so far.
Yes, but I think the those belonging to the Rebellion or Empire in the new toy lines are explicitly called out on the product packages to be from the OT not TFA. Like for instance the Luke Skywalker figure from the new 3.75″ line calls out “Episode V” on the package.
I still think Snoke is Darth Plagueis or the leader of The Knights of Ren
Why not both? I thought think the film will end with kylo being the most worthy of the Knights of ren (who I guess will be an inquisitor-like cult who aspire to be sith) to become snokes new sith apprentice
No, No, Snoke is a Hobbit who sneaked out of the LotR Saga by tunneling through the fourth wall and into a galaxy far far away because the other Hobbits were sick of Snoke the sneak….wow really got to stop smoking this stuff!
arrrreee you sure Snoke isnt from Game of Thrones? Snoke the sneak and Reek (it rhymes with leek) would surely get along splendidly
Hmmmm..could be. I’ll take a peek, should have the answer next week. Lordy this pipeweed is strong…think I’m becoming a freak.
Snoke is a name Plagueis goes by, until he reveals his true identity!
I mean honestly, who else in the known Star Wars universe could challenge Luke Skywalker?
I agree makes perfect sense
If anyone here has a twitter, go to your search bar and type in “snoke”.
Third picture I believe you’ll find Serkis in his mocap gear holding a shortened staff, similar to the one Plagueis weilds.
Interesting to say the least.
Wow…this is legit!
Could Snoke Kill off Luke in Ep 8 and leave Rey to fight Snoke with a Staff vs Staff fight in 9?
Get your ….erm…walking-stick-thingies ready lads!
This is from the Vanity Fair photo shoot and is a cropped version of a larger photo in which he has his hands on his knees. There is no staff in the picture, it’s all camera rigs and mocap equipment.
no, he clearly has a staff and the photo talked about isn’t from vanity fair, but a picture you can view on twitter if you search for snoke.
Word is it’s from The Jungle Book which he’s working on now.
Hm, I don’t know? Maybe…a new character??!!
I don’t understand why people are so crazy about all things being rehashed when they can get something new. :/
I’d be fine with a new character, but they have to set them up really well to make it flow and feel like a natural continuation. I don’t want Star Wars to become serialized. Palpatine had 6 movies of build-up as the ultimate villain of the universe. If snoke is a random dark side user, where has he been. The only reason I like the plageius theory is it automatically feels like a step up from palpatine. You wouldn’t need as much buildup because if he trained palpatine and cheated death then he already must be insanely strong in the dark side
Yeah, the “ultimate villain in the universe” – who got shafted.
You act like Palpatine was all that. He wasn’t. He was largely absent in the OT and was surrounded by idiots in the PT.
To quote a wise scientist named Dr. Drakken “You think you’re all that…. but you’re not!”
I like my theory that Snoke comes from beyond the stretches of the galaxy (like the Yuuzhan Vong in EU) and perhaps since he’s foreign to the galaxy his force powers are different (kind of how the Yuuzhan Vong were “immune” to the Force). It’s just an interesting theory that I guarantee will not be true.
Imperial remnant VS First order bring it on!
Who was there 30 years ago that could rise to power like that (Snoke)? Is it possible that it’s an existing character that we already know? … Boba Fett? Although I know that sounds like a joke, but I could see him starting a neo-Nazi movement.
Or even better.. being bitter towards the empire, and wanting to “do it right”
Possibly, but is a force user going to take commands from a bounty hunter?
Absolutely! Tarkin seemed to have a grip on Vader.
Tarkin was a Grand Moff not a Bounty Hunter. Those two things aren’t ANYTHING like each other.
You’re right, of course. I was simply answering the question of whether or not I think that a force user would take commands from a non-force user in that Vader was a force user who seemed to take commands from a non-force user (Tarkin), so although a bounty hunter and a grand moff (more specifically Boba Fett and GMT) aren’t alike is some respects, they are both non-force users. I do believe that Kylo would take orders from Fett; especially if Snoke is anything like the Emperor in the OT.
But say in the three decades he becomes something else, something with a position of power?
That aside, first they’d need to deal with the whole Sarlaac business, though (just to play with the idea) the rumor of him being ghastly in appearance would actually help the connection.
Yeah, it gives me chills to think about MVS as a disfigured Fett!
because Vader’s master commanded him to take orders from Tarkin. Vader was obedient out of fear of the Emperor, but he did respect Tarkin as a military leader, but he definitely didn’t like being ordered around.
Yeah, that’s kind of what I’m saying, except that I think Vader didn’t seem annoyed at Tarkin. There wasn’t really enough screen time with both of them to examine their relationship all that much, but it’s likely that Vader didn’t like having someone boss him around. Maybe Jar Jar’s force ghost will be able to scare Kylo into submission?
There were plenty are dark side adepts in palpatines inner circle or in training. Many of his most trusted and loyal companions were adepts. We did see some in ROTJ as imperial dignitaries the guys wearing purple. Most of these died I imagine, or managed to escape before it blew. There maybe have been more scattered around.
Maybe CGI is needed cause its so old deformed beyond humanoid appearance.
http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120113180412/starwars/images/0/0d/GreejatusAndFriends-ROTJ.jpg
Yeah, I always felt like those guys were some sort of tease for Lucas’ future plans. There’s some sort of story there…
I always thought those guys were really cool looking. Do we know anything about them in the canon?
Darth Plagueis
Confirmed. #illuminati
Half-Life 3 confirmed.
Not sure I go for the name Snoke…
While I don’t think it’s an accident that bits from the Plagueis novel were included in Tarkin which was written by the same author and is now canon – I have my reservations about Snoke being Plagueis. As cool as that would be… I think he is an all new character, as I doubt Palpatine was fooled into thinking Plagueis was dead. I think he actually died. However, that being said, he could create life and as Yoda and Obi-Wan proved, it is possible for one to transcend the natural body and retain one’s identity in the force absent from the body. In the legends Jedi Academy trilogy, we see a young student in Luke’s academy, Kip Durron, become possessed by the Spirit of ancient Sith Lord Exar Kun in Luke’s academy on Yavin IV. This type of approach would be cool and wouldn’t surprise me as it is not without precedent, but I think it would be necessary for a twist like this if Plagueis is involved in some way as I think his former body was in fact destroyed. I don’t expect to see a Muun Sith Lord.
