New ‘Hidden Empire’ Preview Shows Qi’ra Taking on the Emperor

Lucasfilm and Marvel have dropped a preview of the first issue of Hidden Empire, the new Star Wars comics crossover event that will tie together the main Star Wars series, Darth Vader, Doctor Aphra, and Bounty Hunters. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like a tasty one.

The preview shows a confident Qi’ra having a discussion with the Emperor via hologram, right as Crimson Dawn enact the latest step of their plan to destroy the Sith and the Empire. It’s an intriguing conversation, in which Palpatine initially dismisses Qi’ra due to her association with Maul, whom he considered no more than a failed apprentice. But once he senses a disturbance in the Force as Qi’ra’s plan is put into action, he actually seems unnerved by the thought of what Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn might have done.

We discover that Crimson Dawn actually has multiple ships of the same class as The Vermillion, even though it looked like that was the crown jewel of her resources in previous issues. It makes you wonder what else Qi’ra might have up her sleeve. We’ll find out exactly what Qi’ra has done in her attack on the Empire’s Interdictor cruiser and other ships when Hidden Empire releases later this month, on Wednesday, November 16.

The main heroes and villains in this period of Star Wars are not featured in the preview, so it remains to be seen how Luke, Leia, Darth Vader, and Doctor Aphra will be involved in this latest development of the conflict between Crimson Dawn and the Empire. Surely, its ramifications will affect all these characters in different ways.

It remains to be seen if Qi’ra will survive this crossover event, but for now, she seems to have Darth Sidious on the backfoot, which is certainly no mean feat.
