Katee Sackhoff Discusses Bo-Katan’s Importance to ‘The Mandalorian’, Stresses This Is Still Din Djarin’s Show

In an interview with The Direct, Katee Sackhoff addressed the speculation surrounding Bo-Katan’s centrality to The Mandalorian and whether or not her character would effectively replace Din Djarin as the show’s main character. This is, of course, in response to the amount of screen time Bo-Katan received in season 3 of The Mandalorian. Moreover, now that the storylines in the Mandoverse are slowly starting to converge, it’s certainly not reckless speculation to wonder whether we may continue to see more of her character.

That said, Sackhoff wants to be clear with fans that The Mandalorian is still very much Din Djarin’s show. She commented:

“No. I think there’s always going to be a lot of speculation in this fandom. You know, I think it’s one of the reasons why people love this fandom so much. And they love this universe so much that a lot of times it allows just enough ambiguity for people to interpret things the way that they want to interpret them. And out of that there is the ability to have a lot of misinformation get out, or just, you know, wishful thinking.

And I think in this situation, I think that the story of the Mandalorians and the story of Bo-Katan needed to be told, I don’t believe in any way that it was taking away from Din [Djarin’s] story, nor was that ever the intention. And you know, Pedro and I aren’t in charge of who gets to lead the show [laughs]. This is Din Djarin’s show, it will always be Din Djarin’s show.”

Sackhoff is no stranger to the whims and fancies of the Star Wars fandom having starred as Bo-Katan for years in The Clone Wars and Rebels prior to securing the same role for The Mandalorian. Also, that experience doesn’t even include her time as Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, another show with a committed and enthusiastic fanbase. In my mind, she addressed the rumors (and thinly veiled complaints) like a true professional.

I expect we’ll continue to see more of Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian as the world expands and narratives begin to merge, but not at the expense of replacing Din Djarin as the titular character. If there’s any additional doubt among fans about Din Djarin’s upcoming screen time in season 4, I offer the following comfort–where Grogu goes, so too does Din, and Disney won’t be giving that golden goose much less screen time, that’s for sure.