That would all become a bit Voldemort-ish though wouldn’t it?
To be fair, Harry Potter copied alot from Star Wars.
“…as Yoda and Obi-Wan proved, it is possible for one to transcend the natural body and retain one’s identity in the force absent from the body.”
If they use Sith Force Ghosts then they are definitely not staying true to Lucas’s ideas. He specifically stated that only Jedi can retain their identity because it requires selflessness, something the Sith don’t have. It is meant to be something evil can never attain though they try. That doesn’t mean that the Sith can’t have some unnatural means of preserving themselves, but if the filmmakers are true to Lucas’s worldbuilding, they can’t have spirits survive death like the Jedi.
I agree with you. However, it is also stated that the dark side is a pathway to many abilities that some would consider “unnatural”. I think if this was done, the handling of this ability would be different than that of the Jedi. Whereas the Jedi can actually continue in existence and carry on conversations with people in the physical realm as if they were still alive, I think the Sith approach would be more like that of a traditional ghost…a disembodied wandering spirit that is not on the same dimensional plane as the physical reality, and the spirit must take possession of a physical body to fully interact with the physical world. I could see something along those lines…
That’s basically what I meant by “That doesn’t mean that the Sith can’t have some unnatural means of preserving themselves.”
I could see a Sith Spirit that can only survive if it has a host body (or maybe, temporarily, an object?), otherwise it will be pulled into oblivion.
This is kind of what happened with Exar Kun in the novel Dark Apprentice. Thousands of years before the events in the novel, in the time of the Old Republic, Exar Kun – former Jedi Knight turned dark lord of the Sith – set himself up as a god over the Massassi people of Yavin (who were responsible for the erection of the temples we see in ANH). Exar Kun attempted a ritual that would allow his spirit to transcend the death of his physical body. The ritual however, came with a price. Thousands of Massassi tribesmen sacrificed their lives so that Exar Kun could attain immortality (a far cry from the Jedi’s peaceful approach). The Jedi attacked him on Yavin, destroying his body, but the ritual proved successful, although not exactly as he had hoped. An unforeseen problem presented itself…Exar Kun’s spirit survived, but was trapped within the confines of the temple. In the novel, one of Luke’s young and impressionable students happened upon the temple, and unsatisfied with his teaching from Skywalker, began to learn from Kun in secret, opening himself up to the dark side of the force. Eventually, Exar Kun showed his true colors and was able to possess the body of the student (Kip Durron). When he attached himself to the young man, he was able to leave the temple. What if Snoke was a former wayward student of Skywalker who became possessed by the Spirit of Darth Plagueis? I don’t see them using this storyline, but the idea was there for the mining if they so chose.
An inanimate object, like a crystal, like a lightsaber crystal? Problem is, immortalizing yourself in objects is too Voldemort like someone said above.
I meant extremely temporarily, not like Voldemort. I don’t think he is hiding in the staff or anything. I was just trying to think of a way one could anchor to something in our world for a few seconds or minutes until a body comes along.
yeah in all honesty Muuns look dumb af and wouldn’t make a menacing sith lord so I’m hoping they create a new character that would be more bad ass than Plagueis
I think it IS conceivably within Sidious’ character to let Plageuis remain alive – turning a blind eye to Plageuis’ existence [for the time being].
I don’t get why JJ would cover up Plagueis with a fake name unless it’s going to be a reveal, but the problem with that is most movie-goers probably don’t know who the hell Plagueis is anyway.
True Star Wars fans will know.
And that’s who the movies are made for. It’s a saga. Not a single stand alone film.
Odds are if they don’t know who Plagueis is, they won’t know who Anakin is.
There millions of people who watched those films and I guarantee you only a tiny fraction will even have the slightest idea who that is. This might shock you but the vast majority of people are not int the whole lore and Plagueis is a name mentioned ONCE and only in a tale/legend that was told to a character. I’ll 99% of the people in the cinema would have no idea.
I garuntee 99% of movie going audience didn’t know who thanos was when he popped up in the marvel universe. Likewise with rocket raccoon and groot- but it didn’t stop Disney from using them. Now I’m not saying plageius is in the movie- if I were a betting man I’d say no, but if they wanted to explore the character, people not remembering him wouldn’t be an issue- they could tell his backstory in 30 seconds of dialogue and it would be fine.
He did the same thing with Khan and it backfired. He said he regretted doing that, so I doubt he would do the exact same thing for Star Wars. That doesn’t mean Plagueis can’t show up. Snoke could be trying to awaken him for all we know.
Skokes trying to resurrect Plagueis makes more sense than Snokes himself being Plagueis.
Benicio Del toro as plageius in episode VIII
What are you talking about? Plagueis was mentioned once in the entire saga. Anakin was a pivotal character in every movie.
“True Star Wars fans will know.”
Oh geez. Not this nonsense about “true fans” again.
“Odds are if they don’t know who Plagueis is, they won’t know who Anakin is.”
Absolutely ridiculous comparison.
Agreed! We’re all fans. The only people who use the term “true fans” are those who wish to put themselves on a pedestal.
Only a True Fan deals in absolutes…
I’m so excited about September 18th after watching the film. I will come here and laugh at all of you arrogant people who think they know everything about TFA. I will laugh at you because Tatooine IS that planet renamed Jakku, because Plagueis is in the flick and because Luke’s photo you’ve seen is the funniest red-herring Lucasfilm has thrown so far.
September 18th?
December 18th. I was so passioned writing it that changed the release date.
I think we have assumed too soon that Supreme Leader Snoke is at the top of the totem pole. Remember the emperor was referenced in ep 4, seen via hologram in ep 5, and actually seen in ep 6. If he is the big bad guy of the sequel trilogy would they really introduce that character in the first movie? Maybe, they don’t have to make every film with the same structure as the original trilogy and I do sort of hope that they don’t get carried away in making these films similar to the original films. I think we’re getting ahead of ourselves thinking that Snoke is the leader of everything. The article says he is a “powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.” What’s to say there aren’t more powerful figures on the Dark Side? Benicio Del Toro is rumored to be cast as a villain in episode 8. He could be a powerful Dark Side figure too, possibly more powerful/important than Snoke. My point is that we’ve all gone too far assuming that he is the main villain, I personally expect him to be, but we should always keep in mind that it’s a possibility he’s not.
