New ‘The High Republic’ Phase 3 Synopses Revealed
With Phase 3 of The High Republic just on the horizon, new preliminary synopses have been published, giving some details about what to expect for two new books coming soon. The two new synopses are for Escape from Valo (written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong), and the other for Defy the Storm (written by Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton).
Phase 2 of The High Republic is wrapping up, with the final story being the last three issues of The High Republic Adventures. Even though those were delayed, they appear to be coming out on June 28. Most of the other stories in Phase 2, however, have already finished, including the books Star Wars: Cataclysm, The Edge of Balance: Precedent, and the one-issue comic Quest of the Jedi.
The first book of Phase 3 will be Eye of Darkness written by George Mann, and will hit book shelves on November 14. Following that, however, will be Escape from Valo, which will release on January 30, 2024. Here is the new synopsis for the middle-grade novel, Escape from Valo, provided below:
Journey to the embattled Occlusion Zone in this action-packed adventure set hundreds of years before the Skywalker saga! It’s a dark and dangerous time for the galaxy in which communication has been rendered nearly impossible in Nihil-controlled space as the nefarious pirates continue to threaten the Republic’s very existence. Join Jedi Padawans — including Ram Jomaram — as they plot their escape from enemy territory.
Hopeful young Padawans will have to work together to overcome their fears in order to survive — and help save the galaxy.
After Escape from Valo, Defy the Storm, written by Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton will release on March 12. Defy the Storm is a young adult novel that will feature a fan-favorite character, Vernestra Rwoh. Vernestra Rwoh is also set to appear in the live-action TV show The Acolyte.
One year after the fall of Starlight Beacon, the galaxy is in chaos. An anarchistic group known as the Nihil has taken over a section of space now known as the Occlusion Zone. Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh and scientist Avon Starros team up in an attempt to find a way through the Nihil Stormwall to save those on the other side.
But what are the Nihil’s real plans? And what of the nameless creatures that can destroy the Jedi Order? The battle has just begun.
Lucasfilm publishing director Michael Siglain has stated previously that Phase 3 releases will spread out more to allow new and old readers to catch up. A list of every Phase 3 publication set to come out was also given at this year’s Star Wars Celebration.
