Finn, Poe, & Rey Get A Little Spotlight In 15-Second TV Spot

As we’re getting closer to the main event, Star Wars: The Last Jedi amps up its ad campaign. A new 15-second TV spot shows us some new footage of each of the three leads from The Force Awakens, with new lines from Finn and Poe, and emphasizes the movie’s fun factor. There aren’t really any spoilers in this one, so feel free to check it out!

Yet, everyone associated with it says it’s a darker film over all. Or- the tone much more grim compared to the previous film.

No, it is dark and gloomy.

    Awww yeah, we’re getting closer.

What’s with Boyega’s facial expressions though?

He looks a bit sarcastic, or even stoned, there. I remember someone from Trainspotting saying of its filming something like, ‘Hungover? Some of the cast were still drunk…’

He probably still doesn’t know how the force works and said it in the wrong context.

What’s with the constant criticism of everything Boyega does?

No criticisms here my friend. I like the guy. Just my observation that’s all.

I’m sure it’ll come across fine in the film when it has a bit more context.

Sorry if I was rude, I’m constantly seeing people here complaining that Boyega doesn’t fit in this universe and I’m very fed up with it. Thanks for clarifying!

I don’t want to make it a racial thing, but when I people complaining about Boyega’s performance simply because he laughs or shouts too much (as if basically every Star Wars character doesn’t do that), I get a bit suspicious.

It’s almost certainly a racial thing. I’ve seen people compare him to Will Smith and Chris Tucker. Absurd and offensive (also, Will Smith is one of the most charismatic actors on the planet, so…)

A quote from the greatest film of 2016!

If I can offer my opinion without being crucified for it, I think if we’re being honest Boyega thus far in Star Wars has tended to be a bit cheesy, over-the-top, and melodramatic. A couple scenes that immediately come to mind are his speech to Rey about “you looked at me like no one had before”. Felt like a soap opera. And then there’s the scene where he’s chasing after Kylo’s shuttle screaming “REEEEEEEEEYYYYY!” at 150% He probably could’ve taken that down a notch. Of course the dialogue he’s given to work with is partially to blame, but Daisy had plenty of corny dialogue too and never seemed to make me cringe. Not sure if the character of Finn was written to be so “aww shucks” and corny, but I think he came across that way to a lot of people, and maybe that’s why they feel like he doesn’t quite fit in. Hopefully his character can be taken a bit more serious in TLJ, and he can mature and lose some of the goofy awkwardness.

If you’re complaining about Star Wars actors giving over-the-top performances, I really don’t know what to tell you. That’s what this franchise is and what it will always be.

I read it as he feels self-conscious saying the phrase, maybe it feels kind of corny to him? we’ll see soon enough

I’m a bit worried about this too. I could not play, er, Sebastian Coe in a biopic because I ‘run like a girl’. In Black Swan apparently someone else did the trickier ballet moves. Anyway, we’ll see. Colon, hyphen, forward slash.

You don’t think the stunt coordinators spent months and months training Daisy? You don’t think she’s holding the lightsaber exactly as instructed? Oh no some nerdy armchair critic knows much better, based on a few seconds footage. If only you had been on set, you could have shown her how to hold the lightsaber properly. Maybe they could hire you for the next movie as lightsaber wrangler, or lead stunt coordinator?

That’s because Luke was a Marty Sue and knew instinctively how to use it. Rey doesn’t.

“Instinctive” – a word which here means “having been taught by first a Jedi Knight, and then a 900 year old Master”.

Horseshit. First, you are assuming those scenes happen in real time aboard the Falcon. Second, if you’re talking about grip, how long does it take for Obi Wan to say ‘no, dumbass, hold it like this, not like that because you’re going to chop your fool fingers off’? Third, after that brief training session, we don’t see Luke wield a saber again until Empire. Once, clumsily slashing at the wampa, and then again only AFTER he’s spent his time on Dagobah. Fourth, all melee weapons are exactly the same, especially if you’re moving from a clubbing weapon to a slashing
and stabbing one, and proficiency with a big metal stick automatically equals proficiency with any other kind of weapon, particularly a weird esoteric one with no weight in the blade.

So how long was Han in the cockpit between jumping into hyperspace, with Luke and Obi-Wan still in the cockpit, and walking out exclaiming “told ya’ I’d outrun them”?

An hour? 5 hours? 10 minutes? How long before Luke was able to tap into the Force? Was he waving at that thing for hours, or mere minutes?

…? he didn’t really even use the saber until empire and when he did vader kicked his butt.

also, i’m not critiquing rey or daisy, i just think its an awkward way to hold a blade.

I can’t help but hope Luke references the disturbance in the force he felt with the unleashing of Starkiller Base. Considering how Ben reacted to the Death Star destroying Alderaan, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say 3-4 times the magnitude has had a severe effect on him.

since the whole saga is about the Skywalkers… anakin has no identified father. now i start to think that Snoke is a Skywalker. maybe not in bloodline but as the seeder in another form. anyway if he is the ultimate Skywalker then the story makes more sence. has anuobe thoughts about this?
