J.J. Abrams on Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig’s Rumored Cameo in The Force Awakens
Entertainment Weekly posted yet another exclusive story from the galaxy far, far away. This time they spoke with J.J. Abrams about Simon Pegg’s role in The Force Awakens and tried to find out, will we see Daniel Craig in the movie.
From Entertainment Weekly:
J.J. Abrams on Simon Pegg.
“I will say this in terms of Simon: while he won’t be recognizable in the movie, in all honesty, his role in this – not the performance or the character – but his support and friendship has been massively important and helpful in the process,” Abrams says, shifting from deadpan to sincere. “He was a wonderful partner in crime to kick the story around and ask questions and come up with ideas, and he was an incredibly helpful part of the process for all of us. I’m very grateful.”
“He was a sounding board,” Abrams says. “He would drop by the set because he wanted to, and when he could, he would help… We could talk about things, and he was a perfect combination of incredibly smart screenwriter, fan of the series, critical fan of the series, and friend of mine – but not just blindly supportive. He was an honest, critical friend. And he wasn’t so close to it that he became immune to things. He would come in with fresh eyes and very smart ideas. He’s one of a handful of people along the way that has been really priceless.”
J.J. Abrams on Daniel Craig’s rumored cameo in The Force Awakens.
“I’ve been asked to say nothing by Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” he says.
I doubt there is anyone left who still questions Craig’s cameo in TFA, but who knows, everything is possible.

Still more tomorrow? What’s the deal here?
As a fan of Pegg’s since watching reruns of Spaced on the 13″ tv in our flat’s kitchen while I was in grad school, this really warms my cockles.
Simon Pegg is on my fantasy cross-country road trip.
Pegg’s constant fan boy bitching about the PT made him the guy I am least interested in seeing do anything with LFL. Ever. Resented his appearance in CW, and he’s not welcome here.
Agreed. I like the guy in most of his roles, but his untactful approach to most of his issues in the PT and SEs really showed some of his true colors. So tired of seeing fanboys blindly flock to him.
yes. how dare he have an opinion. showing his true colours that is.
No, how dare he be so voiciferous and petty in his constant bitching, then suck up for a SW role. You don’t get to play the “George Lucas is an ass-raping childhood molestor!” whiny fanboy bitch game and then suck off JJ for a part in SW. Utterly classless. Thanks for playing though.
When you reach puberty and watch the Phantom Menace again you’ll understand. It will be hard, but you’ll get through it.
Pegg dares to be critical, which is exactly what a director needs.
No one was critical when Lucas shat out the prequels, and here we are, talking about the prequels again. They are like a virus that just won’t go away.
He is entiled to be critical – let him have at it. My problem with him is 1) he critized the PT films for being stupid, WHILE appearing as retahrd-Scotty in some truly awful ST movies 2) The sheer magnitude of vehemence he expressed in his bitchy whining doesn’t really lend itself to “please let me have a cameo!” – it would be like Serafinowitz begging for a role in the new films – you can’t repeatedly, publically slag the whole thing off and then beg for favors.
Fucktards still don’t understand the division between PT fans and OT fans. The joke’s on you. Stop crying and bitching, do you want people who suck up everything with a Star Wars label on it to aid in the creation of these films? Fucking twats, just gotta accept that some people are more straight-forward about it. I see you bitching about him because he has evidently been spreading his opinion about the PT, while other people working on TFA might’ve had the exact same thoughts but have kept it to themselves for the longest time.
The fact that he gets Prequel fanbois panties in such a twist makes me like him that much more.
Its the way he criticises. He could show more civility. I, personally could care less what Pegg thinks.
Oh, as a side note, good luck with Trek 3 with Pegg penning the script.
When all of OT fans are dead then we can have some sense.
Yes! i will out live you all.
Spot on.
Wow, so you really went full on fan boy doosh-bag, did you? Intersting choice, and well, I’ve got to say, that settles it – I’m for SURE going to take you seriously now chum.
Yes indeed. All of these PT boys….. When they hit their 30’s they are going to feel like jackasses for actually liking and defending 3 of the most horrible movies ever made….you know how kids are. You cant tell them anything. They know it all. Butit makes for an awesome I TOLD YOU SO moment! One of these days it will hit them like…..hmmmm . Anakin created a protocol droid to help his mom around the house. Ummm help her do what? Hes a protocol droid!!!!!!! His arms dont even bend!!! Wtf is he going to help her do?lmaothen it will spark interest in questioning everything else. Then they will finally realize…..”wow…i have been a complete moron for 20 years……”
I’m 68.
I mean 78.
No, make that….
“Utterly classless.”
That’s a pretty odd complaint to make, following your Pegg-Abrams blowjob comment.
if he was sucking up for a role in a George Lucas SW film you might have a point. thank you for playing also.
JJ is the suck up, he want’s to impress….no be Spielberg and George Lucas rolled into one, and in his tiny mind he thinks that he probably is.