Yeah, 30% of people will see it coming and have their intelligence offended
and the other 70% will be like “Who the F#$% is this bozo??”
I will never understand the obsession you all have with DP. Nothing about that character was gripping to me.
Read this: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Plagueis_(novel) and you’ll change your mind.
Yeah, I’ve read it. Still didn’t do much for me.
I thought it was a great novel, but I can definitely see where you’re coming from.
In the end, it was a pretty simple plan that probably wouldn’t have worked until Palpatine took it over.
I think many of us really like the DP story because it better explains the dark side of the Force and the Sith (along with the Bane trilogy). The character himself might just be a piece of it, and not the whole.
He is intriguing to me because he was Palpatine’s master, experimented with immortality, was supposedly able to keep people from dying, and was hinted at being the one who created Anakin by using the Force to… create life.
Damn…could Snoke still be Plagueis???
It does make sense what JJ says, alot of Neo Nazi movements always refuse to believe Hitler died in his Berlin bunker and got away to south america. Kylo Ren poses as Vader and gathers a cult following funded by Plagueis who is working behind the scenes. I love the whole Boys from brazil vibe to this.
Good reference
Not a Sith? As much as I hate the prequels it would bother me if they gloss over the Chosen One thing. Just call them Ren and let that be the end of it.
So will there be any sith in the movie then?
The word “sith” shouldn’t even be used.
The Sith are done. The Emperor and Vader were the last two. Doesn’t mean the dark side itself is done, though. New dark-siders can rise, be them called the Knights of Ren or the Knights of Stimpy.
AND the Knights of Ni!!!! and also the Knights who say EKKI-EKKI-EKKI-EKKI-PTANG. Zoom-Boing. Z’nourrwringmm.
sorry?
Just give him a shrubbery and he’ll go away happy.
😀 with a little path running up the middle to a second, lightly elevated shrubbery?
The Sith have been wiped out. They are extinct. But wait…………….”there has been an awakening, have you felt it?”
The Sith were just, like, a rival dojo to the Jedi. They’re not evil incarnate in the Star Wars galaxy.
It’s a secret order created by Plagus. To by pass the rule of two, he creates a new order hidden from Palpatine, the Empire and the new Jedi order.
That would be the most likely assumption.
Still one thing JJ likes about ANH is not to clarify everything.
I think true identity of Snoke won’t be revealed until the very end of Episode 8 or middle part of episode 9.
So I guess the question is, what did JJ think Vader was doing that wasn’t finished before he died?
I think what Vader failed to do was destroy the Jedi completely.
This may be what these Knights of Ren are determined to do, and the reason why Luke may be MIA (if that rumor’s true).
If you guys are really wanting to think on this new info, read my post in the cantina. It’s deep and I think if you care, you’ll love the fact based speculation on Vader’s unfinished work that the Knight’s of Ren are trying to finish as well as if Snoke was Plaguis why would vader matter to his Knights.
https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/vaders-unfinished-work.4144/
Turning or killing Luke Skywalker
Bring an end to this destructive conflict!
The Knights of Ren may believe Vader was the Chosen One but didn’t get a chance to bring true balance to the Force by ending both Sith and Jedi (notice he didn’t say they believe Palpatine to be a martyr). They may see themselves as a balance between Jedi and Sith. Once both Jedi and Sith are out of the picture, the Knights of Ren can bring real balance to the Galaxy.
I also get the feeling that the criminal underworld may eventually have been in Vader’s sights as needing crushed so that order could be brought to the galaxy. He was after all a slave as a child, and probably harbored some deep seated hatred of the syndicates.
He still had to locate and destroy all copies of the Star Wars Holiday Special.
Ugh. Clicked report and meant to click reply, sorry.
I think you might be on to something. The CGI work Andy Serkis did could be to recreate Bea Arthur from the Holiday Special. It would fit the rumored appearances of Snoke pretty well…a “zombie-like appearance and described as “almost risen from the dead.”
Check out my post of speculation on Vader’s unfinished work that the Knight’s of Ren are trying to finish as well as if Snoke was Plaguis why would vader matter to his Knights.
https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/vaders-unfinished-work.4144/
“It doesn’t make sense that Plagueis would want the Knights of Ren to love Vader, unless…”
Except for the fact that Anakin was basically the son of Plagueis according to Palpatine. He was one of, if not the greatest accomplishment on the road to immortality, and that filthy traitor Sidious ruined him!
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again.
as far as names go. what could be more dangerous to one’s health than heart Palpitations…..a Stroke. think about it.
Hego Damask rules the GFFA.
Some peeps call him Snoke, some call him Plagueis the Wise, or even the real Phantom Menace but no matter what YOU call him…
One day soon,
EVERYONE will answer him with “Yes, Massster.”
Im NOT a neo nazi but there is more evidence to suggest that Hitler escaped to South America than suggests he died in a bunker in 1945.
Lol
Where I wanna see
Magneto killed him then.
Duh.
I love that line of thinking. One thing is for sure, JJ Abrahams needs to create an uber bad guy that is way beyond Darth Sidious ( and he wiped wiped out the Jedi Order and ruled the galaxy for a few decades) So its vital that they come with a bad guy thats even more evil then Sidious, the stakes gotta be higher then what has come before or else whats the point right ?
Sounds like they are hoping people are gonna pay for a copy of a magazine, that you don`t know how much spoiler info is gonna be in it, cough up some cash and get fed the same news for free a few days later or weeks down the line. Meanwhile the magazine gets thrown on the paper recycling pile a week down the line. Sounds like a good deal to me.
A fool is easily parted from his money.
Snoke is the leader of The Knights of Ren, he is not a Sith , is the leader of the Knights of Ren , they use the dark side of the Force especially since it is more powerful , but they use both sides of the Force, that is, using the full power of the Force and users being more powerful force that ever existed .
you may be right
The Sith are dead, but the dark side of the force is still there. I don’t think they will use both. They will be pure evil, just like sith. Different in name only and maybe with goals or reasoning more developed, but still pure evil.
saying that true fans will know is slightly silly. One line in episode 3 about him does not make him this super character everyone seems to rave about. Okay, a book was written about him but quite frankly that means jack as the majority of people who will be watching this film will not have read it.
