A ‘Star Wars’ Mandalorian Videogame Reportedly in Development by Respawn Entertainment

Rumors have been spreading for a while now about the other Star Wars game in development from Respawn Entertainment — supposedly a first person shooter that is a separate story to the developer’s popular Star Wars Jedi franchise — but a new report from Insider Gaming suggests it will be centered around a Mandalorian.

The website reports that the game will allow the player to control a Mandalorian bounty hunter capturing bounties dead or alive for credits during the reign of the Empire at its peak. They also point out that it is currently unclear who the Mandalorian will be at this point, so it’s not guaranteed that the player will be playing as Din Djarin from The Mandalorian Disney Plus series. It could be Boba Fett, Bo-Katan or a completely new Mandalorian character for all we know.

VentureBeat reported in January that the game would still be going ahead after losing its creative director — they later revealed that it was indeed a Star Wars game — and the gameplay would focus on “mobility” and “style”. As Insider Gaming notes, playing a Mandalorian with a jetpack would allow for the verticality and stylish wall-running gameplay that Respawn Entertainment became famous for with their Titanfall and Apex Legends FPS franchises.

It was also reported that the game will not be open world and will have linear levels on a variety of different planets in the Star Wars galaxy, making it a very different game from the likes of Star Wars Jedi and Ubisoft’s upcoming game Star Wars Outlaws.

Supposedly, we’re still a long way from seeing this game though — the release date is unclear but it’s reported that the game is at least a year or two away, if not longer considering the loss of its creative director. It is also unclear if the game will have a multiplayer component, though Respawn have always included multiplayer in their past first person shooter games so it seems likely.

Hopefully we’ll learn more about this Star Wars Mandalorian FPS game as the year goes on.