What you call ‘bitching’ others would call honesty. People have every right to express their dislike of the PT, just as others have a right to express love for the PT. Whinging about people you disagree with is pointless. Why not try having a discussion that doesn’t resort to petty insults.
so you people watched the PT right?
if you actually love and respect the OT you will realise what an utter butt fuck the saga got. The whole PT is unwatchable CGI ramped turd that is complimented with a script written by an utter balloon.
A Star Wars film made by the fans… I think we are in for a treat!
Because all of those SW fanfilms were so good.
It’s more about embracing what fans love about the films. Lucas only ever saw one perspective and since his was the only exercised in the scripts of the Prequels. This movie has been a labor of love and should be acknowledged as such.
Luckily this movie won’t be completely made by the fans. Seriously, if fans were in complete charge of the ST we’d get some really boring movies.
(pfft, a “love” of cash, maybe) Seriously though, my major concern is that the fan we’re talking about in this case is JJ Abrams. The guy has a CV full of projects which ape the style of his heroes without understanding WHY their films work. He makes decent looking films but has demonstrated no ability to connect with material on any kind of real emotional level. I’m sure it will be technically accomplished, but my worry is that JJ Wars is going to be a fan film made by a guy who doesn’t understand monomyth or anthropology the way Lucas does, and is going to ultimately be a good looking but hollow experience.
Someone never saw Super 8.
Isn’t that the case with any director they could have chosen though?
Does the difference between a Star Wars film being just a fan film versus not being a fan film have to be represented solely by the fact that George Lucas is directly involved or not?
I mean, by your opinion and stance on this subject that seems to be the only reason why this new ST is not a true Star Wars film.
I don’t see it in that way at all, everyone working on these new films are pretty much fans of the entire series and more specifically the OT.
George Lucas had his big breakthrough with the OT and had raised one of the largest followings of a fictional universe the world has ever seen. He blew that all away when he made the prequels and they didn’t live up to the expectations or quality of the first three movies. Well, mostly Ep. 1 and 2 didn’t live up to them. Even George himself admits on the behind the scenes footage of Episode 1 that he might have made a mistake and that his vision of Episode 1 didn’t turn out like he truly wanted.
Do you truly want George who has kind of lost his vision to be the man behind the wheel of this new trilogy?
I for one, would love to see what fans of the series could come up with given a big budget. Them being fans of it is not a bad thing imo. It’s better than if they weren’t fans at all.
All this story needs now is a 20th anniversary special of Spaced, with Tim bitching about the writing in the new Star Wars and Star Trek movies.
Imagine just being able to drop in on your mate while he make a Star Wars film like it’s nothing…jammy bugger.
I’m going to say something weird here. In the second trailer, the trooper marching Poe to his cell just moves like Daniel Craig. I’m maybe imagining it, but go look.
That’s Finn!
I don’t believe Daniel Craig is (in a cameo roll) in TFA, it’s just a joke by Simon Pegg…
Sorry, meant the behind the scenes footage!
Isn’t Craig a bit short for a stormtrooper?
Mr Craig is not short for a Stormtrooper, sir! He is just ugly!
JJ used Pegg as a “sounding board”? Ugh! This fool is nothing but a no-talent hack who sucks as a director and as an actor (and his type of humor isn’t very funny either).
I can just imagine some of the lame fan-fiction-laced ideas he gave to JJ and if there are indeed any off-putting details in TFA when I go watch it in December, the 1st person I’m going to blame is this dude.
Are you the same one who hated on Simon Pegg because he spoke the truth about the prequels?
This guy is why I voted NO for keeping anonymous as a name option.
Why? Simply because you disagree with his opinion?
1. I couldn’t care less about what his opinions on the PT are (which are just that, opinions, not truths as what he thinks are a matter of subjectivity (and I hate when people try to pass off their opinion as facts/truths – as they clearly are opinions – and try to force them into others)). And please, let’s not turn this conversation into a PT vs. OT thing because my post isn’t meant to invoke that arena (let’s just focus on Pegg here outside of his SW opinions).
2. I’m hating on Pegg because he’s a talented hack. I know his humor is British-based (and other attributes about him) but still, I can’t find his work tasteful (and some of it is because of his background). I know it sounds like I despise British folks, I really don’t, but there is something about this guy that makes me think that he’s a fraud in the entertainment industry (and him being British is one thing; it’s like he’s over-exaggerating his British card in his work because he feels like it comes off as his secret weapon in being successful).
If we were on the Actor’s Studio forum, you might be able to convince us. But the vitriolic tone suggests you probably just don’t like what he said about a certain trilogy of films.
There are some truths in the universe (gravity, conservation of energy) and the fact that the Prequels sucked is one of them.
Here’s another truth CG is better than practical.
Without CG practical effects will never come to life, just sit there and wave floppy arms around….static.
No, but I am. K, first thing and as an aside sweetie, ‘truth’ may be a titch hard to judge when discussing any artistic endevour. I’ve however got no problem with him saying he didn’t like the films, hell, let him rip ’em to pieces if it gets his rocks off. Pleasnty of people have, and far be it for me to say they’re not entitled to their say. The real problem I have is that Pegg wants to have it both ways – he wants to slag the films, slag Lucas, slag Lucasfilm (while gleefully participating in the mind-numbingly stupid shitfest that was ST:ID it must be said)….oh, and please please please could I have a cameo in the new film? The proper response to that is not ‘Say, uncritical nerds love you, right? Sure thing, Simon!’, it’s ‘Nope, go fuck yourself Pegg.’ Add to that what a complete asshat Pegg has shown himself to be on Twitter, and seriously, fuck this guy.
