Empire: New Images and Details for Solo: A Star Wars Story

Empire recently shared a couple of articles previewing their upcoming Solo-centric issue. In the brief articles, we get two new images from the movie and some minor details concerning the film’s main villain and the train heist sequence that we’ve seen in the trailers.

First up, Paul Bettany’s Dryden Vos…

From Empire:

Vos is being touted as Solo’s main villain, a facially-scarred “big-shot” criminal overlord who recruits a crew of reprobates for a heist. The character was originally portrayed by Michael K. Williams back when Phil Lord and Chris Miller were directing, but is now portrayed by Bettany in Ron Howard’s film.

The article in the actual magazine confirms that Dryden Vos is not related to Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, despite the same last name. Just like in the real world, it’s not uncommon in Star Wars for unrelated individuals to share a common name (for ex. – The Alderaanian captain Raymus Antilles of the Tantive IV and the Corellian rebel pilot Wedge Antilles).

In the new image from Empire, you can also clearly see the Mandalorian armor on display in the background. This armor was barely visible in an earlier image of the set (see above), and many had speculated that it could be our first glimpse of Boba Fett in the movie. Now, it is clear from this image that the armor is merely decor displayed by the gangster.

Also, the magazine shared a new image with Han hanging from the Conveyex during the heist. The article confirms that this is the planet Vandor, and the way the full article is written suggests that the whole planet is snowy, leading us to believe that the desert planet is not Vandor as we initially speculated.

From Empire:

The sequence has been teased in the trailers for the latest non-Skywalker entry in the Star Wars universe, and promises a different kind of action to the usual epic battles and lightsaber duels. “Part of the challenge is to come up with new, inventive kinds of action we haven’t seen in Star Wars,” Solo co-writer Jonathan Kasdan told Empire. “We often referenced Heat and Thief as high-end criminals doing serious jobs that involve huns and big hijackings.”

More details will no doubt be revealed in the days ahead as we draw nearer and nearer to the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Check back with us here at Star Wars News Net as we will continue to keep you updated on the latest Solo news.