Get over DP as i really doubt (personal opinion) they will base a film around him. This is going to be original stuff i think, not JJ trawling through EU gubbins…
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Amen.
the spirit of plaegis live in palpatine and after his death, inside luke skywalker. That’s why he fail to train jedi, that’s why he goes to reclusion.
Then, how kill the ultimtate evil without kill the hero ? Very phylosophical 🙂
I think Snoke is a puppet for a Sith, possibly a knackered old cyborgy Palpatine….or Plagueis,I doubt anyone without training could just become a dark side master and take over.
He could have been trained by Luke as a Jedi and then turned on him and studied the Dark Side.
I think the Sith are dead and gone and the Knights of Ren are a new order that sees themselves as a balance between Jedi and Sith.
Though I am intrigued by Plagueis, I would rather the Sith be gone for good and the Knights continuing the balancing in their minds.
Could have, but become too powerful for Luke so quickly? I dunno, seems more plausible to think someone has been hiding, scheming in the shadows whilst they rebuilt their strength.
Who taught them about the dark side and its secret ways? I doubt Luke did.
Edit.. Unless Snoke found a Sith holocron? the’re still canon aren’t they?
Not necessarily too strong for Luke, but if Snoke and other traitors killed the other Jedi while Luke was away (perhaps forced to make a move because someone discovered them), they could have fled before he returned to find all of his apprentices dead.
And things like holocrons are what I meant by Snoke studying the Dark Side. Though I believe he is studying the Dark Side… and the Light.
Now that they – The Knights of Ren – don’t have Luke to teach them, they are trying to build up their knowledge through artifacts.
Maybe Palpatine cloned Vader secretly during The Clone Wars, trained him and then froze him in Carbonite for later use. Then a certain actor would returrrrn…
Sounds almost as horrible as the plotlines for The Force Unleashed. Almost…
The second one had a plot????
Couldn’t tell if they covered anything in that sequel, cause it was about 86 minutes of gameplay.
psssh we all know that if anyone deserves a clone, or better, a clone army it is our dearly beloved Jar Jar, imagine a whole army of Jar Jars, armed with poop jokes, “ouuuugh-oh!” noises, and limp tongues, with a battle cry of “aaaannnii?!”
Oh moi moi I love you!
Look at the reaction of JJ and Kennedy when a fanboy asked the Plagueis, at the ComicCon. Their face told the truth. Kasdan tried to pretend to misunderstand as Darth Vegas.
That’s right.
I would love for the twist of this movie to be that Snoke’s true identity is revealed as Plagueis, the cause of Luke’s previous feelings of force-disturbance has become clear and he realizes that this is a much more substantial threat to the resistance than he had foreseen. That way, the 8th movie could focus on him training Rey and Finn in the Force to aid in the battle against Plagueis and The First Order. Just a thought.
Here look at this, I saw this on twitter on my phone so I had to repost it to my photobucket….make of it what you will.
http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss159/blackbelt_08/IMG_5624.jpg
That photo could be from any production or rehearsal.
Ok. The PT rule of two is here. Everybody happy now.
Snoke is a new character, no Plagueis, is conffirmed, see his new concept art leaked: http//:AYQ_AUoAWoVChMItbPO1rjExwIVhBYQd&biw=360&bih=615
i hope luke kicks kylo ren in the ass at the end of the movie, and then of course snoke ass on the two next movies… if luke only appears on the very end of the movie i will be very disapointed
Why set yourself up for possible disappointment? Can’t you just appreciate we’re getting f***ing Star Wars 7?!
I’m pretty sold on Kylo.
Less than 4 months to go………
I only hope Kylo Ren doesn’t become the Darth Maul of the new trilogy. Even though Episode 1 was not the best in the series, I thought their was so much potential with Maul if they only kept him in the movies and not killed him off. Much better foe than Count Dooku. I know they brought Maul back in that really bad story line in Clone Wars. I wish that could be erased from the Cannon.
Canon* 🙂 after all a Cannon is the thing that goes *pew* and shoots large round things at thyne foe
on a personal note (not wanting to claim your view as wrong), I rather enjoyed The Clone Wars once it got past the first season, the first season being more of an “eh” to me
Adam driver said Kylo would be a complex villain throughout the trilogy, likening him to the new trilogy’s Vader. So you don’t have to worry much about him being mauled. There is no way he dies until episode 9 if at all. Plus if nothing else he is the face of the new Star Wars marketing
Maul was the marketing image as well, but hopefully you are right. I think phasma will die, bjt not Kylo.
I think many of us fans refuses to accept George Lucas chosen one being Anakin, blah blah blah…. It never made sense.. Obviously the force isnt balanced, especially with the new title being the force awakens….fans want more sith , plus it would make Star Wars all 9 movies being as a whole, instead of 2 trilogies being different from this… i dont know….to me, it makes more sense and more fun to have Leias child be the chosen one. someone who isnt always crying like Anakin. someone who really is a child of light and not a brat who kills children in a temple…. im not sure how this is going to play out, but to me if there is no connection at all with anybody in the past, besides Skywalkers, then what we are really getting is just a repeat of story telling, with copycats of sith and heros…. thats my veiws anyway….
If you guys are really wanting to think on this new info, read my post in the cantina. It’s deep and I think if you care, you’ll love the fact based speculation on Vader’s unfinished work that the Knight’s of Ren are trying to finish as well as if Snoke was Plaguis why would vader matter to his Knights.
https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/vaders-unfinished-work.4144/
did you have to link this 3 times?
Don’t hype your own work, dude. It’s lame.
It’s deep. Muahahaa
Snoke is not a Sith either. He is the leader of The Knights if Ren, a group even more powerful than the Sith. Luke’s role will be to release Darth Plagueis from his tomb to summon his help, along with the rest of the Sith to help defea The Knights of Ren and the First order. Episode 9nwilo have the biggest battle we’ve seen between good and evil.. .
Ezra Bridger goes dark side? 30 years later trying to rule the GFFA? Though they wouldn’t need mocap for a human….
“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’”
That’s EXACTLY how I felt ever since they released the 2nd teaser way back in April. The First Order had that feel from that one Nazi organization from the Anime tv series Hellsing: Ultimate called MILENNIUM. An organization that has evolved by becoming more powerful, stronger, and at the same More intimidation and quite fearful just like The First Order while at the same time having new insignias to show that they are a new force to be fearful and aware of, while from time to time, using old organization insignias to remind themselves where they had evolved from.