“Add to that what a complete asshat Pegg has shown himself to be on Twitter”
And now *you* are being one on SW7news, so please refrain from ever being involved with these films in any way, now. Thanks.
87% on rotten tomatoes is not a shit show. Star Trek fanboys need to stop being so butt hurt that JJ injected some coolness and fun into a tired franchise…
JJ injected nothing, he lobotomised the franchise, as Spock would say “Most illogical”
The fact that a PT fan is calling ST:ID a ‘shitfest’ is really funny to me. I’m not a big fan of that film but I had a good belly laugh reading that.
Wow, just wow. It’s no mystery why some fans dog on Pegg; and it most definitely has nothing to do with his directing/acting abilities.
Sorry I gotta disagree. I like the guy in most of his roles, however they are fairly one-dimensional.
Unfortunately his completely untactful approach to most of his issues in the PT and SEs really showed some of his true colors.
Additionally, when confronted about changes in other franchises he was involved in, he brushes fans off like they where wrong to even question the changes to the franchise they admire. But make changes to the films and stories he loved in his youth… sacrilege!
So tired of seeing fanboys blindly flock to him.
Whatever makes you fell better.
Gravity.
Wow! You just proved my point. It’s funny how freudian slips can happen even in typing.
good…..goooooood… I can feel your hatred!
& I’m loving it!
The drama inside the fanbase may be as compelling as the film itself. Will one fansbase find redemption, while the other becomes what they now despise? Oh, the irony that could await us come Dec. 18.
Just think for a minute, the Star Wars fan base is split in two at the moment, that’s bad enough, after JJ’s movie opens it’ going to be split three ways….will the fans destroy one another.
It’ more complicated than any plot JJ can come up with.
I hope Pegg’s character gets killed off in TFA and the audience sees it happening on-screen.
This is petty.
You sound like a complete dick!
It’s clobberin time.
I’m sure you’re much more qualified. Man, why didn’t J.J. ever call you for advice?
He called me once, I was the one who told him that to have lens flares was stupid as there wasn’t supposed to be any one on the bridge with a camera.
You sound jealous.
I feel like seeing Craig would take me out of the movie.
^ Too many Star Wars fans are weak like this. I see famous actors all the time in movies. Doesn’t take me out of the experience.
if craig is in the movie, his role will be just like Pegg’s, we won’t see his face and will probably hear some kind of altered voice.
Dear God. The chance that this movie won’t turn out to be stupid unsophisticated garbage has just dropped dramatically.
Simon Pegg becomes the PT fan’s JarJar Binks. This is starting to become really entertaining.
I want an anthology film about spies now suddenly. That would be incredible.
You know…I actually love most of Simon Pegg’s work. I wish he had a more gracious sense of humor when it came to his opinions of the Prequels, because I actually really love the PT. All of this negativity made me leave the Universe for a good long while. It was not until I clicked play on Netflix when I saw the Clone Wars series available to stream that I came back from the Dark Side of Not Caring about Star Wars. I also wish the brain trust at LFL and Disney didn’t double down on this “Practical Effects” marketing points…I personally don’t care if there isn’t a single frame of CGI or if PIXAR came in and roto-scoped the whole thing. I want mythology, romance, and high adventure. I want to love these new movies, and share them with my new born son the way my Dad VHS taped ANH and ESB off Showtime and HBO for me (my first memory is going to see ROTJ in the theater). I also hope this new chapter seeks to inspire a new generation of storytellers and film-makers. My personal opinion is that they are telling the next generation that they need $250 million to build massive sets, miles of REAL film, and a huge corporation backing them to make magic…that’s kind of what Lucas, Coppola, Scorsese, and the Film School generation fought against.
Can we please have a post with Simon Pegg news every day? The PT fan rage is so entertaining. They don’t realize it but they are slowly becoming ‘fan boys’ for a new generation.
Self inflicted pay back is a bitch !
Let’s see … Craig has one more Bond film to do, and then…? Wouldn’t be surprised if he has a relatively major role in Episode IX, similar to how Piett grew from nobody to Admiral.
I actually like that idea. Craig has the evil-Imperial Officer look all about him.
Look whether you agree with or don’t agree with Pegg on his critique of the PT, he obviously has a love for OT and that’s works for me. I personally ride the fence when it comes to PT, it has what I believe a good story arc, but I think the execution was poorly done. For me that’s why the Clone Wars series made me fall in love with Star Wars all over again. The story was great and executed perfectly. It’s was Lucas letting his people do what they do best, I just was he had let more people have input in the PT. So having a guy like Pegg who doesn’t gush about everything could be a good thing moving foward.
I bet that constable guy is the role Craig is playing. Just check out the resemblance.
