‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’ Director Wants To Make a ‘Star Wars Jedi’ Trilogy

It’s probably the least surprising news to come out of the extensive Star Wars Jedi: Survivor coverage from IGN, but in an interview with Ryan McCaffrey on IGN Unfiltered, the game’s director Stig Asmussen admitted that he’d love to make a third game in the Star Wars Jedi series.

IGN believes that a threequel is quite likely, with Asmussen revealing that talks about a third game were happening even when they were still writing Survivor.

We were already talking about the second game. I mean, frankly, we were talking beyond. And these are conversations that, when we’re breaking this story with Lucasfilm, it’s like: ‘Well, where are we going with the second game?’

I always wanted to see this as a trilogy. How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?

We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that. And there’s ideas of what we could do beyond that as well.

He also revealed that a third game in the series would run on Unreal Engine 5 — the latest version of the popular game engine — which seems logical given that Fallen Order and Survivor have both used Unreal Engine 4 (the latter uses a modified, more modern version of it). If the Star Wars Jedi series were to continue on current consoles, then Unreal Engine 5 would make sense to make the game look and run as well as possible on the current-gen hardware.

I think it’s a pretty safe assumption. I’m not going to say it’s going to be easy. I mean, we have a lot of proprietary things that we’ve warped the engine into doing what it does for Jedi right now, and we would have to retool some of that to get it to work on any new engine.

In order for that to happen, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will need to sell well. But that also seems a pretty safe assumption.