I wonder if that group from the show gave the creators a little inspiration for the nazi style look TFO has on The Force Awakens
Yes… so much yes!
Abrams is nailing it 🙂 Just a few phrases give me the chills.
Reminds me of Hydra. Oops.
Finally this confirms what I’ve been telling people ever since the name “Knights of Ren” came out. Kylo Ren is not a Sith. And Snoke likely isn’t one either as is implied by JJ. People need to realize that the Dark Side of the Force is more than just Sith. If you really break down what the Sith really were….they were pretty one-dimensional. How is the Sith even still interesting as a concept to people? I think what JJ and Kasdan are doing with TFA is very smart and forward-thinking. If you want to propel the story in fun directions, you can’t keep using the same old tired factions and baddies!
I always wondered wht Qui-Gon was so sure Maul was a Sith after meeting him in that first duel in the desert. He said his only conclusion that he was a Sith lord.
So, We are NOT Siths, but we’re the knights of ren.. WE ARE NOT SITHS, BELIEVE IN US… the red saber, the dark side of the force and the master/apprentice relationship looks a lot like it.. but NO.. WE AREN’T SITHS…
Just like Germans in Argentina…
We aren’t nazis, we are happy germans…
I had family in Argentina for a while….my family is German, and happy (though important to note: my family had a rather distinct anti-Nationalist socialist outlook for generations)
nah I’m not digging at you there 🙂 I see the (hopefully) reference to the interview with the mentioned argentina thing 😛 just thought it a bit loose an interpretation of yours
I’m from argentina, it’s funny that americans think argentina has nazi hiding, when you had the whole apollo project construct by werner von brown … only one nazy guy was found in argentina hiding the rest is just the german comunity who emigrate way before the nazi party even existed.
Personally I think the storyline will be more interesting if Snoke is not Plagueis. The First Order and The Knights of Ren is enough for me. Do believe that Rey’s staff is a Sith relic that somehow came into her possession and that Kylo Ren has been dispatched to retrieve it.
Guess the first order of Thursday is to track down a copy of Empire magazine.
So, Vader’s a martyr to the darkside aligned FO and KoR huh? Wait til these chumps find out Vader betrayed them and was redeemed at the end.
Well maybe that’s why everyone wants to find Luke. Not only is he Vader’s blood. He is the only one who knows what happened to the sith. Most people probably assume Luke killed his father and palpatine
Kylo Ren never match for the power of Jedi. He wants to become Vader, but cant. I suppose Knights of Ren is weaker than Sith and True enemy will be Benicio Deltoro
character in episode 8
They were probably powerful enough to wipe out Luke’s Jedi academy.
It’s a trap !
RT, @ForceCult: Snoke and his staff. plagueis vibes for sure.
http://twitter.com/ForceCult/status/632314760206282752/photo/1
SPOILER ALERT.
Kylo Ren is Lukes and Leias half brother.
So, based on JJ’s words we can assume that Kylo Ren and Snoke see Vader as a martyr of the darkside, but when he died at the end of ROTJ he was no longer an agent of the darkside; he redeemed himself by saving Luke and told him “you were right about me”. That being said, why would these two new villains admire him for killing Sidious? If anything, the emperor would be seen as the martyr, or so I would think. I’m sure it will all be explained in the ST.
These guys may npt know what happened in the death star. It could be a great scene when Luke reveals Kylo what it really happened.
Luke: you don’t know what really happened to Vader.
Kylo: I know enough. I know you killed him.
Luke: No…HE WAS MY FATHER.
It’s like poetry, it rhymes.
I hope he is Plagueis. Sadly, i don’t think Abrams and Kasdan are that clever though.
I think they are clever, which is why he won’t be Plagueis. It is too obvious and too close to what Abrams did with Khan.
I had always assumed the Empire would have set up some sort of ratline system similar to that of the Nazis after WW2!
It’s Snoke and mirrors people.
Ren isn’t a Sith, but marches around with an archaic light saber, and in the second trailer utilizes a ‘force push’?
We know Ren is a treasure hunter, and I speculate that possibly our Cyborg friend begins feeding him tips (planted by Snoke)… Think of Indiana Jones looking for Hitlers true remains based off of good information from former SS members, etc. But he finds something much deeper and darker.
I suppose Ren could be possessed somehow… Or, he’s already a force user, perhaps related/linked to the Solo family.
I do think Snoke eventually is revealed as DP, but as others have suggested, probably mid-late Episode 8.
We know DP had great foresight. As others have mentioned, he could see things to keep people alive, but “couldn’t save himself” … Really? A Sith THAT powerful, killed his in his sleep? I think not.
I’m going to propose that Palpatine KNEW DP was alive. In fact, he became close to the Jedi to ‘cloud’ the Jedi Council. Often, Master Yoda mentions that “hard to see, these things are” because the Dark Side clouded everything. Maul was an attack dog, sent to reveal the Sith, give Jedi something to focus on. DP, Palpatine, didn’t care if he died.
Knights of Ren, the new Empire, etc; will believe Vader was a Martry, because he was…. Created by DP, to be the iron fist, weaken the light side of the force, only to sacrifice him for his greatest attack on the Galaxy ever known….
The Empire’s unfinished vision… Something the Sith could never do. Truly, without opposition, rule the galaxy.
DP to destroy the light side of the force, making himself the most powerful creature to ever live. Perhaps, making such strides as the original Sith Emperor that lived for an unknown amount of time…. Fun to think about.
He doesn’t need to be Sith to use a force push. Nor does he need to be one to use a red saber. Dark Side doesn’t = Sith.
Yes, because random other ‘non-Jedi/Sith’ go around wielding Light Sabers in the SW galaxy? No…. The red crystal, is obviously symbolic. Not to mention, that the red crystals were fabricated; and were linked through the force to make red sabers by the Sith.
One thing that everyone has mentioned since the original trailer, is that the blade when it’s ignited, how it looks, etc; appears ancient. So, if it’s an ‘ancient’ saber, made with red fabricated crystals, and as per Wookipedia, it was Sith that understood how utilize those as weapons, we can speculate that at LEAST the blade itself, is that of an ancient Sith Lord. If most people have speculated, Ren is a grave robber, treasure hunter, and he’s come across this weapon, this mask, etc… And he’s NOT a Sith (which makes sense), HOW did he discover this, and why is he now working for Snoke?
