‘Ahsoka’: C-3PO Gets His Own Character Poster

The latest episode of Ahsoka yet again featured a cameo from a legacy Star Wars character, and it’s a special one this week. C-3PO was used by Dave Filoni as a way to avoid using Leia in the story — but one that worked. Everyone’s favorite protocol droid interrupted Hera’s Senate hearing/trial for disobeying orders, and identifying himself as a messenger for Senator Leia Organa, explained how Leia had authorized Hera’s mission unbeknownst to Senator Xiono’s vote against the mission on Seatos.

Now, as a character of the show, he gets his own character poster, which you can check out below:

Anthony Daniels returned to voice the character, and posted a message on social media to say “thank you” to the team behind the show and everyone watching:

The tweet also seems to suggest that he wore the suit on the set and did not just record the dialogue in post. But this also brings up an interesting question regarding Daniels’ Star Wars future. Lucasfilm managed to keep his cameo a surprise in the show, but Daniels himself had posted on social media nearly two years ago a photo wearing a performance capture suit teasing another round as C-3PO.

The picture was posted to Instagram in January 2022, a few months before Ahsoka started filming in May, so we can safely assume it wasn’t a day of filming. However, there are two possibilities here. At the time, we had assumed Daniels was working on another project that had been announced by Lucasfilm, an animated special for Disney Plus titled A Droid Story. That title had been announced by Lucasfilm on that investor’s call in December 2020, and nearly three years later, we still have no idea what’s going on with it.

Another possibility is that, since Ahsoka was in pre-production at the time, the team was figuring out how to bring C-3PO to life once again, and they thought about experimenting with a performance capture suit as opposed to the traditional outfit Daniels wore on all ten feature films he was a part of. It’s possible the inevitable Disney Gallery: Ahsoka episode will answer the question for us.

Part Seven of Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney Plus, you can check out my own review here. SWNN Live! will return tonight, at 8pm PT/11pm ET to discuss all things “Dreams and Madness”, as we head into the final week of Ahsoka. Part Eight comes out next Tuesday night, so stay tuned for our review the following morning!
