Carrie-Ann Moss, Leslye Headland and Amandla Stenberg Talk ‘The Acolyte’ in New BTS Teaser

The latest teaser for The Acolyte takes us behind the scenes for snippets of interviews with cast and crew, including Carrie-Ann Moss, Amandla Stenberg, showrunner Leslye Headland and Dave Filoni (who didn’t work on the series but presumably had oversight of it in his role).

We’ve collected some screenshots from the video throughout this article for those who can’t watch immediately.

The video opens with Carrie-Ann Moss on set admitting that “It’s pretty incredible to be a Jedi”, with a smile on her face, with her later adding that “Training for the fights is pretty special” while she practices with a lightsaber in rehearsal.

Leslye Headland mentions again that the series leans heavy on action and is set in a time well before the the Skywalker Saga.

The Acolyte is very much an action-packed mystery in the world of Star Wars.

Our show takes place during a time period before George Lucas’ prequels.

I was very interested in pushing in the direction of martial arts films.

Amandla Stenberg expressed her excitement (and maybe strongly hinted at a spoiler, but it’s pretty clear which Jedi will be the first to die from the promotional material) that the first person she’d get to fight was Carrie-Ann Moss, who of course is famous for incredible martial arts work in The Matrix franchise. There’s some cool behind the scenes footage of Amandla practicing her fight choreography while she speaks.

When I heard that the first person I’d fight was Carrie-Ann Moss, I had a heart attack.

I’m so excited for fans to see the show.

Leslye, Carrie-Ann and Amandla all speak about the character of Mae and how Amandla’s a good fit for the role. Headland expresses that “I was very lucky to have Amandla as Mae”, while Amandla describes her as “a mysterious figure on a path for revenge” and Carrie-Ann states that “you can see just how dedicated she is.”

Manny Jacinto, who plays the shady Qimir, tells us to expect twists in the story while Lee Jung-jae expressed his delight at being involved and Dafne Keen showed her excitement to wield a lightsaber.

Dave Filoni also states that showrunner Leslye Headland will take us on an adventure, which perhaps Disney is hoping will come across as a seal of approval from the man who famously “gets” Star Wars.

In The Acolyte, Leslye takes you on an adventure that lets you inside what she loves about Star Wars.

The Acolyte arrives on Disney Plus on June 4, less than two weeks away.