Of course the Sith, perhaps the most danger Sith Lord of all time, is behind this…
Otherwise, this is Cowboys and Indians, minus Indians. (ala Cowboys and Aliens… Yuck)
Why is he wearing a mask?
Who knows? From leaked photos prior, some say there’s images of him dressed like a pilot of some sort, perhaps he discovers an ancient tomb? Perhaps it’s the spirit/force that steals Ren’s body?
Regardless, if he’s NOT a Sith… Yet he’s going around with an ancient crimson blade, masked and leading “Knights” of the Empire… Restoring a vision by Palpatine and Vader, which were what? Sith.
I believe Ren isn’t a Sith, as JJ says. I believe he’s taking commands from Snoke. But this whole “Order” has zero images of Snoke… He IS a Sith Lord. There’s no doubt. And I think the most logical selection, is DP.
The saber isn’t ancient. Abrams confirmed in the EW article that Kylo made it himself and that’s why it is “ragged.”
Who says only Jedi and Sith can use sabers? And I never said he was a “random” Force user. I believe the Knights of Ren are possibly a third Force philosophy that grew out of the Jedi and Sith. I think they may see themselves as the middle road (the Dark Side… and the Light), fulfilling what they see as Vader’s destiny, to bring balance to the Force and peace to the Galaxy by destroying Jedi and Sith. Of course they are just as evil as the Sith.
Keep in mind, that the Night Sisters, were a whole planet of “Dark Side” users; and were wiped out by Count Dooku, nor did they utilize the Dark Side with force like attacks, nor wielded such weapons.
Exactly. It’s all speculation for me, but if DP was REALLY that powerful, to see the future, etc. Would he not have saw, inevitably that Anakin would turn back? Perhaps DP faked his death, sacrificed Palpatine? We keep hearing about this ‘super weapon’ …. And JJ loves to link history, current events, etc; as did Lucas. This weapon is a ‘weapon of mass destruction’ … Then I recall the quote that it wasn’t really the ‘weapons’ that were the WMD’s, but those willing to use them…
But I agree, this “threat” has to be a threat to the Light Side of the force… Something to push the boundaries even further. I think the Knights of Ren, the Empire, this new Order, is smoke and mirrors for the true Sith Lord.
Plagueis = Snoke
W. Disney = Hitler
Porkins = Churchill

If the Knights Of Ren are some kind of terror splinter group mislead by some false belief that would indeed reflect the times we live in
quite good. After all islamistic terror was invented by the CIA.
Your delusional. Its called religious fanatasizm. Or are you claiming that doesnt exist? Tell you what, go to Syria and proclaim yourself an American, or better yet a Christian, then come back here and tell us all about how the CIA “invented” radical Islam.
I think I’ve finally reached my ‘information acceptance threshold’ – the stuff coming out now is starting to give to much actual facts about the movie rather than just speculation. I think it’s time to step away from the Internet for the next 4 months – so hard!
So he’s not a Sith.. He uses the Dark Side.. He belongs to a group called the Knights of Ren..
So are you saying he’s some sort of Dark Knight?
SS Snoke is obviously a trandoshan in a mech suit with laser sword fingers, stop with the whole Plagueis thing…
Great thing then, that one of Cylo-#27’s pets killed it already.
Still scratching my head about why Vader didn’t just force choke those fools, but meh… whatever.
“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams reveals.”
WOW, just wow. Sourcing the post-ROTJ story on the post-WW2 Nazi survival story (and actual reality), is the single most brilliant subtext they could come up with! No sarcasm here.
Darth Serkis Damask…
One time student of Tenebrous, former president of the IBC, murdered teacher of Sidious, resurrected Lord of the Knights of Ren, Massster of Kylo Solo.
Who needs a lightsaber when you can have a magic force stick… THAT is where THIS is headed.
did not say snoke was really Wilfred Brimley
Great original idea- a scary masked dude with a red lightsaber who answers to a still more powerful Sith Lord..
Darth Plagueis will not be in this movie or this trilogy. The fact that one of the writers doesn’t even know who he is should give you a clue. And yes JJ was covering for Kasden by saying he was joking. Kasden had no clue, and neither did Ridley in a recent interview.
He didn’t know DP, just like you don’t know it’s Kasdan… Snoke and Mirrors.
Name one time that the word “SITH” appears in the original trilogy. NOT in George Lucas notes, not in a script or draft, but in the actual original STAR WARS movies. Name one time!
…….it doesn’t. Darth Vader and the emperor use the dark side of the force. The whole sith thing, midichlorians and everything else made up for the prequels are stupid and don’t work. I called this months ago. There will be NO MENTION of the word sith, or any of the other stupid crap that was in the prequels. Get used to it. Somehow, the whole world loved and continues to love the original star wars movies without SITH’S and midichlorians, and knowing every detail about how the force works. The original trilogy is what matters, and thats what JJ is about. Boom. I love this.
I think the original trilogy did just fine without a “sith lord” or any mention of the stupid word “SITH” I can hear the millions of idiots lisping out that dumb word as I type this out.
Darth Vader and the emperor were just bad ass evil dark side users. I’ve always hated the whole sith thing, and everything that they did in the prequels. Thank God JJ is doing this movie. I knew he would throw all of that shit in the garbage and get back to the original trilogy.
That’s an obvious answer. Up until the Prequel Trilogy, the Sith had been extinct for how long? Thus, that information was kept to the Jedi. Even after the death of Qui-Gon, it’s simple whispers. Think of Maul at the end of Episode I, standing in the doorway. The look on the Queen’s face. “We’ll handle this” … The Jedi are not going to go around fanning the flames, creating panic, emotion, etc. It’s completely adjacent to Jedi teachings.
If you’ve read the Tarkin novel (which is Canon), Tarkin speculates as to who Vader is, and he guesses Anakin. Tarkin, despite his rank, is uncertain if Palpatine too is a Sith Lord.
It’s a name, title, philosophy, nobody wants to bring up, or believe could still exist anymore.
