‘Andor’ Nabs Multiple Nominations at WGA and SAG Awards, Including Best Drama Series

Following news that Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow scored a nomination for a DGA Award, the Screen Actors Guild of America has nominated Andor in the category of Best Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series, while the Writers Guild of America has nominated the series for Best Drama Series and Best New Series.

In its SAG category, Andor will be competing against the stunt teams behind The Boys, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, House of the Dragon, and Stranger Things. As far as the WGA Awards go, Andor will go up against Better Call Saul, The Crown, Severance, and Yellowjackets for Best Drama Series, and against Abbott Elementary, Bad Sisters, The Bear, and Severance for Best New Series.

Despite high accolades from the WGA, the Tony Gilroy show is unlikely to come out on top of Apple TV Plus’ Severance, one of 2022’s best-received series. It might benefit from The Crown having lost some steam due to its longevity, plus Better Call Saul typically doesn’t perform well at awards ceremonies, and Yellowjackets has been out of the mainstream conversation for almost a year. Ironically, the series’ most competitive category might be Best New Series, since Abbott Elementary has played extremely well with critics and audiences alike, and The Bear is on a roll lately as far as awards go. Bad Sisters is also a dark horse many were sleeping on, but once again, Severance seems like the frontrunner here.

At the SAG Awards, though, Andor is competing in an arena of pure ensemble series and might suffer from the fact that it’s not as stunt-heavy as series like House of the Dragon or even The Boys. But this is a much harder category to predict at this point.

The second season of Andor is currently shooting in the UK, with the main cast and crew returning. A late 2024 release on Disney Plus is more than likely. The SAG Awards ceremony will take place on February 26, while the WGA Awards will be held on March 5, 2023.
