‘The Bad Batch’ Season 3 Bringing Back Wolffe, Captain Rex, and Fennec Shand

In a brief teaser exclusively shown at Star Wars Celebration in London, fan-favorite characters Wolffe, Captain Rex, and Fennec Shand were confirmed to be appearing in the third and final season of The Bad Batch. While the trailer has not been officially made public, fans at the event reported seeing the three characters, all of whom have previously appeared in Star Wars animation.

Spoilers ahead for The Bad Batch season 2 finale

With season 2 of The Bad Batch ending on a cliffhanger, Omega being captured by Doctor Royce Hemlock, and the unfortunate demise of one of Clone Force 99’s own, things looked bleak in the finale for the titular characters. At The Bad Batch panel, fans received confirmation of a third season which will wrap up the series. The season is set to premiere sometime in 2024. Attendees at the panel also got to see in the trailer The Emperor speaking with Doctor Hemlock about the importance of the secretive Mount Tantiss facility, plus Omega interacting with Crosshair while still being held captive.

Fennec Shand in The Bad Batch

Few details about the three returning animated characters were revealed, as only small glimpses could be found. However, these appearances offer interesting clues and theories as to what may occur in season 3. Captain Rex has been a recurring character within The Bad Batch, appearing in both previous seasons, so his appearance may come as no surprise. But the inclusion of Wolffe is interesting as the last time he appeared in Star Wars was in Rebels, where he was seen alongside Rex and clone commando Gregor. Perhaps the three characters — Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor — may prove instrumental in helping Omega, Crosshair, and the rest of the clones in their Mount Tantiss escape. This may also serve as an opportunity to explore how the three clones got into such an estranged state before they were first seen in Rebels.

Fennec Shand’s appearance may also not come as a surprise considering her part in the first season of The Bad Batch. Shand was contracted by Nala Se to bring in Omega in the first season, but also had run-ins with Cad Bane and Clone Force 99 while doing so. Details are scarce about her story between The Bad Batch and when she first appeared in The Mandalorian, so perhaps the third season of The Bad Batch can help fill out a few more of those details, perhaps in her interactions with Nala Se, the Bad Batch, and Omega.

In the meantime, the internal animation team for Star Wars appears to be busy with the second season of Tales of the Jedi as well. For a full recap of Star Wars Celebration’s The Bad Batch panel, read our breakdown here. Season 3 is set to arrive sometime in 2024.
