New Jedi Order ‘Star Wars’ Film Still Proceeding as Planned With Steven Knight Writing the Script

Another day, another crazy Star Wars film rumor has made its way into the Internet. Reports have been running around all day saying that the upcoming New Jedi Order (w/t) Star Wars film is going through some trouble, with Steven Knight’s latest draft of the script having met some serious pushback from Lucasfilm and the writer considering leaving the project to focus on the forthcoming Peaky Blinders film.

After reaching out to verify the report, sources in the know are telling us that the report is highly inaccurate. Steven Knight is very much attached as the writer and the production is definitely not “delayed indefinitely”, we hear. The story also came out a few days after Daisy Ridley went on a press junket to speak highly of the pitch for the new film, but also a couple of weeks after comments from the director from years ago resurfaced on social media causing a lot of controversy. A week ago, Lucasfilm announced The Mandalorian & Grogu, which the report above took as the cover-up for the alleged shake-up.

Of course, that is not the case. It’s been confirmed that the Jon Favreau-directed film will be coming first, which could inevitably push production on the New Jedi Order film — but that doesn’t necessarily signal an indefinite delay. We reported in October that Knight was expected to turn in his draft at some point before the holidays, but we’re guessing it was also at that time that Lucasfilm decided to shift their film priorities to Favreau’s film, thus (possibly) giving Knight more time to polish his draft. As we were finishing this report, io9 also reported that the film is doing business as usual at Lucasfilm and that they are expecting a new draft soon.

No release date has been set for the film. Once the draft is turned in, and should it get approved, the company could get it into pre-production within the next few months, which is when we’ll start to get more news about it. Star Wars has two theatrical dates reserved in 2026, on May 22 and December 18.
