‘Tales of the Empire’ Animated ‘Star Wars’ Series of Shorts Announced for May the Fourth

Surprise! Lucasfilm announced that they’ve been working in secret on a new six-episode animated series titled Tales of the Empire that will start streaming on Disney Plus on May the Fourth, and they’ve done so in a big way.

In addition to the announcement and the first-ever details provided for it, they also dropped a teaser trailer and an official poster. Check them out below:

The Disney Plus press release describes it as the “second installment in the Tales series”, which was kicked off with 2022’s Tales of the Jedi featuring shorts centered on Count Dooku and Ahsoka. Dave Filoni is credited as creator and the supervising director. The cast includes Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth), Meredith Salenger (Barriss Offee), Rya Kihlstedt (Lyn aka Fourth Sister), Wing T. Chao (Wing), Lars Mikkelsen (Thrawn), Jason Isaacs (Grand Inquisitor) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous). Dave Filoni, Carrie Beck, and Athena Yvette Portillo are executive producers.

Here is the official synopsis:

“Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” is a six-episode journey into the fearsome Galactic Empire through the eyes of two warriors on divergent paths, set during different eras. After losing everything, young Morgan Elsbeth navigates the expanding Imperial world toward a path of vengeance, while former Jedi Barriss Offee does what she must to survive a rapidly changing galaxy. The choices they make will define their destinies.

Tales of the Jedi was announced last year to be returning for a second season, and Disney Plus’ 2024 calendar posted in December confirmed that is still on track. However, we don’t expect that to premiere until the fall. (Check out Jay’s picks for the characters that could be spotlighted there; it looks like his wish for more Barriss Offee has been granted.)

Stay tuned for more information as it’s revealed.