The Sith are part of the Star Wars universe, get over it.You can’t just throw away parts of the story because you don’t like them.
Sure you can. Wait, well not you. But JJ Abrams can, because Star Wars is his now, and its his job to sell it to the newer generation of all style no substance viewers.
I’m just wondering when they’ll reveal they also renamed the Force, and its just called Totes Power.
Knights of Ren sounds like they spent all of 5 minutes coming up with every name in the new movie. Poe Dameron is named for one of the Assistant Producers.
Your right ol JJ did it to Star Trek, and that’s my fear.
As much as I’m not a PT fan… there is a major correction to make. The phrase sith was never used in the OT… but it was a canonical phrase used in the 1980’s during the OT production… I believe perhaps there were toys that said something like “sith lord”. It definitely did not originate with the Prequels.
It doesn’t matter. It was never said in any of the original trilogy. EVER. Sith was never known until the prequels, by most star wars fans. Its crap, and its stupid, and JJ is right to do away with it. The original movies turned out just fine without luke, obi wan, and yoda blathering on about “The Sith” and how many midichlorians they have.
Vader has always been a Dark Lord of the Sith, even if ANH didn’t come out and say it.
We only know the Ewok’s are called Ewoks because of the merchandising.
Throwing out or ret-conning all of the lore will make the new film a joke and set a terrible precedent going forward suggesting any of the new movies can just throw away anything they don’t like.
JJ did a terrible job rebranding Trek, and I’m worried he’ll do the same to Star Wars. I should say I feel like he’s possibly at the bottom of my list of directors to do Star Wars. He makes LCD pulp for the masses.
The ewoks were one of the worst parts of the original trilogy, in the weakest movie of the original trilogy. It doesn’t change the fact that most people didn’t know what a “sith” was until the prequels came out. We didn’t need to know it. Vader was evil and scary. The emperor was evil. They were the dark side. I can’t stand the word sith. It was a horrible idea, and it was left out of the original trilogy for a reason. It doesn’t work. JJ is perfect for this, who would be better? GUillermo Del Toro?
I can’t believe anyone would be upset that he is trying to get back to the original trilogy themes, and get as far away from the prequel nonsense as possible. JJ is just like the overwhelming majority of star wars fans, he hates the prequels and everything about them. Total disaster and disappointment they were. Throw prequel ideas in garbage he must.
I’d just like to point out all the focus there is on Rey’s staff … which is uncannily likened to Plagueis’s.
That is all. xD
Excuse me for a minute, but I’m a SW film fan only. I’m getting into the Clone Wars just now (minus those insufferable Jar Jar Cocks Up EverythingAnd Still Redeems Himself episodes)… but besides that I’ve ventured very little into past or present expanded Universe stuff.
I thought Plagueis was only ever mentioned in Episode 3 by Palpatine, who sounded like the guy who killed him and took his powers…? Is that ALL we know about him? If so why are people that fussed about Plagueis being the big baddie in these new films. While for sure it would be nice to tie them all the way back, equally so I don’t see the need to do so, if they can come up with something different and better for the new films.
He seems like a very vague character that you could presume really was dispatched by his apprentice Palpatine, and Palpatine is of course dispatched himself now, so it’s an older story that has no connection to what is happening in the new trilogy… Why the need for it to be Plagueis?
I think for most, the DP conclusion is a pretty easy jump. Through Palpatine, we are given this slight hint at the fact that he manipulated midichlorians to create Anakin.
That he was so powerful, he could see the future, and use the force to stop people from dying.
Palpatine suggests he could “save others, but couldn’t save himself” and reflects upon the fact that he killed DP in his sleep.
How is Anakin pushed to the brink of the dark side? Visions, while he slept…
Palpatine also suggests DP was trying to unlock the key to immortality.
The first Novel to be released as Canon? Tarkin, written by the same Author that wrote Star Wars: “Darth Plagueis”
All speculation, but why I think some of us, believe it could be true.
“Snoke’s look actually came about from an encounter I had with George Miller a couple of years ago. He said ‘If you’re going to have someone top the Emperor [his favorite character] you gotta go really out there.’ He was sort of suggesting something along the lines of Immortan [the grotesque, yet fascinating villain in Mad Max] So we came up with this really unique look that wouldn’t have quite worked prosthetically. And that’s when we decided we needed a really strong actor to portray this guy [Serkis.]”
And Kylo Ren, the Stormtroopers and others are pretty cool, but in a way, Snoke is the most vital character, and probably why they haven’t revealed him yet. Regardless of all the hype, there still has to be a mind behind it all, a master manipulator, a foundation for the Order’s existence.
What’s this quote from?
Very cool… I loved Immortan.
I’m not sure why people want Plagueis to be the villain in TFA… he looks stupid. We need something a lot creepier than that like what Miller is talking about.
The only thing we know for sure is canon about Plaugeis now are the few lines spoken about him by Palpatine… any previous physical portrayal of him is now Legends material and thus can be declared non-canon at any point if deemed necessary.
Not that it makes it canon, but Lucas did choose the Muun as his species.
We also know the little bits about him that are in Tarkin. For instance, 11-4D is still Plagueis’s canon droid and he believed that “the Force can strike back.”
Oh, he’ll be creepy
Wouldn’t they be looking up to the Emperor not Vader? Vader killed the Emperor seriously hurting the Empire, he wasn’t as well known either. He was also just the Sith Apprentice.
Maybe they know he was the Chosen One and consider the Empire’s unfulfilled goal to be the balancing of the Force i.e. total elimination of the Empire/First Order’s enemies. And if Kylo is an important figure and turns out to be the grandson of Vader, that could also explain a lot of their understanding of his importance.
They could also view Palpatine as a failure and believe Vader should have been the Emperor.
Another possibility is that they know Vader killed Palpatine and was therefore the true Emperor. Which raises the question: do they believe Luke is a traitor that must be eliminated, or do they believe he should be turned to the Dark Side and lead them?
But no one knows that Vader killed the Emperor. Only three guys were in that room.
Andy Serkis is a brilliant actor. I cannot wait to see what he does with this character.
Reading these comments proves my point what i was making… Either we have a trilogy of trilogies as a whole in one saga, or a repeat of story telling in this new trilogy…. many fans want more sith, many fans didnt like the prequel story about Anakin, and others like Jar *cough* Jar binks, etc… if there is no connection with Vader, the emperor, the sith, the Jedi prophecy, then all we getting in this new trilogy is repeats of old stuff we already been through….. example…
Daisy Ridley playing the new Luke Skywalker..
