“I’m George Lucas, and I’m here to rescue you!” That’s what we’d imagine what the latest Star Wars Black Series toy featuring The Maker’s likeness would say if he appeared in a Star Wars movie. Lucasfilm and Hasbro have created a new action figure featuring the franchise’s creator in a Stormtrooper disguise to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Lucasfilm.
The official Star Wars website has revealed that George Lucas is getting an action figure in the Black Series line, taking inspiration from the Death Star infiltration sequence from A New Hope. While that movie was released a little over five years after the founding of Lucasfilm on December 10, 1971, it represented the point where George Lucas’s independent film studio really took off. Vickie Stratford, Hasbro’s senior director of product design, had the following to say about the figure’s announcement:
“As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I have both the honor and privilege to bring characters from the franchise to life in product form every single day. When the opportunity came to design the George Lucas figure, we were especially excited for this project. This figure is just one of the many ways we can honor his legacy for years to come and we hope fans cherish it as much as we did!”
The figure comes with a removable helmet and a blaster accessory. Check out the images of the figure in its packaging and in action below:
This is not the first time that George Lucas has received a Star Wars action figure, as Hasbro previously produced a “Jorge Sacul” action figure placing him in the outfit of an X-wing pilot, or the “Baron Papanoida” action figure based on his cameo appearance from Revenge of the Sith as an attendee of the opera that Anakin and Palpatine attend. However, it’s the first time that his likeness has been used for Hasbro’s Black Series line, bringing him into the realm of 6-inch action figures instead of 3.75-inch ones, like the other two mentioned here.
The “George Lucas (in Stormtrooper Disguise)” action figure will be arriving at some point in 2022. Pre-orders for the figure will begin tomorrow on Wednesday, September 29, at 1 PM ET through Amazon. (You can pre-order it here when that link goes live at that time.)
