‘The Empire Strikes Back’ Returning to Historic TCL Chinese Theater With Special Screening

The TCL Chinese Theater, a historic landmark in Los Angeles, will hold a special screening of The Empire Strikes Back on August 30th at 7 p.m. All ticket sales will go towards the Will Rogers Motion Pictures Pioneers Foundation, an organization that provides support and counseling to theater vendors and movie distributors in need.

Tickets are on sale now at $40 per person and will include popcorn, water, or soda, a photo-opp with characters and members from the 501st Legion, and a Funko POP! Star Wars bobblehead giveaway.

The TCL Chinese Theater is not only a cinematic gathering place for movie lovers around the world, but it is also an iconic location for the Star Wars franchise. Over the years, Star Wars has premiered its newest films at the Chinese Theater to large gathering audiences, lining up across the block to go in and see the latest installment.

It is also the location of many iconic photos from 1977 when Star Wars first debuted to the entire world. These memorable photos show just how popular the Star Wars frenzy was back in the summer of 1977. While Star Wars did not have an initially large opening, as more and more crowds started seeing the movie, more and more people gathered in droves outside the venue, and all across the nation. The Chinese Theater would also host premiers for the newer movies (such as The Force Awakens shown below), also having large red-carpet openings there as well. However, it was not the home for the premiere of The Empire Strikes Back, which instead happened at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Located on Hollywood Boulevard, the TCL Chinese Theater opened in 1927. While the theater itself has gone through many restorations since then, the theater now features a custom-designed IMAX system, 932 seats, and one of the largest screens in North America.