Boyega playing the new Han Solo..
Oscar Issac playing the Lando Calrissian…
Adam Driver playing the Darth Vader/Maul
Andy Sekis playing Darth Sidious
BB-8 playing the new R2D2
The First order playing the Empire
Maz Kanada ( Lupita ) playing the new Yoda
Domnell Gleason playing new Moff Tarkin
do u see my point ?…. if we have nothing in episode 7 that ties in from prequels and originals, then we getting the same stuff all over again except this time mixing the race and sex a bit….. but its all the same… and it will be a total waist of time… just take a look on what JJ did in his second star trek movie in the alternate world… repeat of old crap… Khan ring a bell ?… lol either this movie will be great and connect with the prequles and originals as it should, or this will go down in disaster…..
That is indeed possible given dearth of new designs and visuals we’ve seen. Really what more could they do though? Lucas folded much of the original sequel trilogy story into ROTJ. The only story element left and the one Lucas said originally that the sequel trilogy would be about was Luke passing on what he has learned (re-establishing the Jedi Order). That very well might be the case still but much more then that is needed to make three more good movies.
For the most part it has been clear to me from the moment these movies were announced was that this sequel trilogy is a brand new made up story that really is a sequel story to the closed story of the OT/PT. But hey, it’s more Star Wars so I won’t complain.
Dude…….nobody likes the prequels. NObody. They are complete shit. Nobody likes jar jar. If JJ is smart, he absolutely tries to recreate the original trilogy and make them as close to it as possible. I can’t even sit through any of the prequels. I saw them once and that was enough. Complete shit.
All that matters is the OT, and thats fine.
“Daisy Ridley playing the new Luke Skywalker..
Boyega playing the new Han Solo..
Oscar Issac playing the Lando Calrissian…”
Those are just assumed character roles for the ST. That doesn’t automatically mean their stories will be the same as the OT’s.
Maz, the new Yoda, hah! More like the new Jabba. She a gangster, fool.
Yeah… but a wise gangster who serves drinks and uses Force powers and kyber crystals.
I am curious what they will do with the voice of Kylo Ren when he wears the mask. It has to be processed somehow, just a voice muffled behind a metal plate will sound silly..And I think there went some thought into it, should it be vaderesque etc..
If he truly is like a Vader fan boy like it sounds, he probably has a processed voice of some kind. Would they dare get Jones to do it? He gets his modulated to sound exactly like vader? That would be weird.
Or this guy: http://tinyurl.com/noexln8
Its obvious with the Rebels cartoon and some other hints that there were at least a few Jedi or Jedi in training that survived the Jedi purge. Perhaps Snoke is one of those who survived and turned against the Jedi. Maybe even turned against them before the purge and was part of the separatist movement in someway. Idolized Vader and the Emperor but was afraid to reveal himself. He could have known of the prophecy, could have left the Jedi in search of or was tasked to find the true meaning behind it and that is why he wasn’t part of the purge or seen for quite sometime.
Perhaps, he found something new about it that makes him admire Vader more. Who knows at this point, its all b.s. speculation.
Maybe he hides away for sometime, trains himself and when the Emperor dies starts to make his move. Forming this Knights of Ren and sending Kylo out to track down Vader artifacts or training Kylo to admire Vader so much that he seeks them for himself.
My point is, is that there all kinds of possibilities that don’t necessarily equal Plagueis. People keep resting on that or Revan. There so many other possibilities that they can use to both link the trilogies and offer something new. Without using Plagueis, an ancient sith lord, a resurrection of the emperor or some other rehash of a previous villain.
What I find ironic, is that people are treating this “Darth Plagueis” information, like it’s as one put it “re-hash”. How can someone be ‘re-hashed’ when some of you point out that he’s hardly mentioned? Keep in mind, what we know of Plagueis, is that he was very powerful. The timeline in which Plagueis is supposedly killed, and Episode 7 is merely 50-60 years? This is nothing…
Secondly, so; Palpatine trains as a Sith Lord under DP, then decides to randomly become a Senator? Got close to the Jedi, infect them from within. (PLAGUEis)… Spreading, like the black plague.
Hard to ‘rehash’ something that was never used. Merely, only mentioned.
What if we had a Joker like character as a main Star Wars villain? Because as powerful as the Emperor/Snoke is, he still has to rely upon vast resources [generals, an army, ships, etc.] to get his point across.
I’ve always been “Eh” on Plagueis. If he’s so darn great, where the heck has he been the last 70+ years?
Having him show up now in VII feels kind of forced and a convenient way to tie in all 3 trilogies, which really just sounds like a means to throw a bone at Prequel fans by giving them some acknowledgement in the new films.
All I need to “link trilogies” is that they all take place in the same galaxy within a reasonable amount of time from each other. Sometimes a story just ends and another begins. If they ever made an Episode XX, does it still have to connect to Episodes I-III?
Imperials AND First Order in one movie? Just when I thought I couldnt get any more excited for a movie!! Hot diggity dog let it be true!!
I like these comments from JJ. It keeps in tradition with making parallels between real historical events (ie WW2, Vietnam) and applying it to the Star Wars universe. I think it’s safe to assume the destruction of the second Death Star in ROTJ is parallel to the fall of Berlin during WW2. I hope that’s how the First Order reference it in the Force Awakens. When JJ mentions ‘Nazis in Argentina’, perhaps he’s giving a small nod to the fact Nazis fled Europe via ratline systems. Ratline systems where escape routes used by the Nazis to flee Europe at the end of WW2. These ratlines lead to North Africa, South America (Argentina, Brazil). It would make sense the Empire would have similar escape routes in place in case an event called for it, in this case the destruction of the Death Star. Saving a small amount of soldiers, battleships etc allows the Empire to gradually rebuild a new army over the course of 2/3 decades. Perhaps the ice planet (Starkiller base????) is the culmination of decades of rebuilding… Plus it’s eerily similar to a Nuremberg rally based on the shot from the South Korea trailer.
Artist Drew Struzan whose new Star Wars poster was recently released says that The Force Awakens might be the best entry yet. On ScreenRant.
